Independent Living Communities in Carlsbad, CA

"Our Dad had a stroke in early May 2023 and at 94 lost his ability to walk and take care of himself. We live in Encinitas, so wanted him to be close to us. After going to look at several Assisted Living/Independent Living Facilities we were quite surprised to find that Westmont Of Encinitas was far superior than all the others and actually was quite less in cost. The facility is just slightly over two years old and the staff is friendly, food is great and the activities are plentiful. Just in a short 2 months he is walking on his own, living in his great bright 1 bedroom apartment and going to Bridge 3 times a week, going to Ice Cream socials, and exercising and building his strength up with their great Physical Therapists. We brought him down from Costa Mesa to Westmont of Encinitas on May 25, 2023 and he is thriving in such a short time. I would highly recommend Westmont of Encinitas for any loved one. Our father is happy and social and healthy now. This facility is a 5 Stars for sure."

"What we really liked about Arcadia Place was the fact that you could walk out of your own apartment onto a patio, so you felt more like you were in a house that you could walk out of rather than going through a hallway to the main entrance. The staff was very friendly and interested in us as people. It was really a good tour. We liked the structure of the building, we liked the centralized location of activities within the building, and it was very clean. The rooms were a good size. I especially liked the bathroom. It wasn't just kind of a closet bathroom. It was a nice size."

"We went to Belmont Village Cardiff by the Sea. We were very impressed. We made an appointment for the tour and the gal that took us around was excellent. There are no separate areas. If you go into your independent care and then you find that you're going to need memory care, you stay right in there and they bring the memory care people to you. You can get a studio or one-bedroom, or you can even get a two-bedroom. They had a gorgeous swimming pool. The staff sat with us first and went over things, and then she gave us a booklet to bring home to look at more, so she was wonderful."

"I toured Las Villas Del Norte's assisted living, and I thought it was a nice facility. We went out to a huge courtyard, which had two gazebos and a swimming pool. I was kind of drawn back that they had a pool. The place is a little larger, probably the largest of the three facilities I looked at. For the activities, they had a weekly schedule that they posted on the patient's door. The place is kind of big for my brother in a wheelchair, but they said they have people who will help him get around. The person who gave the tour kind of just kick backs, no sales pressure, and was extremely personable. I showed up an hour early because they were done with another tour, and it was only 0.2 miles. He said he was finishing up on the phone call, and then they took me early so I could get the tour done and get back home, so I thought that was nice. I checked the dining area, but it was after mealtime, so I didn't have a chance to eat. They said we could come and sample their food, though. We just have to make another appointment to do that. The room was one of the nicest layouts because it had an apartment-sized refrigerator underneath the counter, and then it had a sink next to it, so there was enough room to put a microwave or a toaster oven. Out of the three places I visited, this one had the nicest layout. The facility was extremely clean. It had what looked like new vinyl flooring, so it didn't have any carpet or anything. They had everything. They even had a chapel that did Catholic and non-denominational services. You could sit in there, and there was an electric organ. It looked like a nice amenity that I didn't see at the other places I looked at. The other places had services, but they were usually in the dining room area."

"I thought Redwood Terrace was amazing. I liked their core values, and I thought it was just great. They had something like cocktails and conversation and it was like they had some snacks, beverages, cocktails, and mocktails and whatnot. The coordinator was the one who assisted me with the tour. She was talking to so many people and she just took the time for everybody. She was pretty thorough and quick, but she took the time to show us an available unit. The apartments were like cute little bungalows, and that's what they called it. They had a courtyard and they offered haircuts and manicures once a month. Their core value was that when you buy into a bungalow or a unit, they had some kind of fund that if you outlived your money, you would not get kicked to the curb. I was amazed by that. It was reasonably priced, but then everybody would pay into that fund. They called it the Benevolent Fund. They had some hors d'oeuvres and cocktails when we were there, and my dad tried the cocktails."

"We chose Splendor Valley for my mother. They'll do anything she wants to do. They take really good care of her. I've gone to see her several times, and I've been very happy with it. This is a small house with, I think, 6 people. And they have caretakers and the owners, Mark and Marissa, live on-site. So, there's always a lot of people around. They get her dressed and she goes and sits in the family room combination kitchen. She always gets to watch people, which is what she likes. Other people have families come and go, and she just gets to see everything. They get her up, they help her shower and get dressed. They give her her meals and her medication. They do everything for her. The place is very, very nice. They have a gazebo where she can go outside. And if she has guests, you can sit outside with her. I looked at a lot of places, and this is by far the nicest. She just has a small room. It does have a door that she can open out to the gazebo, which is very nice. She has her La-Z-Boy chair and her hospital bed. She has her large TV, but she likes to go watch TV out in the family room. There's another lady that sits out there and watches TV with her."

"I toured Westmont of Escondido. They were pretty much all-inclusive as far as my needs were. I liked all their facilities. It was well taken care of. The man I spoke with mentioned that a lot of the staff have been there for a long time, and that's good, too."

"Westmont of Carmel Valley is a place that I would want to retire to. It is beautiful. It looks very open. It had a lot of beautiful outdoor space. I wanted to sit down and go knit with some of the women who were there. The different places to eat at looked lovely and open. It's a beautiful place where you could just retire and spend your days. It feels more kind of a resort. I liked their bar/bistro area where you could just sit for the day with a drink or a snack. It was big and bright. The downside was the price, because you have to pay for that beauty, and it's definitely on the high end, but if you had the money, that would be a wonderful place for you to go."

"I toured Holiday The Springs of Escondido. They were a little bit more up-to-date. I like their facility. The young lady who toured with me was very nice. However, the parking was not good."

"I like that Oakmont of Escondido Hills had wide open spaces. They had a lot of interactive programs going on with large groups. And it's well planned and managed."

"I toured Silvergate Rancho Bernardo. It was the priciest of them all. They had really pleasant accommodations, and it's very well kept up. The staff was attentive. And from what I could see, they had a good ratio of staff to clients that were using the services. And there were plenty of recreation options that would be self-motivated. They had a lot of services like a salon, nail care, and cafeterias in multiple locations. It was pretty elaborate. The staff members were professional. The food was excellent, too."

"Words cannot express how grateful we are for everyone at Rancho Penasquitos Senior Living! I mean EVERYONE!! From the executive director, memory care director, finance manager, the wonderful lady at the reception desk, ALL of the caregivers and med techs, TRULY care about my mum. We were so nervous about sending mum to memory care, but she needed 24/7 care that we could not provide because my husband and I both work full time. My worries were eased within the first few days because mum feels right at home here. The memory care director and staff pivoted so quickly to adapt to mums unique needs and picky eating. Saying thank you isn’t enough to express how all of the staff are simply amazing at what they do and they do it with love and care, which is evident! The staff have become like a second family and we communicate often which is a huge plus. We are so blessed to have mum live here and we are beyond grateful to all of you for taking such great care of my mum."

"I visited. They gave me a lot of information. They were very nice. I didn't try any of the food, but I did see it and it looked good. The rooms were decent. There was no smell. They were clean. I saw a salon, swimming lessons, an art studio, a place where they held bingo and stuff, and a game room."

"Everything was fine at Belmont Village Sabre Springs. The esthetics were really good as far as being a pleasant environment for anyone to live in. They had plenty of activities and nice rooms. The staff ratio seemed to be good. There were a lot of different areas where you wouldn't feel like you were in a shoe box all the time. The people who gave the tour were very pleasant."
