"Pomperaug Woods was fairly nice. The people there were friendly. The apartments were attractive. There were a lot of activities on the calendar. They have a senior art show every year. The artwork is from seniors over seventy, both from the residents and other seniors from around the state. They didn't have a pool there, but they would pay a membership fee to a local hotel pool for people who wanted to use it. They would also pay golf fees for people who wanted to play golf off their site. We had lunch there and the food was very nice. Lastly, the price is just comparable to the other places we visited. "

"My grandmother is in Water's Edge Center for Health and Rehabilitation. It's very clean, very simple, and everybody seems very kind. She doesn't like the food so much and doesn't participate, but they have physical activities like wellness, and a shuttle to a shopping center."

"My mother is at The Pines at Bristol Center for Health and Rehabilitation. I would give them 100. They are pleasant and very friendly. The room was always clean, the entrance was clean, and the kitchen area was clean. I did not find anything to ponder over. The receptionist was very polite. I have no complaints so far. The lobby was welcoming, and they offer you areas to sit. I observed my mom at suppertime and the food was appetizing from looking at it. She said she liked the food. She doesn't have any complaints. She said they took her for a walk. She was there mainly for rehab. They were very active with her because at times I would call, she's away with physical therapy. She said she enjoys their company and the nurses. I saw a gym area. I think she gets her money's worth. She talks highly of the staff."

"My mother has been living the for three and a half years. I visit her every day. Generally, she recieves good service there. For example, sometimes she is eating when I arrive and she likes the food a great deal. There is a variety of foods available and they tailor the meal to the needs of each patient. The nurses do a good job of assisting those who need help with feeding themselves. The staff has been generally curteous and friendly to me during my visits. I've seen my mother recieve physical therapy here and I was happy to see that they were helping my mother regain some leg strength after a recent hospital stay.If I had to say anything negative abhout the location, it would be that I have observed nurses on occasion not being very responsive to toileting needs and they sometimes take a while to respond to call lights. Recently, they have also been renovating the parking making it difficult for me to visit. "

"My mother is in Maple View Health and Rehabilitation. The location is good. The staff is very friendly and caring. I don't really have anything that I don't like about it. She's only been there for a month. It's very, very clean. They have activity rooms."

"We have had numerous meetings with the director of the facility (Tom) and the staff or "Team" in charge of my mother's "Care". Unfortunately despite the meetings and our voiced complaints the same issues continue. One of our main concerns is my mother is supposed to get her medication at 8:30 AM, very seldom does this happen. She will get her meds as late as 10AM and at times after 11am. Even after pleading with the nurse that our mother is in pain could she please get her the medicine, we were told she needs to wait her turn. The delivery of food has been very inconsistent as well 8:00 Am breakfast not coming until well after 9:00 Am and dinners served at after 7 PM at night. Our mother has to use a bed pan and has been told at times by staff on duty a bed pan is unavailable and that she should just relieve herself in her pants/diaper. She has also been told that she needs to urinate too much and will just have to wait to use the bed pan. This is even after my mother pleaded with staff letting them know that she is taking a lasiix's for the swelling in her extremities, this helps her pass fluids and causes frequent urination. This doesn't mean all the staff there are bad, as there are some very caring individuals, When they those people are not around our mother suffers the consequences. "

"Hamden Health Center was nicely appointed and very clean, and they had outdoor areas where you can go out with your family to sit outside at picnic tables. My mother had physical therapy, she also had her hair cut and styled there. She was just well taken care of. I observed them doing Wii bowling, they had entertainers that come in to entertain, and they had a sing along with a piano player "

"I found the staff at the Arden House to be very kind and caring. My aunt had dementia and became quite difficult to deal with. The staff did a good job meeting her needs. The place itself was fairly clean and well kept. However, with so many residents, and not enough staff, the floor had that "old person smell."There was a good physical therapy department, and a place for residents to get their hair done. The staff scheduled daily activities for residents and everyone's birthday was remembered. Holidays were also celebrated. There was a lovely courtyard where people could sit, they also held events there. The television room had a piano and places for families to gather, it was quite nice. The food was not that good, typical hospital fare. "

"Whitney Center was very nice. I like everything that they do for the people that lived there. I had a meal there and it was very well done. It was like a high class restaurant. Their rooms were like apartments and it had lots of closets and space so people wouldn’t have to condense as much as you would think when you move in there. "

"My dad lived in the Residence at Elim Park. The whole campus is beautiful and everyone who works there is lovely. The healthcare center has dining rooms for meals but also has a central area with restaurants, a market, a large theatre (Nelson Hall!!) and a wellness center with a pool and hot tub. There are a different levels of care from nursing home to independent living apartments. My dad lived in the Residential Care section which is like assisted living/senior housing that accepts Medicaid. He loved all the amenities and got to maintain more independence than he had living alone at home unable to drive. When he got sick he had priority to go to the skilled nursing and short term rehab units which are really highly rated and offered great care."

"Willows Care and Rehabilitation Center was a really good place. The people there were very nice. The place was clean and very bright. The rooms were nice and bright, too. They have a 20-minute turnaround time for the aide to come when the resident pushes the call button, which I think is amazing. They have a different menu every day for the meals. The staff who gave me the tour was great."

"My dad stayed at Shady Knoll Health Care Center. He had Alzheimer's, so we needed a high level of care. They were wonderful. The facility was extremely clean, the staff was very caring. And if there's anything going on, they'd call me. My dad enjoyed the food. They had a lot of community activities, like singing, which was probably top of my dad's list. They also did a lot of memory kinds of things, physical exercises, and he participated to the extent that he could. They also have therapy dogs which was wonderful for people with Alzheimer's. My dad passed last month. "

"The aide staff at Beacon Brook was nice. I had to wait for my meds because they still had to order it from the pharmacy, so it took a while. I needed bed wheels, but there was none, so I was very disappointed. You can only have two showers a week, and I only received one hour of rehab a day. It was so hot in there, and my bed was near the window, so whenever I open my window a smidgen, my roommate would complain about the cold. They were advertising in their brochure that they have Tai Chi, so I was excited because I do Tai Chi, but I ended up teaching their Tai Chi class. The only other activity I saw was patients working on jigsaw puzzles. The environment is that of a typical nursing home and it's not therapeutic."

"I would definitely recommend this live in rehab to anyone who needs it! My grandma was back on her feet in no time. The first time she was there, it was for 6 months, and we are actually looking to get her to stay there permanently. The nurses are on top of things and are all so nice! Meals were always brought on time, whenever she needed anything it the nurse was there at attention. Therapy goes on everyday, a hairstylist comes in and does their hair weekly, and they have activities any elderly person would like! "

"My mother has been placed in Masonicare. The experience has been very positive. They’re very professional. The surroundings are rural, which is nice, and I like that. They have pretty much everything my mother needs. They have movies, games, exercise classes, and outings. My mother is entertained well. Also, we like this facility because it offers continuing care. "My great uncle had a long stay here due to a redo of a knee replacement. His room was large and airy. Clean is not the word, this place was immaculate! The comfort you feel while visiting actually makes you want to return. It's a very bright and cheery place. His knee was well tended to and his continuous physical therapy had him mobile in no time.
