"We looked at Solstice Senior Living at Guilford and it all looked very nice. It's high quality, very clean, and looked like a very nice place to live. The people there needed more assistance than my father. He's 75, and the average age there is towards the 80s. He felt he was a little too young to go there. They did a lot of nice activities, they had a movie night, they have game days and game nights, and reading events. It looks like a nice place for people to socialize. The staff was very friendly. The sales associate or person that we were speaking with was very knowledgeable and friendly, and followed up several times afterward. They wanted to make sure that we had all the information that we needed. And they had a waitlist at least as of November, and you can put a refundable deposit down and secure a place if you'd like."

"Charter Senior Living of Orange is absolutely beautiful. It has plenty of options for what kind of room, how much care you need, and how big a place you need. However, it was a little over the budget at the time, with what Mom wanted to spend or what she was expecting, so it was a bit of a sticker shock, and so Mom kind of got cold feet with the whole thing. The people who were running the tour were great. They were fine. They did a great job. They showed us everything we needed to see and told us everything we needed to find out. The place was only a couple of years old; it was just a great place."

"My mom moved into River Valley in September and is so happy with her decision. The facility is brand new, the apartments are spacious with in unit washer and dryers. There are lots of activities and amenities, the food is very good and the staff is friendly and goes out of their way for residents. This is a rare facility in that it is truly “independent living.” Many residents still drive (though there are group out trips and transportation to appoints available). This is a perfect spot for someone who no longer wants the burden of managing their own home and wants to be engaged with others. In the event that a resident needs assistance, there is a rehab and a care company that have space on site."

"I went to tour here. The layout was very nice. It was very spacious and very clean. The rooms were very nice in size. The staff was average. They have the same amenities as the others. They have a hair salon, a movie room, a dining room, a private dining room, and a library."

"We went to Spring Meadows Trumbull, and it's absolutely gorgeous but very expensive. The staff was delightful, caring, and the rooms were more like hotel rooms. The whole facility looked more like you were going into a hotel, but the prices where more than I could pay. The dining facility and the meeting rooms were lovely."

"I like Motif by Monarch. It's very nice. It fits my needs. The location was great. The people there were great. The activities seemed to be good. It's an A-plus. They had a library and a gathering room with a bar, and that was nice. They can eat outdoors in good weather. Some of the rooms have a kitchen, and some of them don't, so it depends on what you need. I only interacted with one employee and she was very nice and very informative. She did a good job explaining everything to me. She was very knowledgeable."

"First off my mother only being there a month but in that month's time I got to know Janelle Courtney and nurse Aaron. The whole facility was nothing but exceptional regarding the care they gave my mother and her last 3-4 weeks of life. I think they considered me like family and vice versa. I investigated six other facilities in the area and none come close this establishment. She enjoyed a private room with a great view and to be honest the chef there is amazing for the food. Thank you so much for the attention you gave our family. "

"I went to Maplewood at Southport. I think that was the most beautiful facility that I went to, it's the most modern, a lot of the activities they had been up to date like they provide them, Alexa, for all the different people in the community. They had virtual travel with VR technology. It had a nice courtyard area, and all the rooms were very nice also. The staff was great, and they gave me something to take to go."

"I know my mom was very impressed with The Lodge at Cold Spring. They were very nice, and it was kind of a rush job to try and find some place for her to go. They accommodated her, and it was really a nice experience. My mom dealt more with one of the managers, and he was very nice and explained everything. He let my mom and grandma stay in there while her little apartment was being readied. It was very nice. They let them stay there and eat the meals. The dining setup is a big room which looks like a restaurant where you go in and they wait on you. They have little menus on the table, and they'll come and ask what you want. There are some two-bedrooms, one-bedrooms, and what they call a studio, which is one large room. They have refrigerators, sinks, and some cabinets but no stove. It is very nice. They have housekeeping so she doesn't have to worry about vacuuming and all. They have movie nights and bingo. They have poetry classes and fun day evening where one of the managers plays the piano. "My father is 94 and always tells me how well he is taken care of. I know when I can not get there to see him they make sure they he gets out for a walk in good weather. They respect his dignity by keeping his mind occupyied by talking to him about things that interest him, like being in the war and where he grew up. They are very respectful of his feelings. A day doesn't go by that I don't thank God for such a wonderful place. "

"I personally liked Holiday Village Gate of Farmington. It was homier than the other place. The people were friendly. The man that gave us the tour was very knowledgeable. Everything he showed us was good. He showed us the rooms, which would be exactly what I would be looking for. They had all the amenities and everything. They said if I needed nursing care or something like that, all I have to do is ask and that's great. I have to go to dialysis three times a week, and there is transportation to take me, and that's a big thing. The gentleman did offer us a box of snacks if we wanted to take any. They have a stream in the back and you can sit on the porch where they have rocking chairs sitting out looking over the land. I only met the man that gave us the tour and he was excellent. He told us everything that needed to be told."

"My mother moved into evergreen woods last year. It was the best move she’s made in years. Everyone there is very friendly and respectful. Even though she hasn’t been there very long, the employees are almost like family. I would highly recommend Evergreen Woods to anyone looking for a great place to retire to. Sincerely, Glenn Batter"

"My mother was very happy with Tower One; it’s just that their waiting list is kind of too long. I thought that it was really decent, and my mother was happy with it so I was pretty much happy with it. My mother has a sister here, and that’s why she likes it here. There are a number of activities you can do there. They have a little church, sometimes there’s bands, plays, and movies. "

"I was very impressed with this facility. From the secretary to the President (who was very visible and accessible) my Grandmother, the residents and all visitors were treated with such respect and kindness. I very much looked forward to my visits and my Grandmother loved being here because she met so many great friends. There were also always activities going on throughout the day such as games of chess, trips to local shops and weekly movie nights. I also really enjoyed the food. It was served in a fine dining room where the waitstaff wore tuxedo shirts and bow ties and the food was very high quality. If there ever were any issues the waitstaff, hostess and manager would all make themselves visible and would accomodate any special requests. It was an expensive facility, but it provides you with so many great opportunities and experiences. There is a pool, library, store, bank and even a hair salon all on the premises. There is also a health-care unit which is staffed with many able nurses. This was an empowering community for my Grandmother and I am so glad that she was able to stay here and that I had the privilege of spending time with her and all the wonderful staff. "

"We like Masonicare at Ashlar Village. My father stayed there for two weeks. It's very organized and very clean. The people are wonderful. Everybody comes up to you and introduces themselves. The nurses and the director knew exactly what was going on. If they didn't, they'd find out. The aides were great. My father had somebody stay with him 24/7 named Sam; he was awesome. They took care of his meds. It was very clean, and it was like a hotel. My father had one bedroom with a bathroom with all these handicap things. He had a little kitchen area combined with the living room, sitting area, and three nice-sized closets. They had a ton of activities; unfortunately, he wasn't well enough to go. They do have a ton of activities every day. They have ice cream sundae days, floaties days, singing, and some entertainment on the weekends."

"My mother is currently in Crosby Commons at Wesley Village. She has been there for five and a half years now. I would give everything an A-plus there. It's a lovely community. The people are very friendly and willing to help. It's immaculately kept. The rooms for the residents are lovely. The grounds are like a country club, so there's lots of room for the residents to go out for walks, and there are sidewalks, fountains, and gazebos. She's had a very positive experience there. They have lots of daily activities to keep them engaged. They have trips in the community, and they bring in people. There's always something going on. They're not just sitting around. The only negative comment about the place is the food. I find that the food selections are very unhealthy. It's high fat, high cholesterol, and high sodium. And for the people who are living in an assisted living facility, most of them at this stage in their lives probably have diabetes or heart conditions, et cetera, and I just don't find that suitable, and certainly not for my mother, so that's an issue right now. Even though they say in their brochure they can accommodate the dietary restrictions of people, and the reality is they can't. That's why I'm looking elsewhere to someplace that can because it's negatively affecting her health right now. Because maybe they don't have an onsite dietitian in that building or somebody who could plan healthier menus, I'm not happy with the food. They do get their meals, but I'm very disappointed with the quality of the food. The overall experience there has been very positive. I think the value for money is comparable to others, so I think it's very good."
