"St. Pauls Health Care Center has a caring group of people. They have a beauty parlor, they do their nails, and they give a lot attention to the person so it's pretty nice. They take them on outings during the day for day trips, and they have a game room and all sorts of activities inside the facility so they're pretty involved. "

"My mother is in Balboa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. The care has been excellent. They need more staff, but they're doing what they can do. The place has been amazing, and she has been on and off in there, and they're wonderful. I'm pleasantly surprised with the food. Her room is very clean. They have activities, but she's not interested in them. I have no problems with this place. They provide physical and occupational therapy. I've only been in the therapy room a couple of times, but it seems very equipped and clean. The therapists are very polite and they keep me very much informed. She always has fresh linen. She has a TV in her room and a telephone. Food's brought in to her if needed. I've been very pleased. They're like family. They've been amazing."

"My sister was here after she suffered a mild brain injury. She came to this facility on a ventilator and with several other issues. Within a month of her stay the team was able to remove the ventilator and get her back on her feet. I attribute her success to the long term caring staff that looked after her and helped her reach her maximum potential. "

"I put my husband at Mission Hills. The nurses there are very good at taking care of patients. Excellent! The nurses are fantastic. They are all working everyday with patients. They knew what's going on with patients, and that's fantastic. I love Mission Hills. However, I'm not happy with the food. "

"Hillcrest Residential Care is awesome. They have two caregivers per six people. They also have a registered nurse that helps with the administration of the medication. It's very nice and very clean. My mother is bedridden, so they get her up and out of bed every day into the front room where there is social time. They prepare their food, wash them, clean them, feed them, medicate them, get them up and out, and help them get dressed. It's a residential home. The cooking is all done there, but they kind of overcook the meat. It's Filipino style, which is absolutely phenomenal, but my mother is picky."

"Overall, I was very happy with how my relative was treated. She was happy with the food served, and had plenty of activities to participate in. The staff were friendly and pleasant, and always greeted me with a smile. The bathrooms and showers were well designed for an elderly person, such as they were easy to get in and out of. Some of the activities/entertainment provided for the folks staying their included bingo, shuffleboard, knitting, a library/reading room, and karaoke. The staff regularly phoned me whenever my relative was sick to inform me of any new or current status. I especially appreciated this service at a time when she came down with pneumonia. On top of all this, they provided regular church services for the faithful. I was very happy with the care that took place, and recommended the convalescent home to an aging neighbor of mine, who has also been very happy there. In closing, they certainly treat the elderly with dignity. "

"I can't say enough about this facility. They treated my 102 year old mother with such compassion and dignity. Everyone from administration, nursing, nutrition, activities, and therapy were exceptional. The therapists were incredible and were instrumental in getting her back to her independent daily life. Thank you to the whole staff at Paradise Valley Manor."

"I moved my mom to Brighton Place. I liked their customer service much better, and the people seemed to be more caring. It’s an older building, but it is clean, and the nursing staff is more attentive. "

"Arroyo Vista is a large and modern nursing facility which offers great service at a stunning price. My grand mother was in this nursing home for a few months after a surgery and her experience was flawless. My grandmother was bed ridden for about a week, but her personal staff of two nurses helped her with her every need. The room she was in had a large television with a large dresser, she had her own bathroom and balcony to enjoy the great San Diego weather. The dining hall was nice and served hearty and warming meals that everyone in the facility seemed to enjoy. My grandmother loved the library and the personal gym which helped her with her physical therapy after the surgery. Overall it is a quality facility and is great for elderly care. I liked it so much i felt like ordering a room myself the service, and the food was so good. In addition the front desk admins are very helpful and even called both me and my mom on days that we could not make it to see my grandmother which made it feel very personal and like she had been left in the right hands. Great place for care and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for this type of care. "

"I went to visit this nursing home because I wanted to deliever some smiles to senior community. Whether it be making them laugh or just sitting there listening to their stories, I feel it is important to not to ignore the elderly. Collingwood Manor resides in beautiful Chula Vista, California and it is a great place. The room are nice and homely, the seniors are served three meals a day, and the great San Diego weather allows great leisure time. I love how the staff are friendly, professional, and compassionate. The one draw back is the home is near a pretty busy street, and I would hope safety of the residents is a top priority. "

"My sister is in the independent living facility of Fredericka Manor for 3-4 yrs already while my brother in law was in the nursing home before he passed away. They took good care of him. It was also a nice facility. I visited my sister in the independent living facility twice. The facility is in a nice area and it's accessible. It's very attractive too. They have cottages that guests can rent. I stayed in the guest apartment, it was great. My sister said the food is good but I haven't tried it. If you're on the rooftop, you can see the Pacific Ocean. "

"Reo Vista Healthcare Center was pretty good. My brother liked being there a lot. One of my concerns, though, was that they have people going out from the entrance of the door and sometimes I feel like people could smash their fingers or their hands by opening those doors. They should have somebody that will assist them in opening the front door because they go out just to see the view. The first time my brother was in a room, one of my sisters found out that that room had mold. So she spoke with the director, making concerns about that room and they changed it. Their maintenance was good. I think it's a decent and clean place. I know they were remodeling stuff, which looks good. I also like that every time they will have lunch, they will put on a tablecloth and they will bring the food to the patients. Anything that they needed, they were there for the patients to bring them coffee, tea, or even ice cream or Jell-O, which I thought was a good service. My brother liked their bingo and lottery. He was so active on their stuff. He will go to the lunch area where they have the dinner place and where they do different activities. That's what I specifically liked, that they had a lot of activities. The staff just needs a little bit more training."

"I was very impressed with University Care Center in San Diego. They had a very nice facility with professional Cali-style landscaping, and a very clean interior with a welcoming atmosphere that was nothing like a "typical nursing home." They were located right next to a hospital, and were within walking distance of a very large park where the elderly could go sit with their visitors. My client had everything nice to say about this facility, from the food to the staff to his treatment - which is the most important part. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in the San Diego area. "

"My mother is in LifeHOUSE San Diego Healthcare Center. It seems like it's an acceptable, OK place. It’s a big place with 300 beds. When you first come in, it's very impressive, and they clean the rooms every day. Some days it smells OK and some days it smells like urine, but it really depends on which part of the facility you are in. It's a pretty clean place overall. The staff is knowledgeable, and if you have a complaint or concern, they're pretty receptive, which is good. "

"One of us heard a doctor say that, "If I had to go to a convalescent hospital, this is the one I would choose." The nurses do treat those they care for with dignity and respect and care. They deserve gold medals. The patient who can speak and ambulate in a wheelchair can be happy here. I believe, for those who have difficulty speaking and ambulating, due to stroke, more is needed. In some cases, the sleeping quarters are quite narrow and small. Help to the bathroom is not available and diapers must be worn by the patient I know. It is my impression, that despite the good will, loving hearts and so on of the staff, some patients who are not lively and able to speak and get around, will feel left behind and left out. A CNA hired to give perhaps a full day or partial day's one-on-one care would be desirable to assist in that case. I would like to see a larger area for visitation and perhaps a walk-in bathtub for the residents. The bathing facilities look ancient and drab. Perhaps the patio could be enclosed or screened and made into a "sun room" with less wind and patients could enjoy benefits of Vitamin D from sunshine. I know so little about what could be done. The hallways are a little crowded for the wheelchairs. Dining room always stinks. "

"I had an in-person tour of the Abby Gardens, and it was a good tour. For long-term care, it seemed pretty good. I just felt it was for someone who needed much more care than my mom needed. It's very sterile. They have two beds in the room. The facility was very clean. They had lots of activities scheduled. It's a great location. All the people there were very nice. I would suggest it for long-term care for somebody with dementia and those kinds of issues. The staff was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and was very helpful."

"I'm in the nursing facility of La Mesa Healthcare Center. The facility is nice and clean, and the CNAs are all great. The physical therapy area here is fantastic. The least I like about this place is the food. The breakfasts are always good, but the lunches or dinners are sometimes hit or miss. They have an activities department, and they do a lot. They have the usual, like bingo, and we celebrate monthly birthdays. We just got a new director, and we just started gardening. We have music, entertainment, and parties like a luau. Yesterday we also had a farmers' market where we had a bunch of different fruits."
