We liked the apartments at Whitney Center, but it was too expensive for us. It looked good, and we would have been satisfied if we could afford it.

Whitney Center has a hotel like setup. It has restaurants, a fitness center, post office and doctors onsite. Everything was under one roof and you don’t need another facility. The staff was very nice. The rooms were spacious and it had a kitchenette.

Whitney Center was very nice. I like everything that they do for the people that lived there. I had a meal there and it was very well done. It was like a high class restaurant. Their rooms were like apartments and it had lots of closets and space so people wouldn’t have to condense as much as you would think when you move in there.

Upon the multiple visits to this facility, I noticed that what makes it stand out is its staff. The nurses and other assistants were all extremely friendly and attentive to the residents. Whenever a senior was in need of any service, someone was willing to help out. The meals are not the best, but there is a lot of variety and good hearty portions. Visitors are allowed to come on a regular basis although not many family members and friends make it often. It's very beneficial that the seniors have an environment in which they can meet others so that they aren't lonely or bored. Occasionally, the facility puts on shows and has events, such as bingo or game night.

I was very impressed with this facility. From the secretary to the President (who was very visible and accessible) my Grandmother, the residents and all visitors were treated with such respect and kindness. I very much looked forward to my visits and my Grandmother loved being here because she met so many great friends. There were also always activities going on throughout the day such as games of chess, trips to local shops and weekly movie nights. I also really enjoyed the food. It was served in a fine dining room where the waitstaff wore tuxedo shirts and bow ties and the food was very high quality. If there ever were any issues the waitstaff, hostess and manager would all make themselves visible and would accomodate any special requests. It was an expensive facility, but it provides you with so many great opportunities and experiences. There is a pool, library, store, bank and even a hair salon all on the premises. There is also a health-care unit which is staffed with many able nurses. This was an empowering community for my Grandmother and I am so glad that she was able to stay here and that I had the privilege of spending time with her and all the wonderful staff.

When my mother's illness got worse, and I knew I couldn't take care of her myself, we had to start looking at homes. We had looked at a few places before The Whitney Center but none really jumped out at us as being a place where my mother would be happy and well taken care of. When we first entered The Whitney Center I was very impressed by how much it looked like an upscale apartment building, the sort of classy place my mother always wanted to live in. My mother was very happy with the decor of the lower floors, and before we got a tour of some of the rooms, our guide took us to dinner in the dining area. The waitstaff was all very friendly and well dressed, and though they did not have the same rapport with my mother as they did with the other residents they treated her just as kindly. There were a lot of options for dinner and the filet mignon that my mother chose was perfectly cooked. She was very happy with the dinner. The residents too were friendly and very welcoming. For the last part of our tour we viewed the rooms on the top floor and there was a lovely rooftop garden area open to all the residents. The rooms were very spacious and came with full kitchens. Our guide told us about events that the center held every week, movies and music, and how they scheduled trips to the town center and the New Haven downtown area. We left that day with a very good feeling about The Whitney Center, and though we've been touring a few other places, I think The Whitney Center is the one we'll come back to.
