"I was the legal guardian for 2 people whom I had to place at Rock Creek Manor Nursing Home. They were very helpful and attentive with both of the residents. My brother, who was psychotic was one of the two people I had placed there. The nurses were very kind to my brother and with Miss Weber. The management team were very helpful with me as the guardian. Of course, I would visit the two people I had placed there at least every other day. The facility was also clean and as the facility was a "lock down" facility I knew that my brother and Miss Weber were both safe and would not wander off."

"I have visited the Washington Center for Aging Services in the past (last year and the year before) work related meetings. It appeared to be very nice and clean. The residents that were around during the visits I made seemed to be well cared for. I have known people that placed their loved ones in the facility and have heard mixed reviews of the quality of care they were receiving. In the same month from two different families. one, according to the family, was receiving really good care; the other was ready to pull his wife from the facility. "

"Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home does not smell like old people, it does not smell like antiseptic, it does not smell like a hospital, and it does not smell like anything. The place is immaculate. It is so clean. They have a huge staff. I think they have 164 beds, and they have a staff of like 200. They have a lot of people attending to the patients. I went there at different times of the day, and every time I went, my mom was clean, happy, and healthy. They do not just leave people lying around in beds getting bedsores. I like the way they get them up and out into the day room where they can interact with other patients -- or other residents rather -- because they do not treat them like patients. They treat them like people who live there. The staff is very attentive like they are there all the time. They are very caring, and they treat the residents with respect and affection; I love that. My mother is very happy there. She’s well cared for, and I’m happy. She has dementia, so she does not do too much of the activities, but they do have games. They go on outings even. It is a very nice place. I am very comfortable leaving her there. The only thing I do not like about them is the parking situation. They have a parking lot, but it is very small. "

On a pleasant wooded campus, it has more of a suburban, peaceful vibe"”even though it's in the heart of the city. It's medium-sized facility, about 200 beds or so, and very well managed. It does have a hospital feel, but not in a bad way. The building is an older one, but well maintained and clean. There are also some homey touches inside, such as artwork hung in the hallways"”and the entire place is nicely decorated. The rooms are average-sized, and some are private, with bathrooms in each suite. The staff members are very skilled and welcoming"”and there seem to be an adequate number of them. They are knowledgeable about the patients and their needs"”and communicate well with outside caregivers. Carroll Manor is a popular place"”a lot of people like the easy transition to a caring facility from the hospital. So one possible drawback may be that no beds are available when needed. Medicaid is accepted. "

"When I visited the facility it was clean everyone was willing to help. the residents have their daily activites planned and from what I can see they are all pretty much independent. then I proceeded to another floor in the facility a little more hustle and bustle the resident was in their chairs in the hall waiting on there food tray a little agaitated the nurse would come over and talk to them like they really cared about what they thought they were going through(most of them thought they weren't going to get their food) this floor broke my heart and then the nurses were so completed intuned with the clients that it fixed it right back up theses nurses are very caring about the individuals that that care for. "

"Methodist Home is in a nice location in upper northwest DC on Connecticut Avenue, where there are plenty of trees and benches outside for residents to enjoy. It offers all levels of care from independent living through skilled nursing care. The entire place appears to be organized and managed very well. The building is a little older, but well maintained. There is an older style of décor, giving it the feeling of an old luxurious place. All residents have their own apartments, complete with microwaves and sinks. And the units are pretty big"”with a sitting area and separate living room, kitchen area and bathroom. One nice feature is a gorgeous dining area with high ceilings and big window. It's very inviting, and family members can come in and have meals there. Lots of options are available for food choices every day. Pets are allowed here, as long as residents take care of them. And some residents say that while their own kids may not come to visit often, they always have their pets"”which is a great comfort. Varied activities are offered, including outings to local cultural events and wine and cheese hours. There is a nurse on staff, and because it's a small place, the caregivers really seem to be knowledgeable and stay on top of residents' care and changing needs. They are also very collaborative in working with outside agencies and family members. Methodist Home has a separate health center where residents can go to get their medications. And the facility also accepts Care Share, so that a number of residents who can live somewhat independently can share the cost of aides who will check in at intervals. This allows them to get more care, but is much more economical than hiring a one-on-one aide. The cost is moderate to high for the area. "

"The rooms were kept clean, bright, and spacious. The food was very good. They had a team of food specialists who were able to prepare meals for special diets. There was regular communication with the nurses concerning my relative's care. The physical therapists were the reason my aunt was able to walk again, after having been hospitalized for months with blood clots."

"My grandmother is in the Washington Nursing Facility and has been for 2 years. She is very happy there because there are many amazing staffers that make her day pleasant. She feels as if she is in a community that cares about her and wants to give her a happy life, rather than a depressing facility that makes people depressed. When I visit, I never dread going because all of the residents are so happy with the many activities available to them. There are arts and crafts that go on at certain times, there are games, movies, and dogs even come to visit as a therapeutic addition to the residents. The staff is well-versed in geriatrics and how to keep elders healthy and happy. I always feel very comfortable leaving after visiting my grandmother because I know she is in good hands. I think one of the most important part of an assisted living facility is that they know how to keep the morale of the residents high. I think Washington Nursing Facility does an excellent job of this. "

"Sacred Heart was a very compasionate place. The nuns there truly seemed to care about the residents and their care. When a resident died they treated the deceased with dignity, not just seeming to try to get rid of the deceased, but comforting the family and making sure the family was informed in a timely and compassionate manner. They took true care in who they hired to work with the patients, and took great care in their feeding and care. "

"My mother was a resident of Knollwood for many years. It is a "progressive living" facility with independent living, assisted living, and nursing care. I am familiar with five other facilities that my father-in-law has lived in and Knollwood is by far the best I have seen.The facility as a whole is large so has a lot of amenities that smaller facilities might not have - beautiful grounds, a guesthouse, a chapel, a small store, and a swimming pool among them. There are many activities and clubs. Knollwood was originally a home for the wives of military officers and WACs and there is still a strong military influence in the speakers, excursions, and activities. It is a pet charity for many Officers' Wives Clubs and other groups.My mother received excellent care in the nursing home section. She was always clean, never had a hint of a bedsore, and was watched carefully. The on-staff dietician supervises all residents' diets and observes their likes and dislikes as well as their need for assistance. I live 600 miles away so communication was very important. The quarterly care conference was conducted over the phone. I was called with questions and kept up-to-date on any changes in her condition.The only reason I did not give Knollwood five stars is because of staff turn-over. The aides and nursing staff is very stable but some of auxiliary staff especially the social workers turn over very quickly.I would recommend Knollwood. "

"Very clean facility! The rooms are clean but unfortunately there are two beds per room. Very friendly and caring staff. Dialysis center in the facility. I would have given it five stars if they were not using tap water for feed tube flush and for taking medications while there was an Arlington county boiled water advisory in place!"

"My mother did well at Deanwood Rehab & Wellness Center. They had her do physical therapy. Every time I came, they were working with her, and the therapist was really good to her. The room was clean. She was complaining about her roommate, but other than that everything was really good. The nurses made sure she took her medicines, and I told them if anything happened, call me no matter what time it was. One time at 1:00 in the morning they called me when she tried to get out of bed. "

"My husband is staying in Sligo Creek Center. He has been there since June 18th. In terms of location, it takes me almost an hour to get to him there. He also said that he has a little problem with them. He said they hadn't given him a bath. He weighs about 230 and they said that they didn't have a chair for the shower for him. He was supposed to get a shower at least twice a week. So he was upset about that. He is sharing a room with another patient and he doesn't like that. He likes to be by himself. They do keep his room clean though. They also have a calendar of activities but he doesn't participate in any of them. With regard to the staff, he said that some of the staff did not want to tend to him. He said the food is good but sometimes he said he doesn't like it. In general, I don't think the food there is that bad. "
