"Mom is getting excellent care at Emeritus at South Windsor. I know that they have plenty of activities, but at the level my mom is at right now, I don’t think she participates in them. They have a wonderful staff and I think they pretty much follow up all the way around as much as they can. "

"I visited Holiday White Oaks. The tour director showed us pretty much three or four different styles of apartments. It was close to noontime, so they brought us down to the dining area, and everything was very nice and clean, and it felt like I was at a restaurant. She gave me a brochure to take home with all kinds of information. The one-bedroom felt a little cramped. Otherwise, everything was clean and pretty much updated. Everything looked nice. I have no complaints. My son was saying that he preferred for me to be on the first floor. They have a nice sliding door and a little patio area for each apartment, so it really didn't matter that much to me which level I would be on. The staff was nice. I can't really complain or say anything bad there. The facility was nice. It was a little bit close to the road, probably for some of the different apartments, but for the most part, the ones that they showed us were towards the back, and it was interesting because it seemed like we were out in the country. I have no complaints. There were some parking spaces in front of the building for guests, and that's where I parked. I never got a view of the whole area."

"Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks was beautiful. It looked brand new. They had everything we could ask for. We would have gone there if they were closer. It was our first pick. The person who gave us the tour was awesome, very friendly, and very knowledgeable. We did not see the rooms though. We saw the whole activity room, where they eat, and the different places that they have, like where they get their hair done and where they get their nails done. Everything is like one big open room where they have a living room and a dining room, and the activities are all kind of in the same huge room with the residents' rooms off on the side. They had an activities director, and they had arts and crafts, bingo, trivia, music, and trips."

"Our tour of Covenant Living of Cromwell was great. It was awesome. It was like a hotel when you walked in there. It was absolutely beautiful. The staff was amazing. They had a cafeteria, a restaurant, and then they had a coffee shop. So there were three places you could go for a meal. They had a snack room, too. They allow you to have three meals a day, but it was like a credit card setup where they give you so much money every month and allotment for food. I think it was $300 for each person a month. The menus were awesome. The apartments were very nice. They even had a deck where you could go outside (each one had a patio deck). It's very quiet and you could bring pets if you wanted to. They had a movie theater, a music room, and an activities room where you could crochet or needlepoint or have any hobbies, you could do it there. They kept their residents engaged with a bunch of activities going on. We would have picked it, but we just couldn't afford it. It was a little on the high side."

"I've only been living here in Connect55+ East Windsor for a month now. I signed up with them at least three years ago, before they even built it. There are a couple of things I really liked about it. One was that there was a washer and dryer in the apartment. They had crafts and stuff. They had numerous activities going on, and they had garages. I was able to move all of my stuff over to the garage. It's brand new and very clean."

"Colebrook Village at Hebron offers 24-hour nursing care. I probably would have opted to go with this facility, because it's closer to us, but they didn't have any availability when we visited. We toured the memory care area and they were very kind, understanding, empathetic, and very welcoming. It was well-kept and very clean."

"Mom is at Holiday Quail Run Estates. Everyone is very nice and the property is very nice. The food is pretty good. She has a studio with a full shower. She has a fridge (she doesn't have a full kitchen). They have concerts, arts and crafts, bingo, and movie nights."

"We went to Commonwealth Senior Living at Haddam. It was very good. The facility itself was beautiful. It was spotless and well-staffed. The people that we met were all very, very nice. The units were very, very nice. We looked at a studio and a single room and they were actually really, really nice. They got everything you would need."

"I visited Holiday Bluebird Estates in East Longmeadow, and I really liked it. It was nice and clean. I thought the dining area was nice and clean, too. The rooms were good, looked adequate, were a good size, and clean. They seem to have a lot of nice activities and things to do. They had a beauty salon, activities, and exercise rooms. The outdoor area was nice. Everybody had nice little decks and the grounds were pretty. The only thing that was a little different was that it was all a la carte. For example, if you wanted someone to go give your loved one medicine, that service would be ala carte, while some places are all-inclusive."

"Good food, I love spending time with my new friends. There are all kind of activities at the Holiday, we can do whatever we want to for activities. They also have a friendly, helpful staff. The property is in Immaculate condition, and I have no problems with anybody!"

"Mom is currently in the assisted living portion of AVIVA West Hartford and I have found the staff to be very responsive to my mom's needs. As her needs have changed, they have just stepped up to the plate and adapted to her needing more assistance. I've also appreciated that they are very good at encouraging my mom and escorting her to different activities to keep her engaged. Their chef just started doing demonstrations weekly, they frequently have musicians and musical performances, and there are also craft activities like painting. Their food is very good, too."

"Avery Heights was nothing to look at at all. It's almost like something out of a haunted house or a haunted movie. It's almost like an abandoned military base is the best way I can describe it. I don’t know if it was the time of year and nothing was blooming, but just the scent and feel that I got when I drove up there. Once you get inside though, the apartments are great. The rooms are bigger and the kitchen is a full kitchen where a wall separates the kitchen from the rest of the living room. My mom felt like she could have a full kitchen there with ample counter space. The rooms are bigger and the parking is underneath. My father, who does not use a wheelchair and any assisted device as he should, could just go straight down an elevator rather than going down a long hallway and outdoor to his car. He can go down an elevator and his car will be in a garage underneath, so that's the physical distance he doesn't have to worry about. It's also covered so he doesn't ever have to worry about the elements or him falling on the wet ground because of snow. They also seemed the most accommodating, even to the point where they can adjust pricing. For instance, my parents don't necessarily need someone to come in and clean the apartment once a week, so they'll take it off the price. They're a lot more flexible than most of the other places we've seen, which, I think for my parents and their age, is important. When you're spending over $5,000 a month for rent, that price tag for an 84-year-old is pretty shocking. The facility needs some remodeling though. I think they put all their money into the individual apartments, which I think is an appropriate position. It's also very clean. I think you could call it independent living but you could also age in place there. So, if you needed to move into assisted living, you can still stay in your apartment, unless you need skilled nursing. If you start to need assistance, like someone to come in and give you a bath once a week, you could still stay in your apartment."

"We moved to The McAuley a year ago and love the independent living here. We continue to live our lives as we did before we came, visiting friends and families, but not we also have the friendship of the other residents. And we are free of the troubles related to home and condo ownership!"
