"I like Fairfield At St James. It's pleasant and welcoming. It's not a new community although there are some new buildings. There's something nice about the way it's laid out, and the clubhouse is very nice. They also have an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a library and things like that. I like the basic feel of it. Basically they don't have a meal a day or amenities, and there are no services provided. It's just independent living. They showed me the apartment during our tour."

"We went to visit Brightview Sayville and it was fabulous, the place was amazing. It was just too expensive but it's beautiful, brightly lit, and brand new. Our tour guide was exceptionally personable and professional. They had so many different areas, they had an area for retirement living, assisted living, and memory care, with each in its own area. They had a 5-star movie theater, they had a bar where people go at night to meet and converse, and they could have drinks in a bar, they have everything. I just didn't get to meet a lot of the staff members. The place made me feel like I was on a cruise ship. It's right across the street from Target so it's very, very close to shopping, and it's not far from a hospital."

"We are in Fairfield Knolls South and they are really well done. The design of the space is awesome. The rent is high but, we have 1400 square feet; we have a garage; we have a driveway; we a little balcony and the room size is very generous for the money that we pay. It has two bedrooms and two baths. We have a club house, a full gym and an outdoor pool. There are activities and it is a lovely place to be. We know it of good value. It is just more than what we want to spend going forward. "

"We actually visited places with limited licenses. Some of them would say that when my mother was wheelchair bound, she would have to go someplace else. However, The Bristal at Sayville has a better license, but they weren't opening until April or May. The people we spoke to, everybody was very professional. There was no problem with the personnel at all. There was also no problem with the architecture of the building. They showed us pictures of the building; it wasn't finished yet, but it looked like it was going to be a beautiful place when they opened. The staff we talked to were tremendous, it was just the licensing just didn't work out. "

"I was visiting friends at Pinehurst, A Conifer Community. They have moved in about six or seven months before. I liked it. The grounds were kept well. The facility itself was very clean inside. It was nice to see there were people outside just sitting and enjoying the weather and stuff. It's a very quaint and clean community. They had a one-bedroom with a living room and kitchen, and then they had the washer-dryer right in the unit. It was nice. Then they had a terrace off of their unit where they could sit outside if they wanted to. It was pretty, and it was perfect. The size and everything were nice. My friends said they have bingo there, they do movies and stuff, and they take them on trips if they want to go. I noticed that there was transportation that they could use. My friend said the activities were nice. Everything was nice. They're getting their money's worth, and it was a lot cheaper for places in the area if they were to buy an apartment or something somewhere else. It was reasonable."

"My grandmother stayed here from 2005 until she passed away in 2009 and I have to say this is a very impressive facility. Although it is a bit on the pricey side, you definitely get what you pay for. The private rooms are very nice and clean with a kitchenette, the staff is friendly and they offer plenty of activities to keep you busy. What's great about this facility is that it's right next to the Jewish Y in Commack so you don't have to go far at all if you like to go swimming or enjoy Jewish cultural activities. The Gurwin Center also provides their residents with transportation. Another feature here is they do have a synagogue on site. Although the Gurwin Center is a Kosher facility and has mainly Jewish residents, there were also quite a number of non Jewish residents too. Very warm and friendly atmosphere and inviting to all faiths. I was impressed and highly recommend the Gurwin Center to anyone thinking about staying at an assisted living facility. "

"I live in Leisure Glen. It’s a very large, gated community, and it has a clubhouse. It’s beautifully landscaped and taken care of. They have a lot of activities. We have paddle ball. There’s a group that plays bocce all the time. They have card games. You have your own home, and they take care of the grounds and everything for you which is nice. You have to do your own cooking. There’s no cooking unless it’s a party."

"Fairlawn Adult Home was not to be rejected judging on the outside, but when we went it, we were disappointed in the general appearance. It was not what we had hoped for. We arrived at about lunchtime and found that the lunch area was brimming with folk, so its capacity seemed to be not quite what you would expect. I wouldn't want to have to have my meals in a place like that day after day. The ambiance not as good as I hoped. In general, we found it unacceptable for our purposes. The staff members who gave us the tour were very nice people, and we felt welcomed and were not treated as if we were an infringement on anything. We were invited to look at everything. I didn't see any discontent, but the rooms were not ideal for the people who were occupying them. All the rooms were shared and occupied by at least two people, and I was hoping to have a private space."
