The Best Nursing Home Communities in San Diego County, CA

"My wife was at Poway Healthcare Center. The place was OK, although we had some issues with it. The rooms were adequate, and they have activities like bingo, guitar night, and all kinds of things both local and within the community. They provide three meals a day plus snacks, they do physical and occupational therapy, and they have a gym."

"I used to visit Boulder Creek Post Acute. The community was in different stages, like they have people in different phases, but the activities department there was outstanding. They are very good with the patients there and they are very engaged with the people they are working with, as well as the physical therapists there. There was this one gentleman, I don't really know his name, he was terrific. My cousin's mother-in-law, at one time, she was bedridden, and he would come in and feed her and things. I think that facility was very good with regards to that. In my experience they are very accommodating with the people. The place was clean. It seemed to be properly maintained. Of course these facilities would have a scent to it, because it is a place where they have a lot of sick people. But from my point of view it was pretty good for the type of facility it is. I know that these patients are sometimes very difficult and demanding if they don't get their medications on time. But as far as looking after the patients, they're always coming into the room at the right time, making sure they are fed and bathe. That was one of the things I noticed. Especially with my cousin's mother-in-law. She was not able to get up, but she was clean all the time, and every time she had a problem they always took care of it. I think the facility is very well put together."

"Just last month I found myself very sick and have no one at home to help me. I went straight from the hospital to Remington club. It was a pleasant transition, was placed in a (very Clean room). I was attended to with respect and attention by all that work there. The food was very well prepared and had great choice of items to pick from. All the CN, Cna were pleasant and comforting. I would recommend and if ever needed, would go there again. The Peaceful surroundings are very nice. "

"I had an in-person tour of the Abby Gardens, and it was a good tour. For long-term care, it seemed pretty good. I just felt it was for someone who needed much more care than my mom needed. It's very sterile. They have two beds in the room. The facility was very clean. They had lots of activities scheduled. It's a great location. All the people there were very nice. I would suggest it for long-term care for somebody with dementia and those kinds of issues. The staff was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and was very helpful."

"My father went to La Jolla Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for rehab. I liked their staff the best. They were all very friendly and they attended to my dad's needs. Dad really liked it. Everybody was very caring and open. They listened to what our needs were, and they helped him rehabilitate given his fragile state. They played cornhole and did various games. They would also do karaoke and bingo. I think they do a good job of having the residents engaged. What I liked least about them was that my dad had a catheter and he would pull it out. The overnight nurses, instead of putting it back in, would send him out to the hospital. I know it's overnight; they probably don't wanna do it, but for me to get up at 2:00 in the morning and have to go to the emergency room and have to deal with that was very stressful when I feel like their staff was very capable of doing it themselves. My dad did it in the daytime, and they were able to put it back in, but the overnight staff did not."

"My mother is in LifeHOUSE San Diego Healthcare Center. It seems like it's an acceptable, OK place. It’s a big place with 300 beds. When you first come in, it's very impressive, and they clean the rooms every day. Some days it smells OK and some days it smells like urine, but it really depends on which part of the facility you are in. It's a pretty clean place overall. The staff is knowledgeable, and if you have a complaint or concern, they're pretty receptive, which is good. "

"My husband and I have lived at CASA for over four years and really love the facility. This last year has been very challenging because of Covid19 but they have done a wonderful job of keeping all the residents very safe. The food is wonderful and the residents are very friendly. We love our apartment and never once doubted our move here. The staff is very dedicated to help us out with any issues/problems we may encounter quickly. I would recommend CASA to everyone I know who is looking to move into a facility of this type. It is also a non-profit which helps along with our year-end taxes."

"My mom was at Stanford Court. For that period of her life and her medical circumstances, it was what we needed but I wouldn't like for her to stay there on long-term. Their rooms were like hospital rooms. The staff was excellent though. The activities director, the nurses, and the caregivers were excellent. The food was alright; however, her condition prevented her from really appreciating food. "

"My husband is currently in The Cove at La Jolla (Cloisters of La Jolla) and it is excellent. The place is beautiful and the people are really kind to him. He gets physical therapy 5 times a week. It's so clean and it is a great community. The staff has been very responsive and caring, they're good otherwise he wouldn't be there. My husband is the most picky eater in the entire world, but I think the food there is absolutely fine. The place is being closed because of the corona virus so I haven't visited recently. It smelled so clean all over, there were no smells everywhere. The cost is at around $7000 a month which is outrageous, but it is the best nursing community around here."

"My father was at Country Manor La Mesa. The setting was nice. The staff was about average. He had occupational therapy and physical therapy there. He was also in a respiratory program. It had a nice outdoor area, and the residents could go inside or outside. All of that was fine. They had manicures, pedicures, or haircuts. They had people that come in once a month, and you could sign up on a list to make sure that you get your haircut or whatever when they come in. They had a really good social coordinator. They did lots of things. Every day there'd be one or two different events that would happen there. If you wanted to participate, you could; if not, you didn't have to. He stayed there for three months one time, and then one month another time."

"Nice facility! We have been to a neighbor facility of Parkway Hills and they had all the fancy stuff. Parkway doesnt need that. They know how to care for patient and thats what counts. "

"My younger brother had a medical problem, and he is in Arbor Hills. We have been going to that place a lot. I am mostly very satisfied with the care he has. He has 3 meals a day. He is bedridden, so he needs help with everything. He also has some physical therapy. I think the staff has a really good attitude. They seem to be very busy, very efficient, and very cheerful. Everything is very clean. My only complaint -- and I think my brother will agree -- is that sometimes it is too noisy. Especially when you are not feeling well, he probably will like to have his own room or at least a quieter situation with TV and other patients. I have not tried the food myself, but the menu seems very good. He is on a fruit diet, and he does not complain. He likes food, and he is not picky. I like Arbor Hills. "
