Nursing Home Communities in New Britain, CT

"My Grand mother was a resident at this facility she has alzheimers and diabetes. She was just recently admitted to the hospital because her sugar level was crazy high she almost slipped into a diabetic coma cause of this facility. My aunt and myself just went to visit her the day of the incident when we arrived she was slumped in a chair sweating sitting by the nursing station and no one (NURSES OR CNA'S) noticed something was wrong? so who knows how long she's been sitting there. When we arrived we tried to say hi and she wasn't responding so we called the nurse so she could check her sugar levels she did, it was like 800 then we asked was it done in the morning and didnt get an answer. An ambulance came took her to hospital and when she recovered she didn't go back now she is at amberwoods in farmington ct. "

"Jerome Home and Arbor Rose was very nice. It was beautiful actually. I was able to see more of the community environment and looked like they had outdoor places for residents. They had activities going on and the services seemed great. We saw the memory care and the people I met there were very nice. The dining area was very nice, too, and very home-like. It's a very comfortable setting and laid out nicely. The only thing was it's a little bit dated."

"Cassena Care at New Britain is not beautiful, but it certainly seemed to have excellent care. My sister had liked it, and she is doing better than she had with another place. It was excellent and the food was pretty good, not as bland as some places. It's just not as attractive since it's an older nursing home, but it's very clean. The staff seemed more than efficient, kind, and nice."

"Apple Rehab was nice and clean, but it was more expensive. They had a care program that was much more than my mother needed. Also, its surroundings were more suburban and not rural. The staff was very professional, though. "

"We chose Touchpoints at Farmington because it was clean, didn’t smell of urine, and had a 5-star rating. The staff is very good at notifying me about any event or falls or anything of that nature. I don't have any complains about them. My client is eating very well and has gained a weight, so I must say that the food is good. "

"Cedar Mountain Commons was a cheery and friendly place. It was a nice community, but the apartment was too small for my parents. There wasn't much of anything in terms of amenities, although the food was very good. My parents did not take part in any of the social stuff, but there's bingo and card games. From the people serving dinner to the people caring for you, they are fantastic. The facility itself is very clean and very beautiful. "

"My mother moved into Jefferson House. She had been there for three months of rehab. The upkeep is good. The layout is fine. The nurses and CNAs are just wonderful. They're a caring group. My mother, who is fussy, likes the food. They have activities. My mom has been very happy there."

"My grandmother has had numerous visits to this nursing home until she was eventually placed there permanently because she needed constant care. The staff seems genuine and caring, and they seem to work hard to make her comfortable and happy, and make sure she is well fed. They have daily physical therapy in groups, private meetings with the physical therapist, and events for entertainment. On her 100th birthday, they had a musician come in and sing a song from every year of her life aged 0-20 and every decade after that, which was thoughtful and a nice touch. The food seems reasonably good and the staff makes sure that she eats well. Overall, I am fairly happy with the facility and staff and it seems like a good place for her. "

"Avery Heights was nothing to look at at all. It's almost like something out of a haunted house or a haunted movie. It's almost like an abandoned military base is the best way I can describe it. I don’t know if it was the time of year and nothing was blooming, but just the scent and feel that I got when I drove up there. Once you get inside though, the apartments are great. The rooms are bigger and the kitchen is a full kitchen where a wall separates the kitchen from the rest of the living room. My mom felt like she could have a full kitchen there with ample counter space. The rooms are bigger and the parking is underneath. My father, who does not use a wheelchair and any assisted device as he should, could just go straight down an elevator rather than going down a long hallway and outdoor to his car. He can go down an elevator and his car will be in a garage underneath, so that's the physical distance he doesn't have to worry about. It's also covered so he doesn't ever have to worry about the elements or him falling on the wet ground because of snow. They also seemed the most accommodating, even to the point where they can adjust pricing. For instance, my parents don't necessarily need someone to come in and clean the apartment once a week, so they'll take it off the price. They're a lot more flexible than most of the other places we've seen, which, I think for my parents and their age, is important. When you're spending over $5,000 a month for rent, that price tag for an 84-year-old is pretty shocking. The facility needs some remodeling though. I think they put all their money into the individual apartments, which I think is an appropriate position. It's also very clean. I think you could call it independent living but you could also age in place there. So, if you needed to move into assisted living, you can still stay in your apartment, unless you need skilled nursing. If you start to need assistance, like someone to come in and give you a bath once a week, you could still stay in your apartment."

"The staff my okay, mostly left people alone with their family when guests where there only popping in to give food, medicine, and to check up. The food wasn't very good but that's something you kinda expect in an assisted living facility. The hospital was very clean and the dietary staff was very good and accommodated my grandmother excellently. Building it self is very nice and is and is in a very nice area next to Goodwin park on the Hartford Wethersfield border. It is a very secure facility, but is nice, not industrial and sterile looking like some look. They have all the activities and amenity that youd expect in a nursing home like haor salon, cafeteria, bingo, and community rooms and such. The people there are mostly elderly and some younger patients in need of physical rehab and such. "
