"My caregiver is from Serene. She's great and very friendly. She doesn't cook because I will not let her, but she cleans and everything else. She shows up on time and leaves on time. "

"I can't say enough good things about my experience with Catholic Home Care. Our services were set up by the East Neck Nursing & Rehab Center and a representative immediately went to the nursing home to see my husband. The day after he arrived home, he was visited by the nursing supervisor, who was extremely knowledgeable about all services, was able to make recommendations, and was kind and supportive to me, the caregiver. She was also extremely thorough in taking the information for the application and in examining my husband. We were given a Welcoming Packet of patient information containing emergency numbers and information, pain management guidelines, Medicare information, Home Health aide services, household and patient safety, infection control, patient action plan, etc. She immediately opened the case and the next day we were visited by the nurse and physical therapist. The nurse was also very knowledgeable and had a compassionate manner with my husband. The physical therapist was very intuitive about my husband's abilities and limitations. She was also very compassionate and patient. She was a great problem-solver in that she noticed that we could get better equipment from the medical supplier and had me call to request it while she was there at the house. It was very evident that this PT enjoyed working with people- both the patient and caregiver. I had all the confidence in her and all the other service providers I met through Catholic Home Care. They have my confidence and trust that they will do the right thing for all concerned. If I ever need this service again, they will be the first to be called "

"They took care of everything: visiting nurse, home health aide and in home physical therapy. They knew what was needed, created a plan with structure, gave me a wipe erase calendar for my fridge, and followed through. All staff was professional, polite and pleasant. They even liaised with my surgeon. I highly recommend them. Wish I'd known about them years ago when my family needed help. Kindred at Home was far superior to the agencies we tried. Physical therapist Rome, home health aide Anna, Nurse Kristy and Laura."

"Developmental Disabilities Institute is an assisted living provider for autistic adults. My aunt is autistic and lives in a residential home. I was invited to a summer party last year. It was very nice. The staff was courteous and inviting. They treated the individuals as if they were just good friends. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. There was one incident with an individual but the staff calmly and professionally took care of the situation. The house was clean and my aunt and the rest of the individuals seemed very happy. They had fun playing games, but mostly enjoyed the copious amounts of food that the housekeeper had made from scratch. I got to see my aunts room which was neat and tidy. She loves movies. She probably owns thousands of them. They were even kept in alphabetical order which she says one of the staff helps her with regularly. Overall I would say DDI is a great place for my aunt to be staying. "

"This home-care agency was always available when i needed them, any time i called them they were available or called right back. They were caring and offered empathy to me, as my mother's caregiver. My mother has since passed, on August 17, 2011. On the night she died, i was able to reach her nurse at 9PM, which was a blessing that i found her especially since it was after hours. She was able to come to my mother's apartment and pronounce her, saving much time and agony. She also met with the police and ambulance workers who were there. So, right up to the end, they were there for my family. Everyone my mom worked with was kind, understanding and patient. I would recommend this home-care to anyone who is in need of this type of care. "

"If your loved one has dietary restrictions and/or dementia, think twice before enrolling them in their "Adult Day Health Program". My mom went here for a one week "trial" in their medical model adult day health program. She has short-term memory loss dementia, poor vision (legally blind in one eye) hypertension and spinal stenosis. The administrative staff seemed friendly and helpful at first, but upon a second day "visit" to drop off some meds I witnessed dietary errors, miscommunications and poor judgement of mom's needs. When I arrived to drop off some meds and vitamins mom had been taking, I witnessed mom assigned to a room with developmentally disabled and severe Alzheimer's patients. Patients unable to communicate, patients rocking back and forth, drooling or just sitting with their head down. Mom is not that bad mentally! She looked totally miserable. I was told she was confused the day before and she refused to do a crossword puzzle with the more higher functioning individuals, so they were going to "try" her out in that room. I did not feel that was a good reason for grouping her with DD and severe Alzheimer's patients. She is an introverted person and will speak if you speak to her first. She knows people, names, doesn't wander and is very docile. She was totally miserable there! As her lunch was served, I saw a dried out looking hamburger on the plate, ketchup in a package that she could not open due to arthritis in her hands, and very salty tomato juice! Mom has hypertension and is on a low fat diet, which I had reiterated to the head nurse many times, both verbally and in writing. Moreover, that morning I had discussed in depth with the head Dietician and came up with a menu plan, but they paid NO attention to it at all. Nobody was there to supervise or help her open the ketchup. Nobody even offered. I was glad I was there to help, but began to worry about the times I could not be there. The Dietician popped in to the room and just told mom she had beautiful eyes. She didn't even notice the salt laden juice on her tray, and that the menu was not as she had discussed with me at all! I had to point it out to her. Moreover, during mom's hour long assessment a week prior we were told the staff could administer meds and vitamins. We had a doctor's script giving them permission, plus the meds and vitamins in the original bottles. The first nurse in the room with DD patients was okay with it. After I requested mom to be switched back to the higher functioning group, the head nurse in that particular room promptly came at me with an attitude and stated "I can't give her these, they are not marked properly". So, which is it? It's okay to administer meds in one room, not in the other? And then it was mentioned that even OTC vitamins must have a prescription label, which was never explained to me during mom's hour long "assessment" the week prior. We had gone over her meds IN DETAIL, in person and on paper, and that was never made clear to me. The head nurse copped an attitude and said "it was in your paperwork that we MAILED to you, I ASSUMED you knew". To add insult to injury, the bus driver was irregular with pickup and drop off times and had to be told repeatedly that mom needed assistance walking to the bus due to her poor eyesight. You would think that by day four he would remember! One day when he was 45 minutes late in picking up mom, I called the home to speak to the head of transportation, whom I had met a day or so prior. The operator was rude and would not put me through. She came back on after about 4 minutes and said "he's pulling up now". I said okay, thank you and hung up. When I looked outside, he was nowhere in sight. It took several minutes before he pulled up to the driveway. By the end of the week, the phone receptionist reported that I was "yelling and screaming" at them during that phone call that mom was late, which was a big lie. They sure do know how to cover themselves and turn things around to make you look like a complainer when they do not follow protocol. Makes me wonder what else they would lie about. "

"While 6 years ago I thought this was the best I could find for dementia care, today that is very untrue. This facility is in crash and burn mode. Constantly short staffed, no regulars so to many floats, causes mass confusion and panic. Residents aren’t receiving quality care, it is substandard. Mom is in the end stage of dementia, she has lost all language and is in pain. They refuse to hear us when we tell them. They refuse to help her because they say she isn’t. In the process of trying to go over their heads. 40 Residents, 1 RN, 1Lpn, 4 aides. State guidelines met, patient care failed. Sad you must be a 24 -7 advocate for your parent. I was but now have to work. My mom is suffering. No teeth, modified chopped and they provide a turkey burger and tater tots for lunch . I asked for soup ! Wheelchair never cleaned unless I do. Was away came back soaking wet white mold growing underpad. Now every time I go I dismantle and clean the chair. I go at night to get her in bed and washed otherwise they leave her sitting in pain up till 10’ she’s ready at 7 the latest. I am failing my mom stay away from here so you don’t!"

"We got Always Compassionate Home Care for my husband. She comes in to take care of him and she showers him and gets him ready. She gets him dressed, gets him ready for some breakfast, and cleans up. After breakfast, she goes to the doctor's appointments with us, and she's very helpful in getting him out of the car and assisting him into any office. She holds on to him that kind of thing. And then she also watches what they do. We go to OT and she watches what they do, and then she comes home, and then the next day she does the exercises that they were doing there. She watches, she observes and does that kind of thing, so she works with him. She makes breakfast and lunch for my husband and gives snacks in between. The other aide was very good too. It's the subs they had in between that they sent here, and I would call up and say this was not working out. She comes five days a week, 40 hours. The nurse comes every three months to check on him. She writes a report, and she's been good so that part of it has been good. It's just that they have a hard time getting aides"
