"Homecrest Assisted Living was a nice house, but it didn't have the outdoor setting like the one where my mom lives now. They put their residents to bed after lunch, and I didn't like that. The staff member was great. She was very knowledgeable and very sweet. The place was very updated, but it was run more like a business and not a home. The rooms looked very nice. They had a nice exercise room and they had a lot of activities. They had a nice living room with a TV."

"The staff at Grace House was lovely during our tour, and it was a pretty nice facility. But it just didn't seem as vibrant as I was hoping. The rooms were ok, they were fairly decent in size but there wasn't a lot to choose from. They had a whole day's schedule when we were there. The residents were participating in some sort of game and some of them seemed to be engaged in some of them. The hallways were a little bit dark and not as bright as I had hoped they would be. They had a salon and a chapel."

"The staff at Sunrise of Rockville is phenomenal. We met with the activity coordinator and she's a true gem. She has been there for eight years. It is an older place, but there are some staff members that have been there the entire time. To me that really speaks about the continuity and that people want to be there. Several of the staff members referred to it as their home; like an extension of their family. It is also very evident with the quality and the attention that we receive from them. Sunrise of Rockville was dated, but it wasn't terrible. There did not have the bells and whistles that we saw at the other places; however, the people there were just precious. We had some interactions with a resident who was just a lot of fun, and very encouraging to my mom. It was a very pleasant vibe. Because of the people there, it's definitely a place we're still considering. They're very accommodating. They're very active. They were very open to new ideas and they had extensive activities scheduled."

"The receptionist is very accommodating and also the rest of the staff. The assisted living facilities had nice bedrooms with regular beds. They have activities which included choral groups entertainment, bingos and crosswords. They have very nice programs and the residents can take trips. "

"I toured Modena Reserve at Kensington. They give housekeeping, and your rent covers utilities and TV. The staff is good. They insist on not having lunch in the rooms, you had to go down the halls to the large dining room. It's $800 for meals for the month and you pay to park $75 a month. For the bus to take you anywhere, it has to be within ten miles. They also encourage individualized cooking. It's not a CCRC. It has assisted living, but not medical care. I also didn't like the fact that they were for-profit and so they were more expensive. The outdoor space is nice, big, and open."

"AlfredHouse looked like a nice place, but they didn't offer apartment-sized rooms for my mother. They were a little short on amenities. There was a common room that was kind of a multipurpose room. I was a little disappointed with that, too. It appeared that the care was good. However, the lack of activities would be the reason I wouldn't give them a 5."

"Cadence Living Olney is lovely. The facility is really good. We looked at a studio and a one-bedroom. The studio was lovely. They both had a small kitchen facility, but we liked the one bedroom, just to have that extra space. We viewed the physical therapy room, activities room, and dining room. Everything was so pretty and people were so friendly. I was impressed by that. They have a nice screened-in porch and there's a nature preserve behind, which was a nice feature, to have those trees behind you and then a walkway all around the place. They all seemed genuinely friendly. We saw interactions between staff and residents there, and they were all positive. My son and daughter-in-law ate lunch there and talked with three of the residents who were all very positive about the place and happy living there. They like the food."

"The people at Emeritus seemed very nice. The people who worked and lived there were accommodating in making arrangement for me to see it. The have different amenities. "

"I chose Raphael House because it was nice and they would give me a subsidy. The staff are taking good care with her. They have an exercise class, dance class for seniors and they do gardening. Those are the only ones that my mother does participate, but I know they also do knitting and I think they have chorale groups come in. "

They have an in-house doctor who comes. They have a person that comes in and does activities twice a week. The staff was professional and courteous. I know they cook fresh."
