"I toured Hessler Heights Gracious Retirement Living. What I like best is the food service, the housekeeping, the beauty of the facility, and the proximity to walking trails. What I liked the least was that too many people were using walkers. Terry is very charismatic, genuine, and good to work with. The other staff members I met were all very genuine and kind people. I studied their menu, and I was impressed by it. They had snacks provided, and I had a delicious apple. The decor was beautiful, and I love the fact that they have a gym. It doesn't have everything I would want in a gym, but they have a gym that is good for people who use walkers. The size of the rooms was adequate, probably more than I expected. The layout was very good, with a very spacious feeling."

"We toured it. It was lovely. I wish I could live there. It was so beautiful. I thought the facility was great. They did have a special at that time for how much it would cost, which was also great. We learned that with the level of care that they have, they do not put railings on the bed. My father-in-law must have railings on the bed because he cannot move or walk, but he could fall out of bed. The staff was lovely and informative. The structure and cleanliness were excellent. It's only less than five years old. The layout was very nice for someone who can take care of themselves, but if they needed more assistance, the doors seemed to be kind of far away from someone in a bed calling for help, but I'm sure that they've had other measurements, but we just didn't go into it."

"Cadence Living Olney is lovely. The facility is really good. We looked at a studio and a one-bedroom. The studio was lovely. They both had a small kitchen facility, but we liked the one bedroom, just to have that extra space. We viewed the physical therapy room, activities room, and dining room. Everything was so pretty and people were so friendly. I was impressed by that. They have a nice screened-in porch and there's a nature preserve behind, which was a nice feature, to have those trees behind you and then a walkway all around the place. They all seemed genuinely friendly. We saw interactions between staff and residents there, and they were all positive. My son and daughter-in-law ate lunch there and talked with three of the residents who were all very positive about the place and happy living there. They like the food."

"I liked Wingler House. The apartment was pretty nice. The bathroom was a little small, and the kitchen was a little small, but it had a pantry for the kitchen, which I liked. The person who toured me was fine, but not very pleasant. They had more activities than some of the others, like exercise classes. They also had vans that go places."

"I went to Victory Court Senior Apartments. It was very nice. The woman there was very pleasant. It was a nice visit. The general appearance is very clean and very quiet. Everything was just very spotless. I had a chance to meet one or two of the residents. They looked very content, as to be expected, slightly bored, but it was nice. The ladies in the office were very friendly and very informative. Most of the units have a kitchen, whether it's a small kitchen or a larger kitchen for the two-or three-bedrooms. They have a common area where they have get-togethers. The rooms are very simple. There are small islands in the kitchens. For the most part, very clean, very modern facilities. When you get to the two- and three-bedroom units, I think you can request that they have a washer and dryer. The amenities are really nice. Everything is very convenient. "

"Everyone at The Ridge at Sterling was especially friendly. They let us have lunch on our tour and the food was wonderful. The facility is going through a renovation. They've made really good choices with the materials they've chosen. Its flooring is good for walkers and wheelchairs. The coloring is nice, light, and friendly in appearance. The design of the building is nice and spacious. The rooms are big with nice windows. The dining area was a lot like a restaurant. It was nicely decorated for Christmas. Everyone was positive like the staff interacting with the residents. It was a very positive environment. Everything seemed nice."

"The Cascades of Frederick was nicer than the other place I toured. The staff was very nice. The rooms were very nice. It's a brand-new building. They had a rec room, a library-type room where you can go in and read books, and a small exercise room. If I was going to stay in Maryland, I probably would go there."

"I saw Country Meadows of Frederick. It was the independent living tour, although they also showed us assisted living in case I need that later. I like the fact that they have a lot of different things that you can do there. I got to see a one-bedroom apartment, but I didn't get to see a two-bedroom, which is what I want because I will have guests. The one-bedroom that I saw was fine, but that's not what I want. The food plan and everything there seems fine. The dining program seems good. There were many different places where you could eat. It wasn't just one, so that was good. There were good amenities. The staff was very accommodating. He showed us everything. He was a very good person. He gave us some cookies to take home. He said if we come back again, he wants us to come for lunch. He said they have transportation. Upkeep was good."

"We toured the Edenton. The thing that I liked the best is it's very consolidated in terms of the fact that there are lots of things to do and a lot of activities going on in the same building. To me, the thing that has the greatest appeal is the fact that there is independent living now. There are 45 cottages. Each one is individual, just like a little miniature community. Each one has the name of a different kind of apple, and that refers to the size and the kind of facility that is, like Macintosh, Golden Delicious, and so forth. The thing that I liked the least that can be overcome is the fact that in many of these independent homes, little homes, there are no washers and dryers. The staff was wonderful. They were very warm. They really seem to care about the residents there. Most of the staff members have been there for a long time. They just don't come and go all the time. The person with whom we spoke in marketing had been there for 18 years. The executive director has been there for six or eight years. They're all long-timers. We met the chef and the chef talked to us. The food was great. The cleanliness was terrific. The structure was wonderful. The community house itself is big. I think it's an old mansion, but it doesn't look old. I mean, it's very well-kept. There's a separate facility for the restaurant, which is also extremely well-kept and very well laid out. The atmosphere was friendly."

"My experience here at Spring Ridge Senior has been pretty good. It's a nice community. It's getting to be a little expensive, but the apartment I'm in is a one-bedroom, one-bath. It's about 680 square feet and it's a good size for one person. It's a decent community. It has its own issues, but that's with any place you go. You cook your own meals, but they provide dinner/luncheon whenever they have something going on in the community room. That only happens maybe once a month. They don't have a pool on this site, but they have a community pool because there are a lot of townhomes, single-family homes, and condos back here and we're the only senior place up in this area. So, the community center has a pool for everybody, which I don't go to because there are too many people. This is just one building, but it's like a T shape on each side. I walk through the building especially, during the winter months. You can walk the three flights easily and go from one corner (one side of the building) to the other corner, which is good because you get good exercise (they have an exercise room though). They have a computer room and a nice big lobby area where your mailboxes are and where you could sit out and talk to some of the others. It's a secure building. You have to have a key fob to get in and there's an intercom system. If somebody wants to come to visit, they have to ring your apartment and you can let them in."
