Nursing Home Communities in East Haven, CT

"My nephew is in ARK Healthcare and Rehabilitation at Branford Hills. We've been very happy with them. I find the care to be consistent, and he's gotten so much better since he's been there. There's no such thing as a great nursing home, but it's good. Some of the nursing assistants change so frequently, but I think that's just very typical in these types of places. He'd have somebody who was just excellent, and then they go somewhere else, same with physical therapy. The staff is just kind of changing. They have good recreation. Every day, he has something to go to, so that he's not just in his room doing nothing. He's clean, he's fed, he's OK. He loves the food. The facility right now is going through renovation, and the renovation is great. It's looking so much better. It's clean. I like it. I'd give the activities a five. It's just wonderful. They have really great musicians come in. They have different types of games to get people thinking. They have an exercise class or balloon volleyball, stuff like that. I'm very happy with the recreation. He got in there because he was able to get Medicaid, so we don't have to pay anything. His Social Security and Medicaid pay for the whole thing."

"My partner stayed at RegalCare at New Haven, but it was a terrible place. It was supposed to be for rehab for him to walk, but then when he got there, they never gave him any rehab. First night there, I said to them, "Give me some towels. I'll bathe him for you," and they looked at me like I had three heads and said to me, "We have no towels right now," and I was like, "Excuse me?" then they said, "All we can give you is a bath blanket to dry him with." She gave me this bath blanket. I went into the shower room and there were pampers all over. It's showing that it wasn't cleaned after each patient, and it was terrible. I came every day and the next day, I found my partner sitting in a corner drooling on himself so he was soaking wet. I said no, and I can't leave him there. They had him mixed up with everybody, and it wasn't a safe spot for confused people like him. They had a blind man, and they put his food in front of him and he ate it like a dog. They don’t have the facility to take care of people with dementia or lost memories. Some of the staff members were very kind and concerned and they knew right from wrong, and there were some that didn't care or were too busy. The food was terrible though. The facilities were smelly, which I understand, but the dining area where people come in and eat had cloth seats on them, and if they peed on the seat, it was not cleaned, but instead a blue pad was put on top of it so the next person could sit on it. They should have seats that can be wiped down every day. I was overwhelmed, so I leave the place crying every day because I was leaving him behind."

"My mom is at Mary Wade Home for over a year and they treat her very well. The food is good so I really don't have any complaints. The facility is very clean and all the staff that is working on the floor where she is knows my mother. I have never heard of unkind words. I see them treating other residents with the outmost respect. They are very, very kind. "

"The staff at Advanced Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation are just wonderful. They don't just help you because they have to, they help you because they want to."

"I would definitely recommend this live in rehab to anyone who needs it! My grandma was back on her feet in no time. The first time she was there, it was for 6 months, and we are actually looking to get her to stay there permanently. The nurses are on top of things and are all so nice! Meals were always brought on time, whenever she needed anything it the nurse was there at attention. Therapy goes on everyday, a hairstylist comes in and does their hair weekly, and they have activities any elderly person would like! "

"Different people I knew worked there at Bentley Gardens. It was a good tour. Their food was good, and the dining area is excellent. They have all kinds of stuff for activities. The rooms are good. The facility is secured enough for the residents. "

"We liked the apartments at Whitney Center, but it was too expensive for us. It looked good, and we would have been satisfied if we could afford it. "

"With one parent in the Health Center and another in their apartment, I have a broad persepective on the health care and social services at Evergreen Woods. The Health Center (nursing home) is simply outstanding. I had this impression before COVID-19, with nurses, physicians, aides, dietary workers, physical therapists, and recreation professionals who provide excellent care with compassion. Furthermore, Health Center staff has gone above and beyond to help families remain in touch with our loved ones in the Health Center, whom we cannot see during the pandemic. Outside of the Health Center, EW has provided extra services to residents living in their own apartments during the pandemic to help them remain safe and deal with the strains of social - such as food delivery, tech support, and even plant pickups from nearby nurseries. Transportation, concierge, engineering, dining staff, health care aides, RN staff - all know and care about my parents. Finally, in addition to managing in a pandemic, Blair, the ED, has done an extraordinary job of communicating with families throug this crisis. "

"The facility is older, and looks as such in outward appearance. However, upon leaving your car to enter, one walks through a nicely landscaped patio area which is often a popular spot for residents. The facility is very clean, well-staffed, and there is always a staff member close by and willing (and more importantly, able) to help with anything. The food, from what my grandmother has told me, is much better than the previous assisted living facility she stayed at. Anytime there is an accident of any sort, be it a small fall or something very minor, a prompt call is always received. Small things are done to help make the resident feel more comfortable and at home. Overall, the care is very good and the staff is very concerned with the well-being of the residents. I recommend this facility without reservation and believe that it is one of the better facilities available. "

"The room that my husband is in is very nice but the bathroom sometimes smells, I know that his room does get clean. The nursing staff are very nice for the ones that I have met. The staff checks on the clients to make sure that they are well taken care of, I will admit some of the residents gives them a hard way to go sometimes but never the less the staff are kind."

"My mother was at The Willows for eight months for long-term care, and she received very good care there. This was before COVID and so I used to go there every day and was able to observe them. They were very kind, caring, and worked very hard for their residents. Most of them had to be taken back and forth to the bathroom, and they were just a spot on every day. My mother had one particular aide and she was just wonderful. She took care of her every day and was very good at it. I would give them a good grade. She liked the food as well and as she progressed, she wound up getting mostly ground and soft foods, and she was able to enjoy it. They met my needs and they were very good at responding to anything I asked for. We were very comfortable having her there. The facility was very clean. Their OT and physical therapy were excellent all day long, seven days a week. They always provided some sort of activity. When my mother was able to, she did them, but because of her health, that kind of slowed down for her. It's a lot of money for a nursing home, but their prices were no different than any others in the area."

"The Guilford House is a model of what all other Rehab/Skilled Nursing facilities should strive to be. It is, by far, the best on the Shoreline. This is a private husband and wife owned facility and everything is top notch--the staff, the decor, the food and the physical facility itself. The level of care from the CNAs, RNs, PT, OT, and onsite physicians is unsurpassed. This place is where all families should begin their search if rehab or skilled nursing is needed. If I could rate it ten stars, I would. "

"The rooms are spacious and clean. The nursing staff is attentive and caring. Physical Therapy team is professional and work diligently to meet the goals of each patient. The kitchen staff work nicely together to prepare good home cooked meals and serve the residents with care. Activities are always in place for residents. Overall a great facility with approachable administration and nursing staff."
