"We like the amenities and the actual apartments they had to offer. The meal plans were included in the monthly rent. The apartments were very spacious. They have multiple activities that the residents can partake in on and off the property. They had different classes that they could partake in as well. They had transportation and you didn't have to pay an additional fee."

"I did a tour of Colebrook Village at Hebron. It's in the running, but I'm still waiting. We have to see what my father's needs are going to be, and I'm working with the VA to see if they can come through with some assistance. The tour was very positive, the manager was wonderful, the Marketing Manager. I toured one of the apartments, saw the library, and the dining facilities. I saw the courtyard where somebody planted tomatoes. Also walked past the hairdresser, recreation rooms, and physical exercise room. We worked with one person; she was great. She's marketing, so I would expect that person to be trying to sell you the place. The one apartment I saw looked nice, and the other things. They also had a movie theater."

"Hoffman SummerWood generates a lot of people of the Jewish faith. It is basically built by Jewish people, so the food is kosher, and the majority of their residents are Jewish. There is nothing wrong with that, but I didn't think my parents would acclimate to that type of environment. It was clean and beautiful, but it wasn't what my mom and dad would need. The staff was excellent. The individual that showed us around was great. She answered a lot of questions. At the end, she actually had the chef prepare three meals for me to bring back for my mom and dad. It was a salmon salad, which was just very lovely. It was absolutely beautiful. However, it would have been nice if the grounds were kept up a little bit more. There were patio chairs tipped over, and it could have been because it was raining the night before, but other than that, it was absolutely gorgeous, it just wasn't what my parents would probably feel comfortable in. The rooms were beautiful, but I was looking for a place that had a patio. I was a little discouraged that they didn't have that because that's like a big piece of what would probably sell my mom, the opportunity for her to break out of her room and have a space of her own and not necessarily to have to walk through the whole facility to go out into the courtyard."

"I went to Solstice Senior Living at Guilford. It's warm, welcoming, airy, friendly, busy, and accommodating. It was a good feeling when you walked in. The woman that accommodated me was very, very helpful. Extremely helpful. Extremely knowledgeable. I saw the library, which I think they're redoing. They had a cafe. The dining room was lovely. I saw a number of people in gathering areas, common areas, which is very nice to see, a lot of activity, people that were there walking about and chatting and getting their mail. It looks like a community versus a facility. I did not try the food, but they gave me cookies when I left, and I did see menus and a sheet of monthly activities. I saw a few of the staff when we were on the tour. They stopped and talked to Kristen who gave me the tour, and they seemed friendly. The housekeeping was nice. She stopped and chatted. They said hello. I saw them interacting with some of the staff."

"Evergreen Crossings Retirement Community was a very nice place, but their prices are a little higher. They have a cafeteria-style dining room and it's a huge dining room and you can have your meals in your room if you want. They can bring the food to you or you can get it yourself. You sit down with whoever you want or with nobody if you don't want anybody and it seems like a much more flexible arrangement as far as the food is concerned. We've had the food there and that's very good. It's a beautiful facility. They take good care of them. They're very clean and very well maintained. They have good heating and air-conditioning in the rooms, and they're all designed to be individual, so you can set your own thermostat and you don't have to worry about anybody else's heat or air-conditioning. They allow pets. You walk into the foyer and they have a waterfall thing going on that makes it very restful and very calming. Everything is spacious and clean. They have a beautiful theater that has theater seating rather than chairs. It's got a stage and they have performances. They show movies there every afternoon. They've got maybe 15 or 20 rows in it. It's a big place and it's very nice. It's a little more expensive than the others, but it would be worth it. You get to select the meals. They have a group of entrees that you can pick from for dinner."

"I visited Holiday White Oaks. The facility was very nice and beautiful. I was not necessarily a fan of the parking lot being in front of the building the way it was. It made it look kind of like a hotel, but the facility itself was gorgeous. They were updating some rooms. I saw an updated studio with a balcony, and it was very nice. The way the bathroom was set up was great. It had a mini kitchen with a refrigerator, a sink, and things like that for an apartment. They had a piano, a library, and a fitness room that had stuff in it. The people could get on the treadmill, which worked. They had the laundry set up very nicely, and it was fully accessible. It was very safe and clean. The lobby was absolutely beautiful. The staff was phenomenal. She was wonderful and caring. She even offered suggestions about things to look at for the units and how to make them feel a little bit more spacious, how to interact with my mom, and having a discussion with her about possibly moving and things like that. She was very knowledgeable and extremely accessible. Some of the rooms were a little dated."

"Staff provides excellent service from servers, receptionists, admin, cleaning and especially maintenance. Maintenance supervisor came after hours to fix a problem in our apartment and followed up the next day. "

"A residential option for seniors is all that we require once they become old. Doing activities like going to bathrooms, cooking, dressing and showering etc can be undertaken very easily in assisted living. I visited this facility to let my father live a peaceful life. I found it nice, safe and secure for 24 hours. Medical facility is available in close vicinity. The residents enjoy all kind of luxuries at reasonable rates. The facility is quite cheap and does not cost extra burden. Good quality food is available as desired by the residents. Routine is quite attractive and every effort is made by the management to let everyone form part of this home. Residents can contact their siblings and enjoy the facility of transportation for going anywhere. I liked the facility being neat and tidy. It has been experienced that most of the people get settled fairly quickly in this particular facility. Still, if some one feels lonely, staff on duty provides a warm and friendly gesture. Surely, it is a nice place to stay "

"My husband is at The Residence at Brookside in the memory care unit, called Reflections, in his own apartment. It has a nice spacious room for his bed, table, and chairs. It's very nice and has a large bathroom. This place is just about a year old. The facility is practically brand new. What I'm paying monthly now is $8,450. "

"Cedar Woods was very pleasant and congenial. The staff was professional. The rooms were clean and bright. They had a good selection of activities. It was cheerful."

"We chose Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks for my mother-in-law because she's lived in that area and is comfortable there. The staff has been wonderful, everyone is just wonderful and welcoming. Her room there is very nice and very clean. There's been a maintenance guy there that's been helping her, there's a nurse and a house-keeper; it's great. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I'm very happy with the care that she's getting and I'm very happy that the move went very smoothly. They have tons of activities. Every day they have activities, plus they have a spa there, a movie room, plus there's beautiful seating outside. It's great."

"I've only been living here for a month now. I signed up with them at least three years ago, before they even built it. There are a couple of things I really liked about it. One was that there was a washer and dryer in the apartment. They had crafts and stuff. They had numerous activities going on, and they had garages. I was able to move all of my stuff over to the garage. It's brand new and very clean."

"Elmbrook Village is a nice community, it's newer, and I like the proximity to my house. It's actually not too far from my parents either. The tour was good too. There was an outdoor area for memory care. It's a walled-in area that has picnic tables, but it has an overhang like an awning that's built into the building. So if it's rainy or snowy out, you're covered. I liked the staff very much. The memory care is in one wing, and it's not too big, so it seems manageable. They have an activity/TV area on one side and the cafeteria on the other side. They were doing music when we visited, so they were trying to get the residents to sing along. The other time I went, they were eating together at tables and in between eating, they seemed to converse to each other as much as they could. I like the width of the rooms. If you have a wheelchair or a walker, it seems like the width of the doorway is better accommodated for that. The facility was newer, it was nice, it seemed clean, and it didn't smell. It was bright, and on the outside it had some color, not just white or gray, so it's more inviting. I like that the menu has certain stuff in case they don't like what the daily menu has. They try to give them something new for the whole facility every day, but when you're in memory care, you have the ability to say that you're not interested in the menu, and you can get a chicken sandwich or a hamburger. They have a choice, so that's nice. I like the location, too, because it's not too far from the highway but also not close to much, so they're not getting distracted if they walk outside."
