"It is in the city. It's not like there's a forest or anything to go walk around in. It's nice, and the people there were really friendly. They have all levels of care including assisted living. They gave me a general tour of the common areas and showed me around. They were all telling me to go live there. I wondered if they were getting paid extra because as I walked through an area, they were enthused about the place. So I thought that was kind of funny that they're like advertising for the place. The lady that came and picked me up was very nice. I think it's a great location."

"I did a tour of Redwood Terrace, and I was really concerned about the price. It's $15,000 a month. It was too spread out, and the parking was a problem. All those things matter to me because I'm there a lot with my dad. The apartments were very nice, and everything seemed clean. It was just too spread out for me for my dad. I think they would probably take very good care of them. We saw people feeding some of the people that couldn't eat and stuff like that. It looks like they were very caring. The staff I met were great. They had a wonderful physical therapy room, and my dad does require that. They had a lot of staff to take care of the people. It seemed they were pretty well staffed."

"La Costa Glen had everything from villas to apartments. It was a beautiful facility. They had a lovely ground that was well manicured and taken care off. They had the most gorgeous indoor pool. The day that we visited, they were going to have a dance that evening and they had a wonderful little theater where they had popcorn waiting for you outside and movies in the afternoon. They had a full program of activities. Most of the people of I saw, though older, they were independent. However, even though it was a continuing care community, you would have to enter first in their independent unit and you should not be diagnosed with dementia. But I would definitely recommend it to others. "

"I toured Carlsbad by the sea and it was my favorite. The food is excellent, it’s just a lovely place, and it’s right by the ocean. I even signed up for it, but I backed out, because it was very expensive. It had everything. They have an outdoor and indoor pool, a staff member makes an exercise plan for each resident, they have balanced classes and strength classes, and they had a minister who comes every week for a talk. They have a salad bar, you can always have a filet mignon, and a salmon, and they always have three entrees; they’re very flexible."

"Meadowbrook Village had a hobby shop that they said they could make a space for me in there. It's mostly woodworking, but they also had some metal work. It's a very interesting place to me because I'm a tool freak. My daughter was with me going there, and we both liked it. I just object to the big upfront cost, but its continuing care setup is desirable. The facility was OK, although it's spread out. If you lived in some of the places, you'd almost have to have a bicycle or a golf cart to get to lunch. They had a big apartment block with a lot of individual residences that were scattered around. It's like a little town in itself. They also have a waiting list, so you have to put your application in, have it approved, then stand in line for an expected time of six months or more. "
