I made a deposit at Modena Reserve at Kensington, and I'm on their waitlist. It's very nice. It's a little smaller without being too small. When I was there, everyone seemed to be very pleasant. I won't say everyone has a smile on their face, but I didn't see people who look disgruntled, which tells me that it's a relatively easy place. I like the way they have the place set up. I also like it being in Kensington, which has some interesting stuff close by. It's very close to where my friends are based. I met some people during the tour who lived there, and they all seemed quite friendly and just having a good day. They have some books that you can take to read. They have a good library in that sense, but it's more like a cart that is located in one of the public areas. There are some pretty recent books and some fairly vintage books, so it was a nice mix of titles. They have a small gym or an exercise room kind of place. One of the things that they have that is important to me is they have a salon onsite with both nails and hair, so I don't have to worry about finding a place other than there. They have a craft room, too. Most of the public areas are very open and very bright. They have a nice little viewing room that is set up like a theater.

I am a current resident in the assisted living section . After living here for one year, rent was raised by 10%, which was a surprise to me. What makes this harder to swallow is that when you press your pendant, it takes at least 30 minutes for someone to come to help you. it’s a glitzy looking place and it’s great if you don’t need help from the caregivers. If you do need help, you might as well bring in your own caregivers from the outside, which will increase your monthly expenses. I would move in a heartbeat, but I have no family in the area who can help me.

I went to Modena Reserve at Kensington. It was a gorgeous place, very vibrant. They combine independent living and assisted living. So, the assisted living people are part of a bigger community. They were well-staffed and the rooms were nice. The salesman was nice, and the activities director was wonderful. I went to 15 places or so. That was by far the best place. If money is not an issue, that's the place, and if you can wait, because it's completely booked. And that's unusual. Most places have openings. They have everything except for a pool. They don't have a pool, but they have like a fountain. They've got sculptures in the garden and a beautiful lobby. You feel like you're in a five-star hotel there. They have these beautiful rooms for theater and activity rooms. They always have something fun. It was the weekend of the Kentucky Derby, and they had somebody come there to make Kentucky Derby hats with the ladies. Just very, very, considerate, and fun type stuff that they're doing there.

Short-staffed - long response time when residents need help.

I toured Modena Reserve at Kensington. I don't think it's a good fit for me. It had a very strange décor. People were very nice, though. The apartments were very small. They had everything. They had a regular kitchen. They had a stove and a dishwasher. The bathroom was great, and they had closets and stuff. The person who took me around was very good. He did a wonderful job. They had this wonderful courtyard. It's just beautiful.

Modena Reserve at Kensington was a nice place. When I first stepped in (being that it's two years old), it was more of a contemporary place, which is fine for some people, but I don't feel as comfortable in that kind of setting. I don't have anything against it. It's not a bad entranceway, it's just more modern. I think they still had some work they wanted to do on it when I went. So, that's another thing. The staff were very nice and very friendly. I didn't get a big listing of all the activities that they have there, but they have activities. I just didn't go into details about that, but they told me they have social hours, cooking demos, some outings, and card games. They're about like the rest of the places. They feature all that. They're in the heart of Kensington. So, they're right by the railroad station and an antique village there.

Modena Reserve at Kensington was very nice. It was located close to restaurants, but it was just a very expensive place. The staff was very nice, and it was nice of them to refer me to something in the price range that my brother needed to be. She didn't try to push me away, she just tried to accommodate me even though she knew it was way over what we could afford.

I toured Modena Reserve at Kensington. They give housekeeping, and your rent covers utilities and TV. The staff is good. They insist on not having lunch in the rooms, you had to go down the halls to the large dining room. It's $800 for meals for the month and you pay to park $75 a month. For the bus to take you anywhere, it has to be within ten miles. They also encourage individualized cooking. It's not a CCRC. It has assisted living, but not medical care. I also didn't like the fact that they were for-profit and so they were more expensive. The outdoor space is nice, big, and open.
