"I have been living here at The Jefferson for two and a half years now. What I like the most is the level of activities here: Go to an advanced exercise class at 10:00 a.m., go to yoga at 11:15., go to 'bring me' games at 1:00, and go to politics and issues discussion at 2:30. If it's a Monday, it's the women's cocktail party and if it's Wednesday, it's the men's cocktail party. There's live entertainment multiple times during the week of supremely good quality. There are visits to the National Gallery with art docents. There's going to the opera and going to Kennedy Center for performances. The activity is constant, and it offers everything. Therefore, there's a very high level of physical, intellectual, and cultural stimulation. The only drawback is that it's two older towers, they're over 30 years old and have become very expensive. The staff is superb. They're like family. And the food is quite good. We have a wonderful chef. It's good food; it's healthy food. Regarding facilities, they just did a lot of updating on the main floor where our living room is and where our performance areas are. They have updated the pool area and the gym. So over the last year, they have done quite a bit of updating. It's also conveniently located. If you're mobile, you can walk to whatever you need. There's an abundance of restaurants and you have supermarkets within walking distance, but they also take you once a week to all of these."

"I saw the independent living community of The Lewis Apartments in Suitland. I like the room, the indoor activities, and the area. The staff members were very helpful and very knowledgeable. The place was very nicely done, and it's a very brand new building. They have a library, a gym, a theater room, and a washroom or a laundry room, as well."

"I like The Belnor Senior Residences very much. I like the amenities, the property highlights, and even the units. The kitchen was open and spacious. I like the floor plan, but they don't have enough closet space. The other features as far as the property is concerned, the laundry space and the fact that they have a community garden and greenhouse, I liked everything about it, even the reserved parking for the residents to make sure that we have enough parking. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The tour was very thorough. My questions were answered because there were just two features that I was interested in: the kitchen and the closets. You have to prepare your own meals."

"We visited Cogir of Old Town, Alexandria, and toured for assisted living. The tour was fine, and it was a nice building. The lady was very nice and told us everything that we needed to know. It was right there on the corner, and once we got inside, it was very nice. It had a very nice appearance and interior, and it was well laid out. They showed us the layout and what they do there. I kinda like it a little bit because, in their system, they had a gentleman who was the coordinator of the activities. He showed us all the games, and that's one of the things that I like about it. They played checkers, and they had puzzles and stuff like that, so there were a lot of things to do. They had everything that you needed, like a salon, where you could do your nails and hair. They had a nice place where you could walk. They also showed us the outside patio, and it was very nice. The person who gave us the tour was at the door when we came in, and asked us if we wanted refreshments or if there was anything we wanted before she started her tour. After the tour was over, she asked if there were any questions that we needed her to answer, and she answered them. We didn't eat, but they showed us the dining area, which is very clean and very well-kept."

"The lady who took me around The Sanctuary, a Mount Jezreel Senior Housing Community, was very nice. I only went to one available apartment and it's not that big. I need a little bit more space than that. The atmosphere was good. The secure door and everything were good. The community was clean and well-kept. They had a library and a room you can rent out for events, like a birthday party, or something like that. I only saw one person, and she was very nice. The place was silent. There was no noise."

"I toured Modena Reserve at Kensington. It was beautiful. It was open and light. I liked the restaurant set up for the dining. It was very pleasant. They had a lot of activities, and the rooms were nice. Everything was great. The staff was wonderful, very pleasant, and very helpful. They had a lot of lectures. They had music, physical therapy, and other therapies in the building."

"My 86 year old mother was at Chesterbrook Residences for 9 month before she died peacefully in her sleep from heart problems. She loved Chesterbrook Residences, her apartment, the people there who became her friends and the many diverse activities. I am so glad we found Chesterbrook Residences and we are only sorry we had not found it sooner!"

"I toured Maplewood Park Place for independent living, and the staff gave us an excellent tour. She took us into one of the bedrooms that I'm interested in, and we didn't have anything negative to say about that. Overall, the place was excellent and the gal who gave us the tour was great and very, very friendly. They have a sunroom and a 1-bedroom, and some of the rooms had a den. We were there on a Saturday at lunchtime, so there weren't many activities going on but we saw a lot of the residents coming out for lunch. The gal taking us around always would introduce us to them. In terms of amenities, they have everything and they offer everything. They have a gym, and they have various trips you can take where you just sign up on the sheet, and she mentioned to us that they have three meals a day if you choose. The staff that I met were all very pleasant."

"My mother moved to Cogir of West End Alexandria's memory care. It's a very beautiful community. The attendance of the nurses is very helpful, and the support staff is very supportive. The director is very welcoming and very friendly. The buck stops with him. He takes action immediately if you need something. I haven't had a complaint, but in my experience of trying to get what my mother needed, I can see that he's very receptive and quick to implement what it was that she needed. The staff he gave me to deal with was also very receptive and very professional. I'm very pleased with them. My mother's room is good. I've seen the food and the menu, and they look very healthy. They have activity after activity. Every hour, they're changing and doing something with the people. They take field trips, art sessions, and music sessions. They do let the residents watch TV, but it's not a situation where they're sitting in front of the TV all day. When they watch TV, it's usually a movie in the evening. They don't have the time to watch TV during the day because they're moving them around to different activities."

"I like that Golden Shield Ark Assisted Living Facility is small and family-owned and it's close to my grandfather. I don't know if there's anything that I like the least. The staff was very knowledgeable. I believe two of them are RNs, and I forgot what the certification is for the other aide. It was very clean. It's a small homelike atmosphere. It's very similar to my grandmother's house, so it was great. The dining area was fine. The size of the room was great and the layout was nice. They will allow us to bring a hospital bed and it has enough room for a Hoyer lift. There were probably two or three people that could sit in the room with her. It was great."

"I found the Paragon Assisted Living Potomac House Communities for my father. It's a group home. He moved in and he loves it -- the best place he's ever lived. This was perfect for him. The staff is great, my father feels very special there, it's very small, only eight residents, so it's very individualized. It's like they really care. He has the same, consistent people all the time. They have a chef who comes in every day and prepares the food. It's a brand-new facility, it's not even a year old. It's well-maintained. They clean the room every day. They have nice, big, open hallways. They have minimal activities, and they could probably do better for people who have the ability to do stuff. They're a great alternative to a bigger facility."
