"I toured Lodge at Cold Spring. It felt very welcoming. The person that took me on the tour showed me a bunch of different options and really discussed what they had to offer. We were taken to all the different areas, and they have a lot of different options. They have a bus, they have a library, they have a pool room, and they do video games. They just seem to have a lot of activities. You can even bring a dog if you have one. It was a very pleasant and welcoming place. The tour manager and the assistants went out of their way. They didn't rush us through. They took out their time. They showed us the entire complex, and there was no time limit placed on the tour. Like some of the other facilities, they would rush you in and out. Many of the residents came up and said, "Hello, are you looking?" They had a beautiful lunchroom and dining hall, and they had a special room where you can have birthday parties or any kind of party. I think my mom will be very happy there. Everywhere they took us, even into the rooms that were ready to be leased, they were spotless. It was very nice. Some people have cars, and they go out. There are nice sidewalks around other areas to walk, and they have a bus that will take you different places, you just have to see the schedule. They have a library, they have this huge TV room where you can play Wii games or whatever on the TV, they have a billiard table in a different room, and then they have a room where you can get snacks all day, like all kinds of coffee, tea, drinks, cookies, and fruits so that you can get a snack whenever you want, and it was like being in a hotel."

"I am a resident of Covenant Living of Cromwell. The residents who live here and the staff work together; everybody is very friendly, and they make it easy for people to transition into this place. If you're going from independent living to assisted living, or to memory care, or to Pilgrim Manor, which is skilled nursing care, they make those transitions easy. And they have people who regularly talk with people who are interested in coming here. So they meet the residents, and they chat with them. It's just a very friendly place with lots of activities. The staff works hard. This is a non-profit organization, and they're highly restricted by their budget. I think that maintenance and upkeep would be better if they had more funding, but that's what it is. We're provided with a food allowance, a certain amount of money, and that usually allows you to get a full meal, like an entree plus four sides every day. It works out for most people. But I do some of my own cooking. I don't usually eat breakfast with the community. I eat breakfast at home, I make my own coffee and toast, and stuff like that. The presentation is usually very good. Taste varies depending on what it is that they're trying to make. Sometimes when they're trying to make specialty things like Mexican or Korean, it can be a little too spicy for some people. But they are very receptive to people having allergies. They're aware that a lot of people have gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. They're also aware that people have allergies to particular foods, and they try to work with the clients to make sure that they have food for everybody, including vegetarians. They have everything from playing cards to fitness classes. There's a small fitness area with machines that you can use. They have free weights, a treadmill, and another machine that you stand on and basically walk. They have trips outside. For example, last summer, we did a lobster roll contest where we went to all these places that made lobster rolls, we tasted them, and then voted on which one was the best choice. So it was fun. They have all kinds of activities; they just went bowling the other day and had lunch out. I've been on trips where we went down to the shoreline, and we got on a boat tour of the Thimble Islands. They do boat tours around Rhode Island. They have all kinds of activities. We have a hiking club. Usually, once a month, the hiking club takes people on the community bus, and they walk on a trail that is manageable for most people. There is a buy-in for this particular institution here, but if you look at the monthly rates, they're lower than most other places."

"We will be moving into Avery Heights. The feeling we got walking in the front door was that it was an active, friendly place. Everybody was upbeat and walking around with smiles on. The staff was very friendly, outgoing, helpful, and very happy to be there doing programs with the actual residents. We had lunch with them, and it was okay. Everything was well kept. Everything looked like it had been maintained well. They have a fairly new pool on the ground floor and there are lots of other group activity rooms. There are plenty of places for people to be. I was very impressed with the rooms. We saw an older room that had not been through the rehab process yet. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There's plenty of square footage and a very nice balcony looking over a beautiful garden. There's great lighting in the room. It's a lovely space."

"My wife has moved into Brookdale Chatfield. I'm very satisfied with it. The living atmosphere is favorable. She has a very beautiful, large corner room. It has free window, a large toilet facility, and a shower. The staff is favorable. The meals are feasible. They do exercises, listen to music, they go on trips, and there's a TV room. The facilities are very nice and very bright."

"Hoffman SummerWood Community was overall really good. We sampled some of the pastries that they offer, which were good. They had a life-alert pendant that comes standard with your rent. As long as you're within a certain radius of the facility, you have that available to you and you don't have to pay anything extra. They pretty much have the same things as the other places. The staff during the tour was very good. They had a great menu that they offered for lunch and dinner."
