"We toured Avery Heights. Everybody in there didn't need any assistance as far as I could see, but it was very nice, comfortable, and pleasant. The staff was very pleasant and informative. They seemed to care about their community. The place was beautiful and very clean. My husband and I both said to the person who was giving us the tour that this is the place where we would like to live. They showed us the menu. The residents have a choice of what they want to eat, and it was prepared by a chef there on the scene. Their dining area was like an upscale restaurant. They even had a movie theater."

"We're in Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks. This is our second year here. It's very easy to get to. It's right off the highway and that makes it easy for our son. I think we finally figured out the reason we're paying so much money is because we're helping to offset the nursing costs for people who need that. And since we don't need it, it doesn't seem fair. When we wanted to move, they only had certain units available, so we moved into one of the more expensive ones because I knew it would probably work out fine. I pretty much knew when we moved in that we would have to move out because their pricing structure is on the high side. The staff goes out of their way to make everything work as best as they can no matter what's going on. They have some challenges. The facilities are generally good, but there are times when things are not cleaned up appropriately. With regards to services, even though we have not needed those services, I question how they do that. It doesn't seem like I would be comfortable accessing those services because they don't look like they're done consistently. The atmosphere is generally nice, and people are getting involved in activities, so it's a friendly atmosphere. They have quite a variety of rooms here, too. I will credit that you can get something as small as a studio and up to a two-bedroom deluxe."

"Mom is getting excellent care at Emeritus at South Windsor. I know that they have plenty of activities, but at the level my mom is at right now, I don’t think she participates in them. They have a wonderful staff and I think they pretty much follow up all the way around as much as they can. "

"The facility that I'm most interested in and that I just visited was in Connecticut, and that's called The Cottage at Litchfield Hills in Torrington. I'm pretty impressed by them to the point where I'm going to take my mom back for an assessment. If I could, I'd take the next step up. They seem to be very clean, and very attentive, and it felt like a family atmosphere that's why I kind of liked it. I did not try any food but I saw a sample menu. Because of the rise in COVID, they were kind of feeding their people in their own spaces so I didn't get to see the food. I was told it was more like fresh farm-to-table food. It's assisted living and their food is served more home-style. We saw the assisted care during our tour and we're going to go for an evaluation this coming Monday to see what they feel she would need. "

"We liked it a lot. I think if my mother decides to go to an assisted living facility, it will probably be this one. I thought the dining room was very pleasant. We saw a one-bedroom and a studio apartment. Both of them were empty, so we were trying to figure out what it would look like with furniture. I think they were on the small side, but they seemed very adequate. "

"Old Glory Days was wonderful. It was beautiful. It was very clean. I liked it because it was open. I didn't like it because there were a lot of stairs. They were very expensive, too. The staff was very down-to-earth and neat. It's a converted old house. I wouldn't recommend it unless you lived in town, and if you had a lot of money and you were by yourself. I don't think it was good for a couple. It was very well put together. It was nicely painted inside."

"All American Assisted Living looked like it would be a very nice place. It was just a little bit expensive. They've got all the conveniences there. They have their own medical staff and your personal grooming is all taken care of right there. The rooms were very nice. They were fairly roomy. Their dining area was very clean and spacious. The staff was very informative. The building is approximately two years old."

"Colebrook Village at Hebron was very nice. We had lunch there, which was just soup and a sandwich. The people were very friendly and very nice. There were many people who were using such devices, so that turned me off a little bit. But the facility was lovely, and the accommodations were lovely. The other thing I like about Colebrook is that they have a lot of people there that I know. So I wouldn't be going into a place without knowing anyone. So that was a plus. It was friendly and very accessible. There are some walking trails, and it is very near to my primary doctor, CVS, and a supermarket, and that's a plus. The person who works there brought me meals from Colebrook, and the food is very, very good."

"It was brand new. The interior was very contemporary, and it was beautiful, but for a seventy-five-year-old -- my mom -- it was too institutional, and she was very uncomfortable with how gray it was. It looked cold and institutional to her. It was all in one building so they gave us information on all of the levels of care there. I thought the staff was wonderful; I liked them a lot. The rooms were beautiful, too. I really thought the facility was beautiful, but that's not what she thought. She thought the room was beautiful, but she didn't like the coloring. I think we're dealing with differences in age group here, and I'm not the one who's going to live there. I thought it was in a beautiful area. They had a movie theater, although it wasn't as big as the one I saw in another facility. They had a billiards room, an arts-and-crafts room, and I thought it was beautiful."

"We were able to visit. The place was beautiful and it's large, which is both a pro and a con for elderly people. The place was gorgeous with lots of community rooms, and they're spread out a lot, which I think is one of the downfalls there. The activities were spread throughout the building instead of being more centralized, which was the thing that deterred us because my mother might struggle and get lost. The rooms were very nice and well-equipped, and the staff was all friendly and willing to accommodate requests or needs. They had a very nice menu with lots of options like specials per se, and then there's a regular everyday menu."

"My 89 year old mother has lived at Middlewoods of Farmington for 6 months and it has been the BEST choice for my mom. I can't say enough wonderful things about Middlewoods! The staff is caring and friendly. The residents are friendly and nice. My mom was living alone and now she is in a safe, caring environment with socialization. Covid has been challenging everywhere, but Middlewoods has handled it exceptionally well. They have been creative about providing activities during this time. By the way, my mom really likes the food here too. I spent a long time searching for the right place for my mom and when I talked to Ginny and visited Middlewoods I knew immediately that it was a homey, friendly community. And it has proved to be that and more. It has been a home run for my mom and our family!"
