"The Ridge at Westlake Village was very tidy, nice, and new. I hardly saw any residents, and it seemed kind of empty. It has a beautiful deck on the top, but you're not looking out at anything very pretty. They're just buildings. It just seemed not personal at all. It was very nicely done, but that was it. The rooms were very nice, but the whole thing kind of felt a little cold. We didn't see much interaction with anybody, so you didn't get a real feel for it. The dining area looked nice. The whole thing was nice and brand new. They have a patio on the roof, and it is beautiful. However, there wasn't much ambiance. It was really well done. Parking was easy, and it was very nice, but it didn't have much feel to it. The staff was nice, but wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as the lady at the other place. I didn't try their food, but they gave us a box of probably the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had in my life."

"It is in a pleasant and rich looking area. It is a big white building with pillars in front of it. It is very pleasant and very clean. My mother is Jewish, she wanted some elderly Jewish people to talk to, and it is 86% Jewish. It is very big, very nice, and very expensive. My mother is very happy with the service she gets. She has not participated in any activities yet because she is 96 and she doesn't like to go out much anymore, but the activities they have are games like board games and card games. They take the ladies to a movie theater once in a while. The dining room is very nice. They have two different sessions for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She likes the food. I ate there once or twice, and the food is very pleasant and very nice."

"This is a wonderful caring facility, the staff of aides (if needed) and the residents are very friendly. "

"Mom has been in Avantgarde since November 2012. It's a place that focuses on memory care, so they have a lot of activities like jewelry making and other art classes. They have volunteers that comes in, a guitarist that comes in once a month to sing folk songs to the residents, and they do a lot of extra activities. The staff is very caring, especially the day shift. They tend to give a lot more time to give personal care, so I like the care and the people that work there. Since we put my mom in Avantgarde, we haven't seen any problems and she seems settled there. She's always participating to have exercise every morning. It has been pretty good. "

"Belmont Village Hollywood Heights seemed like a very friendly place. It's well maintained, but my mother did not like that there wasn't a lot of outdoor areas and there was not a lot of natural life. They showed us independent living, assisted living, and memory care, and secure memory care. We saw the game room, a bistro, the gym, and we saw some of the rooms where people meet. We saw the room where they show movies and do TED talks. We saw some residents. We didn't see much interaction among them. They were so sparse, but we saw a group of residents in discussion about an upcoming fashion show. In the elevator, we met two other residents. The apartments were fine. The studio seemed a little small for someone coming from a complete house. Even the one-bedroom seemed small, but well laid out. It seemed like a very safe place, but it had the potential to be isolating."

"I liked CityView. It's a newer facility and decorated nicely. The living quarters was very nice. I liked the rooftop garden. The person who assisted me was great. The dining area and the apartments were very nice. The rooms were nice sized and modern looking."

"Westmont Culver City is very nice and it's brand new. My mother has a one-bedroom, one-bath, and it's nice. I highly recommend it. The staff is great. They have a gym, chair aerobics for everybody, a movie theater, a restaurant, a courtyard, front and back entrances, private elevators, you have to use the key to get in, and front desk staff. She doesn't like the food that much."

"Everything at Palm Court was excellent. The apartments were beautiful. They had a movie theater, a fitness room, arts and crafts room, and all kinds of activities, like a walking club and all kinds of other things. "

"As I was looking for a new place for an elderly parent, and with new requirements for daily living, found Clearwater at Riverpark. Met with Gary and Sandy, went over all the current and new requirements, to which each and every one of them was discussed AND addressed once the move-in happened. The community is absolutely beautiful, staff are super nice, the activities are of interest to the residents, and the food is really good (I admit that when I visit, I'd rather eat there then one of 10+ places within walking distance)."

"We went to Cypress Place Independent Living, and there were no men. Almost all the men were in assisted living. I think there were probably three or four couples there, and that was it. My husband found that very inadequate. The place was nice, and the staff was nice. They have a nice library, and they also take trips. They have the same basic things that everybody did. We didn't have any objections to the rooms. They were just a lot smaller than the other two we visited. They had a multipurpose room, and they did artwork and stuff like that in there. They didn't have their activities as often as the other ones did. It was like everything came once a week. They have a courtyard in between buildings where they have the pond and the fish."

"You have to be very independent to live in The Lexington Assisted Living. They don't even have anyone on-staff that can come in and deliver pills to you or any of that. They have shuttles that bring you to mass, to the grocery store, or to your doctors' appointments. It is very large. I met one of the women who was fully walking around without any type of cane or assistance, and she seemed very happy. However, it is very much for someone who is independent."
