"My mom seems happy at Atria Hillcrest. Overall, the staff has been good. They ran out of food when we had guests there and we had paid $15 per person, but they refunded the money when I talked to them. My mom does tai chi, plays cards and Bingo, and takes Spanish classes."

"We have chosen Atria Grand Oaks because of its location. My father has already moved in. There haven't been any concerns. He is enjoying his time there. The staff members have been really helpful. He likes the food too. They have activities, but he hasn't really joined in on them yet. They do games. They have like a gym, and they have movie nights. They have all different options for them. We haven't had any concerns whatsoever so far. It's super clean. I always seem them cleaning. They're always making sure that it's clean and well-kept. Assisted living is expensive, but his needs are being met, and it's a good facility. It's also local to where my family lives, and it's across the street from the shopping center."

"My dad has been a resident of Simi Hills for almost two years. The office staff are all so welcoming, kind, and always helpful. There are so many nice residents and he’s made many friends. I should also mention that the rest of the staff, including the dining room/kitchen staff, housekeepers, and maintenance couldn’t be nicer. The grounds and views are beautiful. There’s a great path for walking which my dad loves and the courtyard is a great place to relax and enjoy some time outside. The recent remodel turned out beautiful and provided a nice updated look. His apartment is the perfect size. He has a nice living area with a small kitchenette and a separate bedroom with a bathroom. My dad really enjoys socializing with friends in the dining room for the three meals they provide daily. There’s plenty of activities and entertainment available. My dad and I both highly recommend Simi Hills!"

"I toured Oakmont of Agoura Hills Independent Living. There were already residents there. The layout was very convenient. They had a lot of facilities there. I shared a luncheon with one of the ladies there, and it was a very pleasant place. They have game rooms, and they have activities of all kinds. It is just a very comfortable and very nice place to retire at some point in time. They have cards, they have other types of games, and they have services that would take you for doctors' appointments and things like that. The staff member who accommodated me was a very pleasant lady, and she did a super good job. She was not pushy because she understood that I was not ready to actually make a move. She was a very pleasant lady who did a fantastic job of showing me around the different areas and things of that nature. The place was very pleasant. They had all the needs that a stationary person would want to have enjoyment, pleasure, and particularly meeting other people."

"We toured Clearwater at Riverpark. It was very nice and we were very interested in it. The tour was terrific. The person who assisted us with the tour was Roman, and I believe he's the manager of the facility. He was wonderful, and a really lovely man. The apartments were gorgeous, and very well-appointed, from the smallest to the largest. They had granite countertops, big and roomy, very nicely laid out floor plans, nice flooring, and lots of cabinetry in the kitchen. They were very well put together. Each apartment had a balcony or a patio with lovely views, depending on what level you were on. Some faced inside which had a courtyard that was lovely and quiet, others faced the beautiful mountains. That was spectacular, as far as we were concerned. The building was immaculate. The place was beautifully appointed, very clean, and very well maintained. The amenities were very nice and the people were nice. It was an active community. There weren't a bunch of old people waiting around to die. Even if they were older than us, they were active. They were out doing things. All the apartments had full kitchens, washers, and dryers. Those two items were very important to me because I'm not eating all my meals with them. Another really nice thing was their point-system meal plan. They give you X amount of points for the month and you can eat whatever meals you want there. They give you the option of just using your points however you want to use them. If you don't use them, you can roll them over till you reach their maximum limit. The points were enough for you to have two meals a day all month. Their restaurant was lovely, and the food was the best that we had tasted on all the tours. What we had was chef-inspired restaurant food. This wasn't portioned-out cafeteria-style food. This was really nice and well presented, like in a Michelin-star restaurant. This place was outstanding. The thing I would criticize is they make you pay for your parking, which I feel is inappropriate. You should be able to have parking coming into an independent facility. And I will say that their second person fee is too high. Those are my only two criticisms. "

It was very friendly. The size and the layouts of the rooms were comparable to others. They were good. The dining area was very nice, too."

"We have moved my mom into Cypress Place Independent Living. The facility is very bright. It's very friendly, and it has a lot of amenities that are acceptable. The price was very reasonable. The staff truly care, and they're so supportive and responsive to all the needs. They really all are very happy, friendly and caring. It's amazing. My mother is very happy with the food. She's a picky eater, yet she really enjoys what they have there. They have so many activities. There's something almost all day long. They're age appropriate and accessible, and everybody is very encouraging to participate in the activities they have. However, there's carpeting in the bedroom. Other than that, it's very clean. It's very easily accessible. It's very compact, and yet it doesn't feel crowded. It's perfect for somebody who isn't quite as mobile. It's easy for my mom to get to everything."

"I toured all the levels of care offered by The Lexington Assisted Living. I was introduced to several people along the way through the tour and I found them very personable and outgoing. The person giving the tour interacted with the residents by first name as well as with other employees. As we were walking along, she would introduce me to them. So, I found it to be a lively, friendly facility. The facility was great. They had a full range of activities. There's a monthly schedule posted all over the place of what's going on and where it would take place. They have a theater, a game room, a library, a gym, and all kinds of activity areas set up and ready to cater to one's needs."

"My mother has been in Ventura Townehouse for about nine years now. She loves it there, and I'm very impressed with the quality of care that they give everybody. They have a general cafeteria kind of place, but it's beautiful and it's a big dining place. They vary the menu every day. The staff there is fantastic and very caring. They know my mom by name, even though they're pretty young and there's a quick turnover. The young people who work there and the older, more experienced ones take pride in getting to know the residents. My mom has all the help she needs, but it's not invasive. It's not more than she needs. They have all kinds of activities, chair aerobics, games, bingo, and cards. They have all kinds of stuff, and they have special events and concerts there all the time, so it keeps her active. They have like a reward system where if they go to a certain number of activities, then they get what's called a buck, like Monopoly money. If they get 20 bucks, then they can invite a friend to lunch at the cafeteria place, so she's got a stack of those. Anytime we come up to visit, she's like, "Let's go to lunch at our place." She's still independent. Her apartment is lovely, and it's got fantastic storage, much more storage than I have in my condo. She's able to have her own things there. They're great and very easy to get along with. They have beautiful, well-maintained gardens, yards, and landscaping as well. The food is very good. The facilities are great as well. They try to encourage all of their seniors to stay active physically and socially. They also have a van that takes them to mass or church, and it also takes them shopping if they need to go shopping. It takes them all over and picks them up. It's just a well-run establishment. I'm pleased that she's there. She can afford it. It's very expensive, but she's in Ventura, and Ventura is expensive. I would say it's a good value. You get what you pay for, truly. It's not a bargain by any means, but she is getting fantastic quality of care as needed, and you can't put a price on that."

"Home Care of West Hills, LLC #2 was close to where I live and that is good. What I liked about it was that it had just about everything that my wife would need. They're very friendly and they seem to know enough about taking care of old people. They were very nice and informative. They have a little porch in the backyard where they can go out and eat. They also play some games, like card games. There's no exercise or anything like that. Then they have a dining area (one inside and one outside). From what I saw, the facility looked very clean. One of the girls was with a mop and a bucket when I got there."

"Clarendon Senior living is a top-notch facility. We originally had mom in their new Lake Balboa facility, because that is where mom lived. I asked Justin, one of the owners, that if a vacancy opened in one of their Woodland Hills locations to let me know. Three months later, a spot opened up and we made the change. What a blessing, no more wasting hours on the 101 just to see Mom. And the care she gets is amazing. Thanks, guys!"

"My mom moved into Woodland Hills. Everybody is just so sweet there. My mom is like a completely different person now. She's joining in activities. She's so happy. She has things to talk about and friends she's met. It's been wonderful. The staff members are super helpful, like when my mom goes downstairs and asks them for whatever, whether it's hot water for tea or if she wants more dessert, they give her extra stuff to take to her room. They're so sweet to her, and she really likes it. The facility is a bit older, but still very pretty and very clean. They do a lot of fun things. They have a full-time car service that can take you anywhere from Monday through Friday. They have field trips where they go out to Malibu for lunch, which is an additional cost, but that's OK. They have a movie night every night, exercise classes, arts and crafts, and trivia. It's just really fun for my mom."

"I toured AvantGarde Senior Living. The people were very, very nice, but the place is old and needs some updating. It needs a lot of work, but it didn't smell bad. It's kind of rundown, but the people were happy. The dining room was very nice. They have this very thin carpet, it's kind of worn. The rooms need some updating. It needs an overhaul. The staff was amazing. They put up flyers about the activities and different things. When you go in there, they're very nice and very accommodating. They did show me a unit, but I couldn't see myself there only because it needed updating. I think they need to close it, revamp it, and then let people come back in. It's kind of pretty outside, but when you go inside, it's a little depressing. The dining room was decent. The parking lot was okay."
