"We toured Sunrise of Chevy Chase. They nickel-and-dime everything because my mother-in-law would need 24/7 care. If you look at the terms of the meals, they were roughly about $2,000 per month to feed her. They charge separately to feed her - that was not included in the monthly cost. Now, in another facility, that's all included. They were all right, but the thing was that we looked at a shared room, which means that two residents will share a bathroom. And that was even for $17,000, and it wasn't even for a private room. At the other facility, she had a private room - just her - and everything came to about $8,000. The upkeep was fantastic. You can't beat it. When you walk in there, you see where that $17,000 is going. It is an open area, it's big, it is open, it's spacious. You're paying for this. So, I can't fault them. If you've got $17,000, go to them if you can afford $17,000 a month. That's almost 200 grand a year, and that's a lot of money. They have a good product. If you can afford it anf if you've got the money, I don't see anything wrong with that establishment. The person who took the tour was very pleasant and knowledgeable. However, I wasn't impressed with the room."

"I went on a tour of Abrams Assisted Living and the people there were very nice and accommodating. They also gave me a lot of information so the visit was good. I visited all the areas of their assisted living and saw the model room. I visited the cafeteria where they eat and the recreation center. I talked with the residents who were there and the staff too. I even met the person who provided the food, who was very sweet, and kind. The room I saw was very clean, spacious, and had a walk-in closet. The grounds were very well-kept and were very nice. It was a very nice experience."

"Bartholomew House is a very loving, caring, comfortable, and intimate place because it is small. It is a little bit more like a larger home, and it smells very clean. The food is good, and it has a great caring staff. They really feel that it is more than their job, and they put their heart and soul into the residents. It doesn't have the extra amenities that some people might like, but they are extra caring with the residents which is the most important thing to me. The staff just goes above and beyond what you would expect. They communicate with me, and they reach out to me. They take the lead in my dad's care very proactively. You would not have to worry about your loved one there. "

"Grand Oaks Assisted Living looked attractive. The apartments, although small, were very nicely done. The staff was very friendly. They showed me some of the community activity areas that looked attractive, too. It was inviting and upscale. The sales rep was very focused on what I was saying and attentive. He just made a good impression on me. I liked the dining area. It felt like a nice upscale restaurant, rather than just kind of a cafeteria feeding place."

"I toured Modena Reserve at Kensington. It was beautiful. It was open and light. I liked the restaurant set up for the dining. It was very pleasant. They had a lot of activities, and the rooms were nice. Everything was great. The staff was wonderful, very pleasant, and very helpful. They had a lot of lectures. They had music, physical therapy, and other therapies in the building."

"The Terraces At Tuckerman Lane are for people that need assisted living. But for what it was, that place was extremely clean and beautiful. When I was there, they were having happy hour, and they offered wine and popcorn or something like that. That place was very nice, but the rooms were extremely small. I didn't see anything like an exercise room, and I don't know if those people are capable. They didn't look like functioning adults as they did at the other place. The staff were extremely nice. Even though they knew that I wasn't interested, they insisted on the tour. I realized it wasn't what I was looking for, but they were very courteous and spent a lot of time with me."

"Sunrise at Fox Hill is very nice. It has everything that I think my mom would like. They have a greenhouse, and she loves flowers. They have a nice dining room. There are different floors and different options for eating at any time of the day. They have activities. They have a very friendly staff. It is very clean and well-kept. There are a lot of different models you can choose from. That was the one that stood out to me. It's very beautiful. I looked at the menu. It was a nice and well-balanced meal, and they had different options, so that was very good. The staff who showed me around was very informative and very nice. She had a lot of examples of her own family and what they needed and how she would recommend it even to our own family. She was very informative, very nice, and friendly to us."

"My father has moved into Care Personnel Healthcare Inc. His room is extremely clean and cozy. I don't know the specific activities that they have right now. It is kind of cold outside, so he can't really go outside right now. They have games that are there, if he wishes to play them. The staff is excellent and very caring. I have been there every day since my father has been there, and it is absolutely spotless. He came from rehab, where he wasn't eating at all. The staff is getting him to eat a little bit more. Right now, he is really only taking oatmeal and soup, which is an improvement over what it was. I'm not sure if he has tried solid food yet, but they are very encouraging about getting him to eat. During the nicer weather, they have things outside, but he can't do that now."

"Apple Blossoms is the place where you want to place your precious loved one if they need a quiet environment with exquisitely attentive care. The patient, experienced nurses and the director provide individualized attention for each of the residents. There are homemade meals provided three times a day, with two snacks. Also, the director provides tailored additions, reflecting some of the resident’s preferences. Having the security of one’s own room within a pleasant house on a quiet street made the transition much easier for my beloved mother, helping her to end her days in that loving environment. Apple Blossoms places its emphasis on relationships, not fancy rooms. It is watchful for anything that might affect their health or comfort. "Emeritus at Potomac is a really nice facility. The staff are really nice as well, but the problem is if you ran out of money, you are out on the streets. They do have trips that the residents can go on. Emeritus would have been my second choice if I had the money because it is very comfortable. It's in a nice location, and really it's just a nice place. The people were very friendly and nice. "

"The big question people have when they put their beloved family member in assisted living is whether the staff is caring and will be kind to them. I had a lot of anxiety about this before my father moved in, especially as he suffered from dementia, but I found the company has some wonderful devoted staff. There is an angelic woman who is the activities coordinator in the memory care unit and always took the time to help me talk to my dad through an ipad she had when he could not follow calls well. I will always be grateful to her and others."
