My mother moved into Oakmont of Valencia. My mother liked it, and so did we. The facility is only three years old, and everything is very well cared for. The dining room is lovely with white tablecloths. My mother's apartment is very nice. Everything about it was quite impressive. They have a very friendly and caring staff. It's assisted living, and my mother is living on her own, but if she doesn't come down for a meal, they check on her. There's a comedian there today, and my mom told someone she hopes she doesn't fall asleep and missed going down. One of the people that worked there said she won't let her, and she'll come up and get her. They do stuff like that all the time. My mother likes the food. She participates in their activities, and she enjoys it. They play bingo and Rummikub. One day a week, they go somewhere where the residents who want to go out would pick, like go to Walmart or go out for lunch. They have a bus that takes them. There are several things they can participate in off-premises if they wish.

I went to Oakmont of Valencia. It was fabulous. The grounds are gorgeous. We got to see everything. We got to meet a resident. The staff was very informative, very friendly, and very helpful. The rooms that he was able to show me, they showed them furnished to kind of give you an idea of how your furniture might fit, even though that's not going to be the furniture that you use, but it just kind of gives you the feeling. Oh, that's what I can put in there. So, I like the fact they were shown furnished even though they let you know that's not your furniture. So, it makes it warmer and more homey than just an empty room. Amenities include game nights and painting classes. We talked about it like they had a luau. They have a petting zoo come in once in a while. There is a special family room you can reserve and have a big family come in to have a family gathering to sit in the dining room. They have a library. They have a theater, and just about everything you would want. It's a cruise ship on land. He took us into the dining room and they were already starting to serve. So I could see a sample of the food that was sitting on the counter. It looked wonderful. And this particular thing they have, they're set dining hours. But then they also have any-time dining where you could go in and order off a different menu any time of the day. We had the opportunity to meet the chef, and I was very impressed by how he talked about his culinary delights and how he likes to change up the menu, so he doesn't serve the same things over and over.

We toured Oakmont of Valencia. We're on the waitlist. What I liked best was the fact that the residents were very active. The person who led the tour was very knowledgeable. I could tell that the other staff members were very engaged with what they were doing. It was very clean and very bright and had a very positive, happy atmosphere. The dining area was very lovely. The space was very open. It's very cheery. It was almost like being in a restaurant. The room sizes and layout were nice.

What made me choose Oakmont of Valencia for my husband is the referrals from other people, as well as seeing it and taking the tour. We liked how they knew the family members of the patients there and how they welcome you. They encourage you to visit them and see what they're doing. They also have the staffing that we need for nursing and everything else. I was very pleased with it. I have spoken with three different individuals for three different matters that they take care of, and every single one of them was a 5. They knew what they were talking about. It was all very, very positive. They offer a lot to keep the patients happy and safe. They do laundry once a week for you. They have a barber shop and a hair salon. They have a nice rec room. They have several restaurants that they can choose to have for the family, if they want to come in and join them. They have a garden if they like to garden, and you can take your dog in there if you have a dog. They try and do what they can to make the person feel welcome.

I placed my mom at the Oakmont of Valencia. It's a brand-new facility, it's a year old, and it's very nice. It's like a hotel, like a JW Marriott; it's the style of the place. It has brand-new grounds, a brand-new building, conveniently located to a coffee shop, a CVS drugstore that's going up next door, a gas station convenience store, and an El Pollo Loco. So, it's like a little mini-mall basically, the way that they designed this building. There's a fast-food restaurant before you enter the building. It's very family-oriented for getting activities done for your family members, like going to the pharmacist, and gassing up the car, that kind of stuff. It's all in one spot, so it's convenient. It has a pretty good-sized parking lot. I will say that this place has more visitors, like families, that come over to this place and take their parents out. I had noticed that there's a lot of visitations, which is a good sign for an elderly place with people coming in. She's in a 385-foot square single apartment that comes with a little kitchenette, a full-size bathroom, and one room, so it's very convenient for her. They have a functioning elevator, a big one, but they have staircases too. It's a two-level building, and on the bottom floor is a locked area of memory care because they have a really good memory care there. If you have anyone that needs memory care, that's probably one of the best facilities to put your parents and loved one in. Right now, because of COVID, I'm going to be very honest that they do need to hire more people, because they're a very busy facility and they need more workers. I'm hoping that they'll get lucky with hiring people because of COVID. They're lacking a lot of employees at that facility right now. The staff is pretty good. It's pretty hard sales, I'm not going to lie. I went through a lot of these homes and it's a real sales game, so I'm not going to lie to anyone that it's the sales pressure game. They seem to have a really good front office staff. The receptionist, a girl there named Samantha, is really amazing, and she listens. I've been dealing with her at the front desk and she's a very amazing employee, like she's been getting the housekeeping up to my mom's room service, and all that kind of stuff. They have people that are compatible with doing the service job correctly. I've tried the food and I will have to say they need to get a little bit more creative on their menu. I've noticed that there's kind of some repetition going on, and it seems also that they need to hire more wait staff and chefs. The service takes a little longer because they're understaffed, it seems like. It's the same old group of people. I've gone into that dining room and it's a very nice dining room. I went there to have dinner with my mom and my husband on pizza night. I noticed that they needed more chefs for those personal pizzas. It's a very clean facility though, and very updated. No problems in that sense. They just need a lot of employment. They have a really good event coordinator. My mom does socializing because they do bingo and poker. They do bring in a lot of socializing into that place, like musicians and animals. They're a very active community, that's a good way to say it. These are active seniors. If my husband and I were not successful, my mom, with her pension, would not be able to float this on her own. We're taking up half of it, and I'm going to be honest, I think it is a little pricey for what you're getting. I can't believe that everything's added on. You could easily get up to a thousand dollars in that place with all those add-ons. Out of these little retirement homes I checked out, this is the luxury retirement home. This is for the kids that don't want their parents living with them, but they live in the neighborhood and they want them in a really luxurious spot. This is the place to go. It's very easy and convenient to get to, it's updated, and it's brand new. You get your money's worth in the sense of like you are paying a higher premium and, hopefully, their employment will expand so that you can get that VIP service. My mom is in their assisted living but they have different levels. They have seniors that need assistance, then they have active seniors that don't need assistance, and then they have a great memory care floor. Like if there's a family that's in desperate need of memory care, this is the place to go to.
