Sunrise of Bethesda felt much more like an apartment building in the town or in the city. It's got a very nice, big, inviting lobby area where there were a lot of residents heading out for their appointments and on their way to activities. It seems brand new. It's a beautiful space, kind of warm and inviting, similar to the other Sunrises. I did not try the food, but the dining area looked very nice. I understand they have a Sunday brunch for residents and families every week, which I think is a nice feature. I saw one studio and one one-bedroom, and they're both nice. They have a library, a salon, and an activity area. It's on the smaller side of things, but still seems like there's plenty of space to entertain. I saw folks hanging out with their families or with their therapists in the common areas. There was a lot of activity around, but it felt very homey. It didn't feel institutional. There were nice spaces for people to spend time with friends and family. They are in a very nice location in Bethesda. It's right next to a trail. There's a park right near them, and it has easy access to downtown Bethesda. I was impressed.

Sunrise of Bethesda is very open and fairly new. There is lots of light. A very friendly atmosphere. However, there are not that many grounds. There's a small patio area and kind of a border, but there's no extensive grounds or landscaping. The staff who toured us was very friendly, candid, and very nice. As we made our decisions and had questions, she was very willing to talk to us. We had lunch and it was fine, but I don't have extensive knowledge. It was just an ordinary lunch, it was nothing spectacular, but it was fine. For activities, I observed exercise in the morning, and I observed the activities director with a group, but we only stayed a few minutes. Everyone looked engaged.

Sunrise of Bethesda is a beautiful facility. The people are very nice, and they're taking good care of my mother to the extent that they are able to. It's the management that's at fault. They tell you they're doing things that they don't do. I've got a camera in my mother's room, which they know about and they've approved, so they know that I can see what they're doing or not doing, and it still doesn't matter. They say they're having one-on-one activities in this situation we're in now, but my mother doesn't have any activities at all other than they get her up and take her downstairs and out to the patio. Other than that, she's sitting in a chair in her room looking at the TV, except for the days when I have an agency person there. They don't really do anything for her. They bring her meals in Styrofoam containers, they change her bed, or they clean up and they leave. There's no engagement at all. I had to get an agency person 24 hours a day and yet they still put her at level three. They didn't do anything differently than they've been doing before, and they're charging me at level three. They're lovely people, but they don't do what they say they're going to do. The food is very good, but they are lacking in their activities. They went to a movie once nine months ago and they were doing shopping trips supposedly, but that stopped quickly. They used to have somebody on the piano downstairs in the lobby, and they have their own bus to take people on outings, but they don't use it. They don't have enough staff members.
