I visited the New Horizon Assisted Living LLC in Bowie for my friend. We are choosing it for him because it's close, literally 10 minutes away from me, and it's nice. The community is also smaller than the facility where he is now. There are not as many residents. The capacity, I believe, is five or six, and I like the care. I had a chance to meet the owner and speak with the person who takes care of the patients. I asked a lot of questions, and I just thought the setting would be perfect or a better fit for my friend. The place was well-maintained, super clean, and everything was in its place. The in-home person who takes care of the patients went through her daily routine with the residents. She went over the time of the meals and the type of meals that they prepare. She also asked me questions about my friend's mobility and his cognitive abilities. She asked me multiple questions that I was happy about, because there were a few questions that I would not have thought to mention to her. She informed me that there is an alternate person who comes in on the weekends. She pretty much let me know what goes on in the house and what does not, in terms of recognizing certain events and holidays that they do not celebrate. It's just something that they don't do, but the families are still welcome to celebrate with their family members there, if we choose to.

My dad is currently in New Horizon Assisted Living LLC. It has an open space, and there's more room for the residents to walk around. It's a small community, and it is clean. The staff there doesn't tell me too much. The place is clean and everything is spaced out. It has wooden floors, and it's easier for them to move around. They have a dining area and a little courtyard where the residents can go out and sit.

New Horizon Assisted Living is a private home. It's in the old section of Bowie, Maryland, in the Somerset section. It's not too bad. No activities. It's got a great caretaker and she has a big heart and she takes care of us. I'm pretty self-sufficient. There are other people that need diaper change and I don't need that stuff. The caretaker is here, except on weekends. She's got a replacement on the weekends. They're good people. The only problem is, there is not much medical care. I've never seen a doctor or nurse. Nothing like that. They need to update their prescription list because before I started here, I came right out of the hospital and they were giving me what the hospital prescribed, but now I don't get any. It's just kind of hit or miss, like any other place. The caretaker is a good cook. The other one is a zero. She's a terrible cook. She's from Guyana and she cooks strange foreign stuff. It's an old Bowie house. They got four bedrooms in one house so there's four of us here. It's expensive.
