"I liked the fact that Paradise Village is very clean, I liked the fact that the people do not seem unhappy, that they're there and doing stuff. Everybody seemed to like their food, and there were sufficient activities so you don't get bored to death. So overall, it had a great living vibe, so it was a good trip. My cousin liked the outside gardens and stuff. He was a horticulturist, so he likes going outside and looking at plants, and they had garden areas which he really liked. So I think that was the deciding factor right there. I liked the community the best. Everybody was friendly, everybody knew what they were doing, and everybody seemed to be doing their jobs very well. The food was as good as almost any restaurant that I go to all the time. I had a Reuben sandwich with potato salad; both were excellent. I thought the facility was outstanding. Some of their facilities are closed right now because of COVID."

"I visited the Fredericka Manor. The lady who took us around was just lovely. She was a very nice lady and just showed us everything. She had ultimate patience. I had a tour of the entire place. They have individual cottages and we went and toured several of those. They have them from studios up to two bedrooms. They have a variety to choose from. Then, I went into the big building and also toured the different floors and went up to the seventh floor, where you have a beautiful view, and then down to the first floor. There are different levels there to that from the studio to one bedroom. They were all beautiful and each one that we saw was brand new. It was either finished or they were in the process of tearing everything out and putting new everything in. So it's just like moving into a brand new apartment. We went into their restaurant, which was also just beautiful. It had one wall from floor to ceiling and you looked out over a beautiful park and everyone was very nice. They had a little store that was similar to a 7-Eleven except it was completely private where you could buy little things that you may have forgotten to get. If you want to practice the piano and not let anybody hear you, they have these earphones on the piano, so you can go in there and have complete privacy and make all your mistakes with no one hearing you. So I thought that was a great amenity. On each floor of the building, there was a trash chute where you just put your trash into the hole in the wall and it goes downstairs so you don't have to carry anything downstairs. They also had a little meeting room on each floor where you could get together with your friends from the facility. They had a separate kitchen if you wanted to cook a meal. There was a place on each floor to do that. A lovely place to live."

"My mother is here. The people seem very nice and friendly. They are always helpful when I call. They go outside to do things, but she is not really involved in much of that. They do have a bus that will take her to her doctor's appointment, or she can take a taxi. They communicate pretty well. When I ask questions, they answer, and they get back to me if they do not have an answer. They are doing pretty well. I am satisfied with the care. She is eating three times a day, and that's all that matters. She has roof over her head, and she is getting healthier. "

"My brother lives here. They have pretty small rooms. They have two people in a room. It's kind of a residential setting. It is like a small apartment and it is fine. They take care of my brother. So, I'm happy with the work they do. The staff seems really nice and caring. I was a little concerned in the beginning, but now that he's been there a while, I think they try to take care and see to his needs. I saw the food and my brother seemed to like it all right. They have a little small room where they sometimes get together. They got puzzles and a small library."

"It was very nice, it was just a little more expensive than the other place, and they didn't have a pool and a spa. The apartments were fairly decent size, very nice, but not much storage. They had a very good list of things to do, they take people shopping, and they had several choirs; they were very good on that from what we saw. The staff seemed to be hard working. The dining area was very nice, and typical."

"We like having Dad at Sun & Sea Manor. I think it's a good home. They communicate with me properly about him. I have good relationships with the girls who work there. You can go for a private room or a room with two people. They're small, but you don't need much. Dad has a TV, his bed, and his dresser. It's all there and they have a large dining room and a large living room for you to walk. They have activities, too. I've tried their food and it's pretty good. They have a private chef. They do puzzles and they have physical activity, like working out. They bring animals in and live music. They do bingo, coloring stuff, crossword puzzles, games, and little dance parties. They have a small garden out front. They have someone come in to cut hair and do nails as well. It's a small home with 20-something people and they're on all levels of care. So if someone wants a smaller home with staff that communicates with you, I'd say this is a pretty good one. It's probably one of the cheaper places in this area."

"We found The Westmont for my mother, and she's happy there. It was way better than anything we saw. She's in a studio size apartment, and it was extremely clean, but they also had 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments. We're very pleased with it, and my mom loves it. "

"Ivy Park at Otay Ranch was absolutely gorgeous. It's newer, and everybody was super nice and informative. They gave me a tour of the place. It's really nice, and I think mom would like it there. I took her yesterday to take a tour herself and she really liked it, which was surprising. My mom really doesn't communicate any kind of joy or anything because she has dementia, but she liked it. I really didn't look at the amenities yet, but I was hearing that they were gonna do a painting class when I was there. It sounds like they have all kinds of activities. I saw the activity board from across the room in the lobby, and it was full. She will be in memory care, so it's a full lockdown with their own little garden area outside. The room was very big and spacious. The bathroom was big. You can get into it if you have a wheelchair or anything else, like my mom uses a walker; it will be easy for her to get around. They were serving lunch when I left with my mom yesterday, and it smelled really good."

"I visited Right Choice Senior Living, and then I also spoke to the owner on the phone. The owner, for some reason, didn't know that I was going to be there, so he wasn't there. One of the caregivers assisted me. The tour was good. I liked it. Edgar was the caregiver, and he seemed to be very attentive to each resident. Each resident wasn't tied to a strict schedule. The residents could go outdoors if they wanted, but no gym or library that I was shown."

"My mother moved into Gold Canyon Care Home. They seem pretty good so far. Everybody is really nice. Her room is very nice. She's going to end up with a roommate, but right now there's no roommate. She has a closet, a dresser, and they put pictures up on the dresser. She has a TV in the room. The bed looks like it will move, it's got like the up and down thing, like a hospital bed, and that's good. I think she'll like that. The first day I was there, they brought home some deli Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, and it was really good. But my mom didn't like eating that day, so they told me to give her Ensure. They have games, and they have a time where they all get together and do things together in one big room. It looks like they have a nice big kitchen and a lot of staff. They have lots of bathrooms, it's the walk-in kind, they can wheelchair her in and give her a bath. They have a patio deck going all the way around the house, and in the backyard they have a big view looking over a canyon, and they have barbecues out there. It's very nice."

"The staff are really excellent - kind, well-trained. Management keeps a good eye on how residents are treated. There are lots of activities, for all levels of ability, and the staff work hard to keep residents engaged. The quality of the apartments is high - soundproof, great plumbing, pleasant. The dining facilities are good, and when necessary, the resident may eat in their room. Management is very responsive to calls and emails. After all the horror stories you see in the news, it is wonderful to have found such a nice place for my beloved mother."

"I preferred Lantern Crest Senior Living out of all the places I visited because it is brand new. They had full kitchens in their apartments with oven, stove, and microwave just like a mini home. I loved the place and wish I could afford to live there. Their restaurant looked like a 5-star restaurant with an extra room if you had a big family and want to get together; you can rent it and bring your own food or they can cook for you. It had a balcony and was a huge room, probably over 1,200 square feet wide. They had a movie theater, a beauty shop, and a library with a computer setup. They had a swimming pool with a huge barbecue area where you could have parties. There's nothing else you could want in that place. "

"I toured AvantGarde Senior Living of La Jolla. The staff told me that my friend wouldn't be able to have a private room, but the papers that the social worker had sent me said that he could have a private room. The staff was awesome. It's very clean, but it is an older place. They've got it fixed up real cute, but I didn't like the shared rooms. It was a good atmosphere. It seemed like all the patients who were there were very happy. The shared room has a curtain in between down the middle, just like a hospital room. It's in a beautiful location. It's right in the middle of La Jolla. It's near the water. You can take the bus, and it drops you off right near there. It's a beautiful neighborhood that they're in."

They had all kinds of interactions with the residents. They had outings for the residents. They were just wonderful. The rooms were big and spacious, and the studios were wonderful."

I come to visit an old friend and am always impressed with the compassion that I see in the interactions between the residents and staff. The community is beautiful, the location is great and the residents are happy. I look forward to my visits there. "
