"We did tour Solstice Senior Living at El Cajon. We went to a couple of units. We didn't actually like it that much, so we didn't spend too much time there. It's hard to say because they were in a pandemic, so you don't get a true look at everything. The staff did fine, he was personable, and everything was fine. Nice tour. It's an older place. It had a bit of a musty kind of smell to it. I don't know if it's anyone's fault. It's just not for me. We saw all the amenities. We saw the little workout room they had. We saw everything."

"I like the spaciousness of the rooms. I liked that a couple of the rooms that we looked at have balconies or a patio. There are lots of different rooms where people can meet with their families. These rooms were spacious, clean, and we liked the great library, the music room, and the pianos everywhere. I like the director, who runs it. A few times when we were talking with her, she got up to help somebody that she saw behind us needed some help. She's willing to interrupt her time with us in order to help a resident. I thought that it was good to prioritize that. They actually would have been our first choice, but Mom wanted to have a one-bedroom instead of a studio. So, she wanted a bigger place. Their kitchenette areas were very, very tiny. There's a very tiny half fridge and a little countertop where the microwave goes. So, there's not a whole lot of food prep area. I liked the building a lot, though. It was easy to navigate. The atmosphere felt upbeat and everything was light. Nothing was too dark."

"I visited Westmont at San Miguel Ranch. It was very nice but just too far from the house. It was a little hotel-like, but it was very nice. It would probably be my second choice for my mother. It was very nice. It may be a little too much for what she needs, but it was fine. I didn't see anything negative about it except maybe it was a little overdone. The rooms were larger than average. They had a washer and dryer, which my mother doesn’t need. They had a kitchenette in all rooms. I looked at the menu, and it was fine. The way they catered to their residents stood out to me. They seemed to know them all and looked after them. They would feed them no matter what time they showed up in the dining room. "

"I'm moving into Fredericka Manor's independent living. The people seemed pleasant and they have a variety of living situations. When you need assistance, you can add that in like an a la carte option. You can have assisted living at your residence until you are required to move to another route because of health reasons. I've chosen a studio cottage, which has a bungalow arrangement. They're prepping it before I move in with new floors, new carpet, and new paint. There's a variety of floor plans. It's one of the older communities around, but everything is in good repair."

"I liked Pacific Pointe a lot. It's definitely a place I would consider for my mom. It looked like a pretty good option. It was not a licensed place, but it had everything you would want. Meals were prepared. There were activities. They would take residents twice a week to shopping and doctors' appointments. Maybe once a week, they would take them to a park or something. It was perfect. You would be in a social setting, and that would be safer because there would be people checking on you. It was excellent, and I liked it a lot. I liked the people who were working there, the setup, and how they kept the residents active. Plus, it's close to where I work. "

"St. Paul's Manor was very nice. It was well organized and clean. They had social rooms and areas where they do their projects and activities. The food was good, and the price included 1 meal a day. There was no parking and no swimming pool, but they had a gym. The staff that I met was friendly. I was able to talk to a couple of residents, and they seemed satisfied with the place. I liked this place. "

"Lantern Crest was brand new. Everybody there was absolutely wonderful, and the residents we met were all upbeat and happy. They did not have anything bad to say about it when we were eating lunch with them. Everybody that lived there loved it. The food was OK. I thought it was a great place. "

"My mom likes Ivy Park at Otay Ranch. She met a few older women there who were very sweet. The location is also close to the family. What she didn't like is the outdoor facility there. They have a courtyard that is kind of like a prison yard. It's completely enclosed within the building, with walls straight up, down, and all the way around it, and it is kind of a different feeling being outdoors there. The girl who gave us the tour was very energetic and excited about her job, as well as the facility. They gave us a delicious apple pie, but we didn't stay for lunch."

"St. Paul' Plaza is opulent as far as the amenities. They have a pub. They have different types of food that you can order a la carte. The facility itself is brand new (I think). It looked brand new. They have lots of activities there, and they have a very nice courtyard."

"My husband has been at Canyon Villas for a year and seven months. It was nice, and I liked the people who took good care of my husband. It had a great atmosphere and was central to family and friends. It’s reasonable, yet really expensive here in San Diego. There are different levels of care there, including a dementia unit. "

"Oakmont of Pacific Beach is a very good, busy place. There's a lot going on all the time. They have a physical therapy room. I was able to try the food, and it was very good. We're very happy with the place. It is only about five months old, so everything is fairly new and beautiful. The staff is very kind and competent."

"My Grandmother loves it here, it’s a great place to live. She has a social life that just wasn’t able to happen at her previous residence. This is a high recommend!"

"We visited Vi at La Jolla Village. It's a deluxe, high-end facility. We liked the fact that it had all the levels of care included in the initial monthly fee as opposed to some of the facilities where you pay extra for other levels of care. We are looking for something walkable, and it's not very walkable. There's a major shopping center there, but it's very difficult to get into the village from there. That's the principal downside for us. We met the marketing staff, who were very personable and pleasant. We had an excellent meal there. They had two meals a day. The apartments were beautiful. One of the things we wanted was a fireplace, and they didn't have fireplaces, but the apartments were very well done. They modify them each time a new person comes in. They're in beautiful shape, and it's a large facility with 700 units, so they have a lot of services."
