Independent Living Communities in Chula Vista, CA

"We toured Paradise Village. I liked it but it's very costly. They have a restaurant for everybody if you want to eat there. If you're already receiving care, it's free. There's a swimming pool, and they have a garden. It's a huge community, four floors and it's open. They're like a hotel, a mini resort. Every room has its own bathroom, and no shared bathroom regardless if it is a double bed or single bed. When you get there, it's like an open reception. The staff was a Filipino mix and other races, and they're very friendly, too. Their food was probably well taken care of, with a big kitchen and full staff. They have free coffee and snacks all day. You can request for food whatever you like, and they will cook it except Filipino food. They have probably counted carbs because they have embedded long-term service people there. They have embedded chaplains. They have activities. Everybody is in their private room because it's so spacious. They probably see each other only in the dining room. It's very private."

"My grandmother has actually made her decision, and right now she’s in the process of getting the doctor’s clearance; then, we’ll contact the facility to set the date. She's moving into Westmont at San Miguel Ranch. The whole facility is just gorgeous. It is set on its own property, so that is really nice. There is not a lot of traffic in the area, but it’s also centrally located to some of the other stores. On the west side, it looks like it is isolated and up on a hill with nothing around, but it actually has some shopping and dining just right across the street. The location of it is really good. It’s also really close to my grandpa, which is a factor in her deciding which facility. Also, they have a lot more customization as to whatever she wants. Like if she wants to move different furniture or if she wants something different as a meal, they’re a little more catering to her. We spent a lot of time there, all the people were really nice, and they had a lot more activities. Also, the one that I like that I don’t think my grandmother realize is it’s a non-smoking facility. There’s no smoking. My grandmother smokes, and she needs to not smoke, so being there is going to make it difficult for her to smoke because she has to go all the way out of the property; she won’t be able to do that. So I really like that it’s non-smoking because not only that she cannot smoke but she also will not be tempted to smoke by other smokers. The only thing is I would have liked to see is more outdoor community areas for just the family. They do cater to families coming in; there is reserved seating and separate dining that you can rent out. The theater is gorgeous. They do have the Wii, and I’m sure it would be more of a hazard maybe to have more outdoor activities, but I would like to see my grandmother being more active outdoors. "

"I went to see the independent living community of Monte Vista Village Senior Living. I liked it, and there's a good chance that I might go with it. It's laid out very nicely, and it was easy to get to the different areas of it. When you open the apartment door, you can see outside. I went to another place that was just like a big hotel. Here, you could get outside easily. It was very clean, and the landscaping was very nice. As you walk out there, you can see the plants and flowers. The rooms were clean. I looked at a studio, and it had all the things that I needed in it. Everyone is very nice. The person who showed us around introduced us to some of the staff working around the area. There were at least three people on the staff who had been there for more than 10 years."

"My former husband was at Atria Collwood. It was very good and very clean. The people were very nice. They tried to do their best, but they weren't licensed to do some of the stuff that was needed for my former husband. Everybody was very caring. For the person staying, the food was very good. For the person that was just visiting, it was very bland, but of course, they have to take into consideration everybody. But everything was very nice. The facilities for parking and stuff were very easy. My former husband had a sunny room, which I think is pleasant. He had a window. The bathroom was comparable to assisted living. We were able to put everything in like pictures on the wall and his Juris Doctor degree. He was an attorney. They all knew him by the first name. I wasn't there at the end when my boys moved him out, but there was a lot of stuff going on. They had a nice library. They could enlarge the print and it is very nice to have that. They had people doing bingo all the time, they had puzzles, and they can work out. The people that work there were involved with the individuals on the different items that I just mentioned. "

"St. Paul's Manor was a nice place. It had assisted living and independent living. There was an ocean view, and it was very nice. It was an older building, but it was well maintained. I went to look at the rooms, and they were nice. The staff was very accommodating. The grounds were well maintained, and it was a classy place. It was in a great location because it was close to parks and museums. "

"Grossmont Gardens is a 5-star facility. I have no qualms about that. I looked at both assisted living and independent living. It was friendly. The place was clean and nice. I met with the residents there, and they were very friendly, too. The staff was exceptional. They were very helpful. The tour was nice. The facility was exceptional, and everything was like that. They showed me one unit that I was interested in, and then they found out that that unit was not available. They had given me a lesser unit, but I didn't want that. So that was where the glitch was. It was just that somebody got there before me. The facility was excellent. I have no negative comments about the facility or anything like that."

"I liked Waterford Terrace. The food was OK, but it was more cafeteria-type food with a not-so-large selection. The layout of the place was very nice. They had a movie theater, a game room, a room for social events, and an exercise room. They had everything that you would want, like a beauty shop. It was a very nice place. The rooms were nice but had a partial kitchen with a hot plate, a little microwave, a counter, and a small refrigerator. "

"My Aunt was a resident of Westmont, both in the Assisted Living and Compass Rose sections until her passing. In both sections she received wonderful care and tremendous support from everyone at Westmont. The facility is new and beautiful with so many amenities that supported my Aunt's elderly lifestyle. She really loved her modern apartment and adored her caregivers. My family is also very thankful for the care, support and guidance shown to both my Aunt and our family during her time there and her transition from one section to another. The Westmont team, both administration and care staff, went above and beyond in providing amazing care, services and support to her and our family before, during and after her living there, always with dignity and compassion. We will be eternally grateful for finding such an incredible facility and loving staff, and we highly recommend Westmont to anyone looking for a care center for a family member. Thank you."

"Solstice Senior Living at El Cajon was super nice. We really liked it. The one-bedrooms had a living room and a nice big closet, a bedroom, and a bathroom. They were really nice. They had chair yoga, exercise, dance classes, and all kinds of activities. The man who gave us the tour was outstanding. We were impressed with the whole thing, like the grounds, the rooms, the activities, and the food. If we were to make the decision to put Mom in a place like that, that's the one we would choose. It was a really nice facility. I met the activity director, and everybody seemed friendly. It seemed like a really nice situation."

"I visited a friend at Lantern Crest Senior Living. It feels very professional, and I felt that they had a good handle on things. I was in the dining room, and they looked to have lovely meals. They have activities centers and sometimes they have music. My friend's room was very nice, it was a 1-bedroom."

"Oakmont of Pacific Beach was newer, and extremely active with activities, so there were a lot of things to do. However, the rooms that were available for the price, were shared and not private. They invited us one evening to enjoy the art instructor, which was very nice. They had very nice food. It had a theater, so you could watch movies on a big screen in comfortable seats. The staff couldn't be nicer and considerate. They know your name."

"I cannot thank the staff of the Hyatt enough! My father was admitted following a health crises in his home. My sister and I were very concerned about placing him in a facility. He has always been stubborn and very independant, and we were concerned that he would not participate in therapy so that he could go back home. The Rehab staff were wonderful, they were so patient and worked with him so that he could get back to his second story apartment. The Nursing staff were very attentive and answered all of my father's questions. The food was top notch- I think he ate better during his stay, then he does at home. Hats off to the Hyatt!!!"

"Belmont Village La Jolla was very nice. The tours were good. They gave you plenty of information. They talked about the activities and the food. They had independent living, assisted living, and an area for memory care. It is a high-rise. They had a whole lot of amenities. The lobby and the rooms are very nice. We got somebody from the sales department to tour us. They were very professional. We got introduced to some of the staff as we were walking around. They seemed very nice. We had lunch there, and it was very good. There's nowhere to walk outside. It's not like there's any kind of walking path because it's sort of right down by University Town Center. It's very congested and very busy. There was plenty inside the building itself. They had courtyards or patios where you could sit out, and they had a swimming pool. It's really nice, well decorated and clean, but there is a corresponding cost to that. They all have underground parking, and if you are bringing a car with you, you have to pay extra for a parking space, and they have to park it for you. You don't have an assigned space. You have to go to the valet and wait for them to bring the car, take it from you, and bring it back. It was probably the most expensive place we looked at."
