I chose Vi at La Jolla Village. It's total care to the end and I won't have to move. I want to get one spot and stay there till I die. It's independent living but it goes into assisted living in the same facility, same building, and same room. You don't have to move up each place. It's considered a CCRC, which is complete care. There wasn't anything that I disliked about the view from the very first time I entered the building. I fell in love with it. It was refurbished. Everything's new, everything's clean, and everything is eye-appealing. All of their activities are amazing. The staff was amazing. I had lunch there, and the food was superior. They have a gym. They have a pool inside. They have yoga classes, a library, and a movie theater.

Vi at La Jolla Village was a very nice place. They have very friendly people. The only issue there is that it is overlooking a shopping area that is going to be demolished, so there will construction in the area and a lot of noise. I looked at one of the living units, and they only have single-pane windows; the wing of the building that they showed me will be subjected to a lot of noise for the next two years. The staff was very courteous and very nice. It's a very good place. It's a very modern high rise, though. Personally, I don't like high rises because they remind me of hotels where I used to stay in my professional days.

We visited Vi at La Jolla Village. It's a deluxe, high-end facility. We liked the fact that it had all the levels of care included in the initial monthly fee as opposed to some of the facilities where you pay extra for other levels of care. We are looking for something walkable, and it's not very walkable. There's a major shopping center there, but it's very difficult to get into the village from there. That's the principal downside for us. We met the marketing staff, who were very personable and pleasant. We had an excellent meal there. They had two meals a day. The apartments were beautiful. One of the things we wanted was a fireplace, and they didn't have fireplaces, but the apartments were very well done. They modify them each time a new person comes in. They're in beautiful shape, and it's a large facility with 700 units, so they have a lot of services.

I like Vi at La Jolla Village, and they don't make you leave rooms if you go from independent living to extended care. Your monthly rate does not go up; although they have a buy-in fee, and if my friend puts enough down, she gets a major portion of it -- about 80% back -- if one way or the other she leaves. It's probably the nicest place I've ever seen, and it was luxury.

Vi at La Jolla Village was too institutional. The staff was very helpful, and the rooms were both old and newer facilities. The food is adequate, they offer 2 meals a day, and the dining room was attractive. The pricing is probably in line with other places although the buy-in was quite steep and expensive.

Vi is spectacular, but it’s way out of my league. It’s a true life care, and I would recommend it to anybody who has a lot of money.

Vi is a wonderful place, like a 5-star hotel, but the people there were older. It was absolutely gorgeous with beautiful floorplans, but we don’t like to be in a confined area. You’re living like in a hotel and there are people around you all the time. They have everything you would want there, like valet service, ta limousine, and shopping across the street. I saw people painting in an art class. It’s an absolutely outstanding facility, and I think it would be a wonderful place if I’m going on a vacation for a few days.

My dad stayed here after having hip surgery. The staff is wonderful and took very good care of him. Some of the physical therapy people could use and attitude adjustment but still did a good job helping him.

We visited Vi at La Jolla Village. The staff was fine. It was very elegant. They had an indoor pool and a gym. They had a trainer if you want to get specialized training. They had valet parking. They had two high-rise buildings, and it was very closely monitored.

Vi at La Jolla is really top level service. My mother-in-law is in a facility similar to that, so we took a tour, saw one of their apartments, and saw the level of care and what recreational facilities they had. The thing we like about that location is that it is right in the middle of an area in San Diego called UTC, which is a shopping center, and it is very close to the University of California San Diego. You can practically walk there to the shopping malls across the street, where there are movie theaters, bookstores, and lots of things. And then, they also mentioned there's going to be a trolley that goes there and you can take the trolley down to San Diego, but they also have driving services so you can get around within 12 miles, and they have lots of activities. They'll take you to your doctors' appointments for no cost if it is within 12 miles, and there are lots of medical facilities around there -- there is Scripps, the VA, and the UCSD Medical Center. They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but only two of them are included in your monthly due.

At Vi, everything was great. The place was nice; everything was nice. However, it was too expensive to me. The rooms were medium -- not small, but not really big either. They were a decent size.

Vi at La Jolla Village is definitely first-class. The rooms and the dining room are excellent. They have a health facility there where they take care of you as your health deteriorates.

I've chosen a place. It's Vi at La Jolla Village. They seem very nice and very welcoming. The food is very good. The amenities are very nice. There are different sizes of rooms. I have the 850-square feet. Regarding security, they have their own monitoring system. You wear a bracelet or a necklace so they know where you are at all times.

Vi was excellent. I was in a private room there for almost 3 months. A lot of people were in double rooms. The staff was very good. I was cared for by nurses after surgery. I think one of the problems they have is that they are also a teaching hospital. They send a teacher and they work in the facility. That’s a turn off to me because they’re in training. I don’t want to be paying that kind of money to be treated by somebody who’s in school. The food and dining facilities were excellent. They have very good choices. They have a private dining room where you can sit and eat by yourself or eat with others or you can have guests. They also have an excellent therapist. I was happy to be there.

My relative has been at the facility for about 9 years. First in the independent living area and for the last couple of years in the skilled nursing section. Since the management team changed about a year and a half ago, things have steadily worsened. The problems include short staffing at times, improper peri care, unsafe transfers in and out of bed and onto the commode. Linen supplies have been short lately and beds are made without clean linens (happened twice in 2 months). Management has been made aware of these issues but shows no concern about fixing them. Short term residents, rehab only residents, don't experience this full range of issues. But most of the ong-term care residents have experienced poor care more than mangement will acknowledge. Releatives talk to one another and there isn't a single one that has no "war story" to tell. While this place may be one of the star locations, it is not without some major issues.

I visited the Vi at La Jolla Village retirement community last December when I was on christmas vacation in San Diego. My grandparents live here and we went to visit them. It was my first time visiting since they moved there. It is a great place to live. It has a great location in San Diego, with many activities surrounding the place. The staff was very warm and helpful to us. It is cool how this place looks like a hotel, and that is because it used to be one. The layout of the building is very upscale as well. Everything is kept clean and is in order. There are also great amenities that my grand parents love. They also have great dining here, I was lucky enough to get to eat a few of their meals. It seems like it would be a great place to retire. I would recommend!

This is a decent, comfortable facility. It has a hotel feel to it. The individual rooms come fully furnished. There are different floorplan options depending on a residents need for space. The one that my grandparent chose is a one bedroom. They have their own privacy, but they can host guests if they want. The living room is spacious; it easily fits a couch set, a coffee table, and a TV. There is also an emergency button that gets access to 24-hour staff, just in case an emergency happens. There are also regularly scheduled times where staff will come and clean the place. Additional services (i.e. changing clothes, medication regulation, etc.) can also be arranged. There is a nice community feel. Most residents are retirement age. There is a wellness center, where residents can exercise by themselves or join classes. There is also an on-site physician and an exercise center. There is also a pool. If my grandparents don't want to swim, they can also visit the library. There is a range of books to choose from. There are also gardens and nice walkways, where my grandparents can go outside and take a walk. If they get hungry, there is a cafeteria that serves customized meals. For my grandparents, who both have dietary restrictions because of their diabetes and high blood pressure, this is a very helpful service. If they need to visit the surrounding areas, there is free public transportation to the nearby grocery stores, hospitals, banks, etc. It could't be any more convenient.

The amenities were fantastic. All of the staff were extremely freindly. I was impressed at caring and thoughtfulness of the staff. The food services that are offered were very top notched. The location is just perfect. I had a hard time finding a good place in San Diego that I would feel comfortable with and trust that my family member would be safe and comfortable. I am scared about losing my loved one but at least I have found a place that will offer a secure environment.

This particular assisted living home really stood out to me for this reason: it used to be a Hyatt hotel! Because of this, the facilities are very nice; everything is very clean, well kept, and very fancy. The only thing I do not like is that because it used to be a hotel, its not very open and has low ceilings and rows and rows of rooms. It can sometimes seem like a prison. However, the food is absolutely wonderful and the staff and caretakers are very, very friendly. They take care to make sure your stay is pleasant and comfortable. Their lounge is gorgeous and they allow their residents to freely roam about the home, which I think is very nice. It gives them more freedom, which I think is good for their health. I also like that the elevators are easily accessible, so that my grandmother is more free to travel around the home independently. Overall, I give this home a 4/5.

This is a nice facility. My grandfather stays in a one bedroom place. The amenities are nice, equivalent to what one would get at a good hotel: TV, bathroom, kitchen, thermostat, etc. There's also a security button that help grandpa feel safe and protected; he can push the button anytime he need help. All the housekeeping - changing of linens, vaccuum, and trash - are taken care of. For a fee, they also help do all of grandpa's laundry. For food, the site has its very own chef. Because my grandfather is diabetic, he needs to be careful. It was good to know that the chef could accommodate my grandparents' special needs. Because he is diabetic, I remind grandpa to stay on top of things by exercise. When he has enough energy, grandpa will be at the gym using the treadmill and lifting weights. Outside the gym, there's also a pool area. Since its summer and the temperature is warm, grandpa likes to go for a swim. Overall, this is a great facility.

This is a community for those in their Sunset years that I found myself wanting to place a deposit down for when my time comes. They have not missed one area of design of plan for all needs. Retirees here will not have need for anything. If they need something, this place will have it. From the moment you walk into the door you are greeted by a warm, friendly staff member who leaves you feeling as if you're the only person in the world. This place has everything you could imagine for pleasure and fun to an Urgent Care Clinic on site where the Doc comes daily. The apartments are beautiful and you can bring your own belongings or they will furnish for you. They have some many activities and events you will be tired looking at the Calendar. They have several towers and they all are staffed 24/7 with heavy security patrolling 24/7. You need not leave for anything all is here. I will be seeking this place out for myself when that time comes. Mean while give them a call for a tour. You will feel the way I do once you visit.

I was very impressed by this facility. It was a Hyatt hotel before it was turned into an elderly-care / assisted living home, which most definitely steps it up a few notches above any type of nursing home. Although the food for my client was called a "therapeutic diet" - it looked more like an extravagant restaurant meal. They brought up a huge plate of food for lunch with tea and water for my client to drink. It smelled amazing, and my client said that it tasted fabulous, and always did. The only thing that I could mention about this facility is that more handicapped accessible tubs and showers should be used so that the client wouldn't have trouble getting in and out of the bath. Other than that, it was amazing.

Vi is almost like a resort, but better. Three square meals and activities are everywhere for the residents. The staff is absolutely the best, remembering my grandma's name and everything as soon as I give my last name. Elevators are a bit slow but that's easliy explainable because of the varied mobility of the residents. It took a stroke for my headstrong gramma to realize she needed assisted living but Vi could not have been a better place for her. On top of all of this, the location is phenomenal, with Costa Verde square right next door with food and salons within reach. All in all, one of the best assisted living/retirement facilities I've ever seen or heard of. If you have the money or pension to afford it, it is worth every penny.

Very nice decorations, dining is elegant, the caretakers/caregivers seem nice. The actual rooms look a bit shabby(grease spot on floor), but there is cable TV, nice waterfall in front of building, reserved parking, (3 levels of garage, very elegant bar lounge. Also, the people's attitudes are nice, though the dining service was a bit slow(I had a salmon salad).

I cannot thank the staff of the Hyatt enough! My father was admitted following a health crises in his home. My sister and I were very concerned about placing him in a facility. He has always been stubborn and very independant, and we were concerned that he would not participate in therapy so that he could go back home. The Rehab staff were wonderful, they were so patient and worked with him so that he could get back to his second story apartment. The Nursing staff were very attentive and answered all of my father's questions. The food was top notch- I think he ate better during his stay, then he does at home. Hats off to the Hyatt!!!

Beautiful facility and clean. That is why I'm giving this place any stars at all. My mother was admitted (she's 91)after a pelvic fracture. She was there for 3 weeks. In those three weeks, she was injured during rehab and left weaker and unable to walk, so I would make sure you attend your parent's/loved ones while they are receiving treatment. Their worst problem is staff inter-communication. I can't count the number of requests I made that were not attended to. From receiving her paperwork for her sessions (I have her POA, but was denied and denied and denied), to her release that didn't include a doctor's prescription and release for all of her medications. At one point, we were almost unable to get her into her assisted living facility because it's ILLEGAL to do that. They are understaffed, of that there is no doubt, but it is unacceptable communication with the patient and families and caused more headaches than you can imagine. Feel free to contact me with any questions (abff0890@yahoo.com). Thank you.
