I toured Brookdale Woodward Estates. I thought it was excellent. It was friendly. It was comprehensive. I got to see many of the residents just going through their day, as well as the facilities and the grounds. So I was happy with all of those things. I felt that they had given me a good impression of what day-to-day life would be like for my mother. They showed me the menus and explained to me how the menus worked. There’s a monthly menu that was published and I was told how the residents choose their meals for the following day, etc., and also about flexibility. I saw the library. I saw several different sorts of recreational rooms, some with television, some without, some quiet spaces, and some spaces for social activities and crafts, like an art studio. So I saw quite a few different things. The staff made the tour, I was impressed. Everyone spoke to me, even people who were taking laundry down the elevator. Very friendly, very warm, and the people who were giving this tour were comprehensive. They discussed a lot of the personal idiosyncrasies that my mother had, as well as showing me how they would address those particular things. The air seems very fresh and clean inside. Everything was clean, and I was very impressed with it.

I liked Henson Creek Assisted Living. They just built new units, which are private units for the assisted living area. I was shown the multiple housing units, but I was more interested in the single units, so there could still be a little privacy, and a small amount of independence for my father. They had activities and I was able to see when they have the nurse come in to do the medication, to see the area where they do that, in the sunroom and the TV area where they kind of congregate, and where they eat their meals. So I was kind of pleased with that. She said that in the new rooms they’re going to provide the furniture, which would be a bed, a reclining chair, a dresser, and a television. And then each of the independent rooms would have their own bathrooms, and that was another thing that I know that my father would appreciate is having that space that he would not have to share in that being a common area.
Diane was very pleasant, very helpful. She was able to answer my questions and actually give me information that I probably wasn’t thinking of, my questions that I didn’t know to ask. And she was able to let me know about the dietitian and the food plan. She was able to tell me about how they have an elevator for those in the older units, which are the ones that I did get to tour. They have like two levels and they have like an older elevator. But then she showed me how all of these residents get transported. They always have somebody with them when they’re in the common area where everybody is. So I was happy about that part. I think that’s about it. Her demeanor was very caring and nurturing, so I felt very comfortable with how she related to some of the patients as well as the staff. It was a pleasant experience. I was very happy once I had gone because it was the first one. But she made it a pleasant experience, and comfortable.

The staff at Russell Residence was very friendly. We spoke with the owner. She was very passionate about running a good home there. There was a lot of effort that was put in to ensure that it was comfortable for the residents. I think they had probably more room available for private rooms versus doubling up. There were renovations that they had started. The residents seemed to be pleased with the rooms that they were in, especially the private ones.
What I didn’t like was it was on two levels with stairs. They had one of those chair lifts in place, but I still didn’t like that. It kind of gave me an impression that sometimes folks weren’t able to totally interact with each other because of those that may have difficulty climbing stairs or whatever. It’s not against the owner. It’s just the way the house was designed. The owner was very pleasant. She followed up, and she was very accommodating and informative. I didn’t have much interaction with the staff, other than just passing them.

My uncle is in Independence Court of Hyattsville. The facility is exceptional, as far as their location, their amenities, and their staff. He is having trouble settling in, but they’re working with us. They’re very hands on. They’re very available, phone, text, email, however I want to communicate. If there was a scale, I would rate them at the top of the scale. I think they’re bending over backwards to do everything that they can to help him settle in. They have offered, if he doesn’t settle into their facility, to help us transition to another one. This is my first time doing something like this, and I’m 100% pleased with Independence Court. I sat with him for a meal, and their service, what they offer, the choices, the presentation, it was like a restaurant.

This facility is awesome!! The rooms are spacious and clean. This in-home assisted living is newly certified and has been completely remodeled inside. The staff is beyond wonderful with my mother. She is their first official resident and she LOVES it there. She cried all the way to the facility that first day … and now she considers it home … which is a huge relief to me. They are very attentive and patient to all her needs and have been very patient with me as well as I navigate the details of having a loved one in a facility.
My mother is bedridden and can’t really walk now. They have made several successful attempts to get her up and in her wheelchair for strolls around the block and to just get her outside on nicer days. I am beyond grateful to them for their care and concern.

It was clean and it had flowers all around. When we went inside they greeted us. We didn’t have to wait. The lady who runs the place was very cordial, plus the food smells good. They had two dining rooms and you can almost feel what’s going on inside of a building. It was peaceful and calm. It was just good vibes. She took us around to the different rooms. I liked their room sizes and I got to comment on how clean everything was and it smelled exceptionally fresh. The help spoke to you like how you were doing. I recommend that place.

I was able to see Prince of Peace I. They didn’t have many amenities as far as common areas, it was just one little small TV. Although they have TVs in their rooms, it would be good for them to get out of their rooms and be in a common area with other residents. But there’s not enough space for that. The staff members and employees were very welcoming, they went over a lot of things and asked a lot of questions about my grandmother, and they spoke about their specialties or their focus. They kind of specialize in dementia, so that was nice to hear. Whenever I call, they answered and were happy to answer any questions I had. They had a van that they use when they need to take the residents to places and stuff like that. But that’s the only amenity that I remember them mentioning. They have physical therapy that comes to the house, but I didn’t like that they didn’t have nurses or a nurse onsite 24 hours.

The person who assisted us during the visit was very warm and friendly. She’s also understanding of this kind of transition.

I’m very pleased that you can opt to be private or semi-private, it’s just the cost that’s getting me. The place itself or the housing is fine, it’s calm and very nice in there. I complimented the staff on what they were doing. The young lady that I spoke with gave me all the info, and whatever I asked, she gave answers. She showed me the place that my husband would be staying in if I chose for him to go there. She told me that activities people would go there, and if the patients choose to participate, they can. They would get them up and have them walk around as much as they can.

I visited Cosze Health Assisted Living. I was able to go in and see the rooms, the bath, and the living areas.

The staff at Angel Assisted Living, LLC wasn’t very welcoming to me and that was the big turnoff. I had an appointment the previous time and no one answered my phone call, so I left, and then I got a call a couple of hours later and we rescheduled it for another time. I came back and I did tour the place. It was a very large place.
The staff showed me the rooms and the places where the residents could go. It was clean. There was nothing wrong with the place. I just didn’t get a really warm welcome from the staff. It was like I was disturbing them like I was interrupting something. I kind of stopped looking around when I got that kind of vibe from the staff. The kitchen was set up pretty good with the island in the middle. They had a medication place where they administer medications.
The room I saw was adequate and looked safe. There wasn’t a whole lot of stuff in there. It had a dresser and a bed. It was simple and if I chose the place, my partner would be rooming with another person. I knew off the bat that wasn’t going to work. She needs a private room, but I thought it was adequate for senior living. The place was nice.
