"I visited Suffield by the River to see their memory care. It's top-notch and a great place. It's right near my home, very clean, and well-appointed. The staff could be a little bit friendlier, though. It's got everything that anybody would need but it's also a little bit pricey. They have shared rooms and private ones if you want to pay extra. They have common areas and a dining hall. They have activities and plenty of stuff for the residents to do. They also have a lot of in-house services like the usual hairdresser."

"Everybody at Brookdale Chatfield has been nice to us. The food is not bad at all; it's actually pretty good. The people are nice and accommodating. So far, it seems like a very pleasant place to be. There is a room with physical fitness equipment. They've just constructed new buildings for assisted living. "

"Lodge at Cold Spring seemed OK, but it was a little more expensive than where my father-in-law is. Unfortunately, after we had already booked him into the place where he is currently, the guy came back to me and was willing to cut the prices down a little bit for us, but we had already signed a lease and everything at the other place. They seemed a little bit more expensive after having extra services put in. The staff members all seemed nice. They had activities going on there, but everything was very limited. Because of COVID their bus service wasn't completely in place yet for getting him to appointments, so they would make accommodations using Uber, which I wasn't thrilled about, but at least they still offered the service. The facility was nice. We didn't meet many people other than the woman at the front desk and then we just met the sales guy, and he was very nice. If he had given us a true price to begin with, it might have been different, and maybe my father-in-law would've been in there instead."

"The Residence at Brookside was a very nice facility. Partly the reason is because they're more expensive than the other place. It's a beautiful place. They have a memory care facility as well, but we didn't look at that. We only met the marketing lady, and she was very nice. We couldn't go in there if we didn't wear masks. I was impressed."

"Colebrook Village at Hebron was very nice. We had lunch there, which was just soup and a sandwich. The people were very friendly and very nice. There were many people who were using such devices, so that turned me off a little bit. But the facility was lovely, and the accommodations were lovely. The other thing I like about Colebrook is that they have a lot of people there that I know. So I wouldn't be going into a place without knowing anyone. So that was a plus. It was friendly and very accessible. There are some walking trails, and it is very near to my primary doctor, CVS, and a supermarket, and that's a plus. The person who works there brought me meals from Colebrook, and the food is very, very good."

"I'm in Discovery Village Farmington. They're in the process of being taken over by another business, so they have just changed their name. It just happened a couple of months ago. They're downsizing a bit and will be turning into something else. They are doing renovations and changing furniture and flooring. They are fixing it up and changing all the windows, and we are happy that they are. I'm in their independent living community in a 1-bedroom apartment, which has plenty of space. They serve food, and it has been fine. For activities, they go on excursions once a week."

"I am a resident of Covenant Living of Cromwell. The residents who live here and the staff work together; everybody is very friendly, and they make it easy for people to transition into this place. If you're going from independent living to assisted living, or to memory care, or to Pilgrim Manor, which is skilled nursing care, they make those transitions easy. And they have people who regularly talk with people who are interested in coming here. So they meet the residents, and they chat with them. It's just a very friendly place with lots of activities. The staff works hard. This is a non-profit organization, and they're highly restricted by their budget. I think that maintenance and upkeep would be better if they had more funding, but that's what it is. We're provided with a food allowance, a certain amount of money, and that usually allows you to get a full meal, like an entree plus four sides every day. It works out for most people. But I do some of my own cooking. I don't usually eat breakfast with the community. I eat breakfast at home, I make my own coffee and toast, and stuff like that. The presentation is usually very good. Taste varies depending on what it is that they're trying to make. Sometimes when they're trying to make specialty things like Mexican or Korean, it can be a little too spicy for some people. But they are very receptive to people having allergies. They're aware that a lot of people have gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. They're also aware that people have allergies to particular foods, and they try to work with the clients to make sure that they have food for everybody, including vegetarians. They have everything from playing cards to fitness classes. There's a small fitness area with machines that you can use. They have free weights, a treadmill, and another machine that you stand on and basically walk. They have trips outside. For example, last summer, we did a lobster roll contest where we went to all these places that made lobster rolls, we tasted them, and then voted on which one was the best choice. So it was fun. They have all kinds of activities; they just went bowling the other day and had lunch out. I've been on trips where we went down to the shoreline, and we got on a boat tour of the Thimble Islands. They do boat tours around Rhode Island. They have all kinds of activities. We have a hiking club. Usually, once a month, the hiking club takes people on the community bus, and they walk on a trail that is manageable for most people. There is a buy-in for this particular institution here, but if you look at the monthly rates, they're lower than most other places."

"My in-laws moved to Village Gate at Farmington and they liked it very much. The facility is nice and they feel that the food is better. They just liked the whole place a lot better. The rooms were large and the people there are so nice. "

"My mother-in-law is a resident of Quail Run Estates. It’s nice, the appearance is nice, the people are friendly, and it is good. The room is perfect for her. It is a studio and has a bathroom, and everything is convenient and sufficient for her. She likes the food; she gets fed plenty. The dining room is nice, and the people are friendly, so she’s very happy. It’s a good value for the price. It’s a friendly environment, they have things to do for people to talk to other people, and the accommodations are fine. There is a place where you can get your nails and hair done. So everything is accommodating for her needs and for anybody’s. "

"My father was a resident of Bluebird Estates. They were absolutely wonderful and had a nice family-like setting. They really cared about the people who lived there. The staff members were all wonderful. The food was pretty good and had a limited selection. They always posted a meal plan. The menu always had options. They always had snacks, coffee, and tea available. It was a nice dining setup. They had housekeeping, onsite laundry, once-a-week movie night, bingo, a bunch of clubs available that you could join, and a community garden in which you could participate. It wasn't cheap, but they provided everything that you could possibly need."

"The apartment at The Wellington at Springfield was currently an apartment used by the office staff or the administrator. It was very spacious and clean. I know my mother wouldn't be happy there. It took me a long time to get there; there was a lot of traffic and a lot of stoplights. At first, I couldn't find the place inside. Once I got in, I just drove past the sign and went to another building; it was difficult for me to find. The grounds are beautiful. I met the activities person; they had a lot of things to do."
