"It was a very nice place with very nice people. The rooms they had available for us though was in the basement facing the backside of the building and there was no sunshine coming in. It was a very spacious unit, but it was dark. It was kind of a cramped place. The hallways were tight and it was a very big place. So, my parents might get lost in there. The dining hall doesn't serve breakfast. They only served lunch or dinner."

"My Father-in-law was a charter member at Evergreen crossing and loved everything about his time there. The food was excellent, the people were wonderful. It was a big comfort to me to know that he was cared for so well when I could not be with him. I could not say enough good things about this residence. Bill, the manager, was phenomenal. He went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed and was always attentive to any requests or concerns. You could not ask for a better manager than Bill. The staff exceeded our expectations. The facility itself was like living in a Marriott it was so beautiful. It truly made my father-in-law’s final years the best ones. We will miss all of the people and staff. If you want the very best for your loved one or yourself, do not hesitate to come here to this caring, luxurious residence. You will not be disappointed. "

"I visited White Oaks, which is in my neighborhood. The staff were very accommodating. The nice thing about the apartments was they each had a balcony or a patio. The dining area looked very nice. "

"Mom is getting excellent care at Emeritus at South Windsor. I know that they have plenty of activities, but at the level my mom is at right now, I don’t think she participates in them. They have a wonderful staff and I think they pretty much follow up all the way around as much as they can. "

"Colebrook Village at Hebron was very nice. We had lunch there, which was just soup and a sandwich. The people were very friendly and very nice. There were many people who were using such devices, so that turned me off a little bit. But the facility was lovely, and the accommodations were lovely. The other thing I like about Colebrook is that they have a lot of people there that I know. So I wouldn't be going into a place without knowing anyone. So that was a plus. It was friendly and very accessible. There are some walking trails, and it is very near to my primary doctor, CVS, and a supermarket, and that's a plus. The person who works there brought me meals from Colebrook, and the food is very, very good."

"We're in Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks. This is our second year here. It's very easy to get to. It's right off the highway and that makes it easy for our son. I think we finally figured out the reason we're paying so much money is because we're helping to offset the nursing costs for people who need that. And since we don't need it, it doesn't seem fair. When we wanted to move, they only had certain units available, so we moved into one of the more expensive ones because I knew it would probably work out fine. I pretty much knew when we moved in that we would have to move out because their pricing structure is on the high side. The staff goes out of their way to make everything work as best as they can no matter what's going on. They have some challenges. The facilities are generally good, but there are times when things are not cleaned up appropriately. With regards to services, even though we have not needed those services, I question how they do that. It doesn't seem like I would be comfortable accessing those services because they don't look like they're done consistently. The atmosphere is generally nice, and people are getting involved in activities, so it's a friendly atmosphere. They have quite a variety of rooms here, too. I will credit that you can get something as small as a studio and up to a two-bedroom deluxe."

"It is lovely. The apartments were nicer than any other place we had seen. The layout was very good. The bathrooms were very large with a lot of grab bars and safety features. Architecturally, this was the best place we saw. There are a lot of big windows, the ceilings are high, the hallways are wide and that makes a huge difference more than other things that people might be looking for. All the residents we talked to had wonderful things to say about this facility spontaneously which I thought was pretty interesting. Everybody looked pretty happy. The staff who helped us with the tour were excellent. They were well-informed, very understanding, and very interested in feedback and preferences. The dining area and the food were excellent. "

"I have been living here for about a year now and Cedar Woods meets all of my needs. I have made many friends here and the staff is so helpful whenever I have needs. They had a lovely celebration for my birthday in January!"

"The Quail Run Estates was the one that we liked best. However, it's primarily independent living, which was not a perfect fit for my daughter. They do allow physical therapists to come in who are funded by some other source. They had studio apartments and one-bedrooms and daily activities. The meals were served in the dining room every day. Everything was accessible, and the bathrooms had a tub that would be easier for a person with a disability to get into. The staff was very nice and knew the people by name. They allow dogs with certain limitations. They provide transportation. I just preferred something a little smaller than 150 people because it's easy to get lost in that number of people. "

"We went to Elmbrook Village. It was a limited contact, but everything was fabulous. It's a beautiful facility, and the people were good. It's one of the places that we're gonna consider as we go forward. It's on the list of possibilities. The rooms were beautiful. Everything was beautiful and brand new. It's an incredible facility. The staff was very helpful, polite, and accommodating. Everybody was good. They did some baked goods for my mother, and everything was great. The outdoor space was very nice."

"I chose here for Mom because of the price. There's nothing we don't like, it's very nice. It's very clean. They offer a lot of services. It was comparable to places that were much more expensive. The staff was very attentive and responded quickly. The food is good, and some are better than others. You order restaurant-style with some daily specials and then there's a regular menu they have every day. They have a salon, a library, and transportation."

"The care is excellent, and the staffs are excellent at Avery Heights. Everybody is caring and attentive. It is very clean and updated. My mom went to a nice music activity the other day that she really enjoyed. They do a lot of music therapy there. "

"I had an extended tour at Luther Ridge. The place is wonderful. I was driven with everything. The place is very clean and I would say well run. They have lots of activities like bingos. They also have several religious activities. I have spoken to the activity director and she said that if I like any activity to start, she would be happy to do it. They also got transportation. Everything is there that I possibly want. They do allow pets which is important for me as I have a cat. "

"I am very impressed with the Court of Saint James. I want to move in there. They have one and two-bedroom apartments. Nothing's available immediately, but they have turnover as with most living places. Some people move out because they get to a point where they need assisted living or full care units. The facilities were very nice. The apartments were bigger than most of the units that I've looked at for seniors. The kitchens were extremely small, but they had everything in them. The good thing about the small kitchen is it's kinda hard to fall in there because once you're in the kitchen, you don't have to take any steps. You can stand in one place and just turn around, you will get your stove, your oven, your dishwasher, your refrigerator freezer, and your sink without really having to take too many steps. It's pretty safe and it has all the things you want. The cabinets are low enough that I can reach them and I'm short. Because it is a senior living place, the one-bedrooms have one-and-a-half baths. The main bathroom is part of the bedroom. The bedroom is good sized, actually larger than the apartment that I'm in now. The bathroom has a tub with a shower, but it also has a walk-in shower. You don't have to climb over the tub to take a shower, you can walk right into a separate shower. It's large enough that you could put in a chair or a bench in the shower so that you could sit down. The tub and the shower both have handles in the wall that you can hold on to, the ones that are made for handicapped living. It's a good sized bathroom with everything you want and it was very safe. I like the safety things in there. The areas that were not carpeted would be the kitchen and the bathroom. Everything else was wall-to-wall carpeting from the front door all the way through, which makes it safer. If you fall, at least it's a softer land. You're not landing on a hard floor. It has all kinds of recreation areas on the ground floor, a hair salon, a washer and dryer, a laundry room with plenty of seating space, and other little amenities. Each unit also has a hookup for a washer and dryer. You can get the stand-up where the dryer is on top of the washer. Some units come with it because the people have left it or you can buy your own. They have different services. Once a week, they pick people up to take them grocery shopping, and once a week, they have a hookup with the local restaurant where they give you the menu at the beginning of the month. If you like what they're serving, you can order a meal brought in from the restaurant for like $10. It's a nominal fee. They have an apartment on the premise that if you have guests that want to stay overnight, you can put in to request that apartment. I think it's available, they said, for $75 a night and it's fully furnished with a little kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area. There's also a nice lounge where they have many activities for the tenants, along with a full kitchen that goes with that lounge. It holds about 50 people and that is available for the tenants if you want to reserve it, to have a little party of your own with your family and others, especially like holiday time, your birthday or any time that you'd like to have a group to get together. There's no charge for it, you just have to reserve it in advance. The building is U-shaped and in the middle of that, there's a courtyard. The staff was very nice and answered all my questions. The only concern I have is that I've been waiting for a couple of weeks for an update or just status as to where I am on the waiting list and how things are moving in that direction. No one has gotten back to me. It could be that they don't have any definitive information, but I would just appreciate somebody calling me back to say that. They don't have food service, but you can order food from the outside for $10. You're right in the hub of West Hartford. CVS is next door. There's a pharmacy and drugstore right next to the property. Right in the immediate vicinity, there are shopping centers and cultural centers. You're within a mile of the West Hartford Center where so much goes on, lots and lots of activities if you want to leave the premises, but there's certainly a lot that you can do on the premises. It's very nice on every level, that's why I want to move there."
