Independent Living Communities in Lebanon, PA

"I liked the size of The Terraces at Capitol Village. It was sort of secluded and a good location. There's a lot of shopping. They were redoing some of the places, and they're moving to hardwood floors instead of carpet and that may sound good, but I prefer carpet. If I had a room that was all laminate or hardwood, I would end up putting area rugs down and they scare me to death. They are too easy to trip on and that's one reason I probably would not move in there because I don't want to walk around and step over area rugs. They only showed me stuff inside because they didn't have a lot of stuff outside. They had some walking trails, but nothing else, which is fine with me. If I want to go golfing or swimming, I would just get in my car and go somewhere else. They have regularly scheduled events. There are so many. You can't read them all, but they all sound fun. Cleanliness seemed nice. There weren't a lot of people that were sitting outside. They have benches and stuff. They don't have a lot more than that. Just a park area and you walk around and enjoy the weather or flowers, but there weren't hardly any people out there. I checked out their independent living but I liked that they can make their way up to skilled nursing so you don't have to leave your apartment. When you get to where you're incapacitated, they will send the caretakers to your room. I liked that. They have an area in the building for people that need round-the- clock care, and that's what I'm looking for. They take you to the end of your life."

"The Manor was wonderful, but it just didn’t fit the needs of my mom. The staff was very nice, I think they have a place to work out, and I saw the dining area. "

"My visit at The Heritage of Green Hills was very good. The staff was absolutely wonderful, knowledgeable, and informative. It was extremely clean, and the food was excellent. The rooms had a lot of variety in types and sizes -- excellent layouts. It was really a nice place. "

"We toured The Manor at Market Square. The people were very nice and helpful, and they answered all our questions. It seemed like a caring place. The staff was very good, and she contacted me later, and we talked. It was very clean. The people were sitting in the lobby watching TV, and it seemed like a very nice place."

"Essex House is definitely worth checking out. I like the fact that it was run by a couple who was there all the time. I also like the fact that it's a little bit cheaper than some of the other places. There were full time care supervisors there so I thought that was a plus. It appeared to be very clean. The common features like the dining room was very nice and there was an atrium in the middle where it rose to the full heights of the building. There were sofas there and they put the Christmas tree there and it's a nice, welcoming face at the same time it's pretty elegant and fancy, too. "

"I toured Autumn House East for my dad. The room was good. The staff who gave the tour was excellent and very informative. They had all kinds of activities. However, I wasn't there that long. We took a short tour and realized that my father would be better off in a nursing home rather than assisted living because of his dementia. The place was clean and well-maintained. They just remodeled and did some other stuff."

"I have been living in Alden Place for seven years now. It is well laid out. It has a clubhouse with indoor swimming pool, a gym, a big ballroom, pool tables, and a snack bar. They have people come in to teach yoga, Zumba, card games, pinnacle, and bridge. I am in what they call The Villa. It has three homes attached to each other. I am on an end unit, I have a two-car garage, and it is 1,400 square feet including the garage. "

"We went to visit Cornwall Manor because it didn't seem like it was a retirement community. They have single-family homes that retirees can get or apartments, and those are spaced out throughout the property. They're not all crammed into one place, and they have different kinds of apartments you can buy into, depending on what your needs are. There are a lot of amenities and we like what they have to offer, and they have an indoor swimming pool. The overall tour was very good and the staff that gave the tour was excellent. She was very knowledgeable, wasn't pushy, she says we take time to make our decision and she's willing to work with us. The facility was very clean and well kept."

"My aunt is in Hill Farm Estates. It's an elegant alternative to facility living. Their staff is attentive and professional. The rooms are cozy and clean. These are one bedrooms with a bathroom. They have a full activities calendar and a beautiful setting. They have an enormous veranda where the residents can sit and it overlook the Lebanon Valley. It's a beautiful estate. They have regular exercise classes and activities like that. They have three dining rooms and each overlooks the beautiful vistas below the Lebanon Valley. They're less expensive than the typical facilities. It's $2,000 less a month than what she was paying, but it's a beautiful mansion. This facility should be checked out for the benefits and price as well as the living conditions."

"My great grandmother is a resident in this facility and she enjoys it very much. Always an active and social lady, she enjoys the activities provided to her. From bus trips to local high school plays and musicals to bingo nights and religious groups, she is always busy and seems very content with the amount of opportunities provided to her. Many students from local high schools work at this facility and they are very friendly and, most importantly, always available. When she visits for the holidays they always remember to send her medication with her for us and include instructions. The facility is clean and the food, although cafeteria-esque, is nutritious and well prepared. I am also pleased with the attention to her medical condition. Recently he medications were changed around and they took great care to monitor her condition and, most importantly, get her input on how she felt about the changes. They even listened to her suggestions and switched one of the medications that she was not happy with. At 92 years of age, she is slowing down and the available medical attention is high quality and fast. We, as her family, are satisfied with this facility and how they have treated her. She is happy and always excited to participate in the many social activities offered at Stoneridge! "

"I visited Lebanon Valley Brethren Home last fall. They have different levels of care in that place. In one side, you could live by yourself, and if you get sick you can move to the other side. If you need a nurse, they have that as well. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They took time to show us around and answered all our questions. We had the whole hour with them to talk. They have multiple units. They have an apartment, a cottage and a one- or two-bedroom. They let us see the cottage and two different apartments. There's also a cafeteria, pharmacy, and gymnasium in that place. "

"I have moved into Brookshire. It's an over-55 community with very active people. There are lots of clubs and organizations, they have a clubhouse with an exercise facility, a craft room, and library and internet access. They have periodic lunches, breakfasts, and dinners. There's bingo and various groups that meet in the clubhouse. I wanted to be close to family, so it fits the bill for that. You own your own home here, and I thought that the price was reasonable for what you get. It's large and it has 234 homes. Once in a while they'll have a community meal that you pay for, but that's more of a social thing; they don't offer meals. There are a lot of senior activities, clubs, and organizations."

"United Zion Retirement Community is very clean and well-kept. Their food is very good. They could use a little more staff. They're very nice, but each person has plenty to do. It doesn't have a swimming pool or some of the health things that other places have. I think the cost is a little less because of that. It's very well established. It's been here a long time. They have local people doing the cooking. I know they have invited some of the people who are in independent living to come into the kitchen and help them prepare food. They allow some of that, such as green beans, that they just need to have the ends snipped off and broken into pieces, things like that, not necessarily things that they would need to use a knife. I don't think they do a lot of trips and things like that. It's a very good value because it's a very safe place and very low key and I think that makes it very safe. There's nothing here I would improve. It's very secure. I chose it because of availability and reasonable rates plus their reputation here in town is excellent. They will be opening a new building and have 36 new apartments."

"Country Meadows was very nice. The dining area is neat, clean, and cafeteria style. They serve different groups and different levels of care. There were bus trips to museums and daily exercises in the morning. "
