"I moved my mother here. It is really, really nice with a lot of wooded area around it that won't be developed, so it's just a very pretty setting. The facility itself has recently been built, so I like the fact that the common areas were very wide open and there was access to a very pretty outside patio that was really good size. My mother loves to be outdoors, so that was very appealing. I really like the staff. They have been so far very good at communicating with me if I have questions, and just to keep you updated on my mother's progress there. And the price was right. I also like its proximity. Some of the other places I looked at were a little too far, and it would take me a long time to go back and forth, and that was definitely a factor. My mother's room is a studio, and I like it because it has lots of lights and it has a high ceiling. The bathroom is brand new. There's a very spacious walk-in. No step for the shower. It's very safe. I had lunch there and the food was good. The area where my mother has her meals is very inviting because it's very open and bright. She has a good appetite, so I think so far, she's enjoying the food. Everyone has been very responsive when I've called with questions, and or just called to ask about how she's doing. So the communication has been very good. Activities look great. It's on par with other places I looked at. I would say the other thing that was appealing about it is that it's very easy to know exactly what the cost per month will be because it's regardless of care level, and they also had a move-in special, which was appealing. It's very nice to have just one fee and just know that that's your fee as opposed to sort of trying to figure out what it might be based on care level and other factors. So that was appealing."

"Maplewood is a nice community, it is clean, appears well run and has separate towers for independent and assisted living. They organize a fair number of event both in the facility but also in Washington DC (with transportation often provided for residents). This helps keep the place feel a bit more active than other senior living communities I have visited. "

"The overall tour experience I had with Wilshire Estates Gracious Retirement Living was great. I got a chance to see an apartment and it was beautiful. The big turnoff was it didn't have a full kitchen, but the staff was good and everything looked fine. They are the ones who provide food for the residents so it feels like you're on a cruise ship. They even invited me to come in and take a three-day vacation, but I have no interest in that for now because I don't want to live anywhere where I have to eat somewhere else. I want to be able to cook my own food if I choose to. I like the fact that I can go downstairs if I want to, but I don't like to be forced to do that, but they had nice amenities and the location was perfect. No schools around. It's a very peaceful and beautiful location. They had a lot of different activities if you choose to participate too, so it was nice."

"The lady who took me around The Sanctuary, a Mount Jezreel Senior Housing Community, was very nice. I only went to one available apartment and it's not that big. I need a little bit more space than that. The atmosphere was good. The secure door and everything were good. The community was clean and well-kept. They had a library and a room you can rent out for events, like a birthday party, or something like that. I only saw one person, and she was very nice. The place was silent. There was no noise."

"I do live here and as far as I know this is independent living…. I have had no major problems and minor problems have been taken care of immediately and my interaction with staff has been fine….this is an over 62 community and I find that the people who complain the most are the really “crabby” ones to start with!!!!!!They complain about everything!!!!! "I toured the independent living community of Victory Crossing in Silver Spring. The assistant manager was very helpful with the tour. She pointed out a lot of things, and she called 30 minutes before my arrival to let me know about the waiting list and whether or not I wanted to come. I did because I was five minutes away, and because I would like to tour the building. They have a number of amenities, events, and things that they do with the residents to make their stay there much more comfortable, as far as getting them out once a week, and whether they're going shopping or whatever else is going on out. They didn't have a vacant apartment for us to view. We could only do the amenities that are there. They have a reading room. If someone is coming to do physical therapy with you, instead of having to use your apartment, where you may have limited space, they have a room on the first floor with a table and a balance board, and a couple of other little things in there, where you could do your physical therapy treatment. They do a once-a-month event where they have food brought in. They could function as a community to get to know others. They work very hard to do those types of events."

"The mood and spirit of the place. Location was important since I wanted to be near daughter. Being back in D.C. Area in a great place to end my days with interesting, educated people to spend my time with. Great programs to choose from. "

"The people at The Carnegie at Washingtonian Center were great. The place is great. It's just very expensive. The apartment size is average. It's very nice, clean, neat, and organized. The dining hall is very nice. The parking situation is excellent. They have a pool. Thirty meals are included with the monthly fee."

"My grandmother is in Chevy Chase House. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and my grandmother is very happy there. The apartments are very nice. She has a 1-bedroom apartment with a balcony, and it’s big enough for one person. They changed the chef, and the food is much better than it was. They have movies every night. They have food and entertainment. There is an exercise room. They have lectures, tai chi, and a couple of other exercise classes. For every holiday, they have an event where you can bring your family members. "

"My parents are moving into Kentlands Manor today. They like it a lot, it looks good, with wide open spaces, it's clean, and the people appear to be nice. It's a great place, with a nice location. They seemed to be playing games, they play piano, hang around, and talk to each other. The staff was helpful, and amenable."

"My experience with the assisted living provider was all around pretty good. The staff was very friendly and did all they could to make my uncle comfortable the whole time he was there. They also did a good job at accommodating to mine and my family's needs when we went to visit. They seemed to genuinely care about all of the residents there. Also the facility itself was overall well kept, occasionally some things would be dirty, but as a whole it was clean most of the time. The environment itself was usually cheerful so it was a very welcoming place. "
