Assisted Living Communities in Greenville, SC

"Oakview Park was an older building that has been renovated and converted. It was very tastefully done and very elegant in décor. The rooms were a little small. The lady who helped us was very nice, talked with us, and gave us a tour. She also let us talk with several of the residents and staff. They were getting ready to go out on a trip when I was there. I liked the common areas for gatherings or activities. They did not have as much of an outdoor area there, just a really small courtyard. I like the facility and the people. They were nice, professional, welcoming, courteous, and respectful and you could tell the residents really like them."

"Our tour experience at The Residences of Greer was good. It was a really nice place. The lady that gave us the tour was really sweet, nice, and informative. While the other ones have a price for room and board and a price for medication, at The Residences of Greer these are included in one price, and that to me was good. That was a plus for them. They are a two-level facility, so we weren't crazy about that just because of that. We would rather have my mom in a one-level place. The activities and stuff are on the second floor with all the residents. Some of the residents are downstairs, too, but they go upstairs to do the dining and all that stuff. That's all on the second level. Memory care has their own courtyard and their own wing of the place. Their rooms are the same. They're just small rooms with no kitchenette in the memory care part. It's a newer building. They were painting and updating it, but they had been there for probably five or six years."

"My sister moved into Brookstone Terrace of Simpsonville. My brother went on a tour first because he lives in that area. And then I went up and we took my sister with us, and she liked it. People were very kind and caring and seemed very professional, but they also seemed fun and I wanted my sister to have fun along with good care. So we went ahead and signed a contract and moved in on March 1st. Their staff has been so good. If I have a question, I call and they get right back to me. They answer my questions. They take very good care of her and they honestly care about her as a person. My sister is enjoying their food. Her room is kept well, and the facility itself is kept well, but I'm just kind of a neat freak. I've seen a lot of their activities because they have a Facebook page and my sister has been involved in just about all of them. But they do crafts, and they do mind stimulating games, and they play bingo, and they've played hot potato to a lot of things where there's physical interaction with the group. They just make it fun. They do a ball toss with a big parachute thing with a group. So she's been participating in almost everything."

"Mom has been in Manning Square for three years now. I like it, but it's a lot. You have to go in the door, push the button for them to open the door for you, and then push the button for them to leave the residence. I guess they do that so the residents can't go out, but the only concern I don't like is I don't have the key myself to the code to go in and out. I have to keep pushing the button and it doesn't make a difference. I come in at 9:00, there's nobody up there and it takes them 15 minutes to get there. I understand that they don't want them to have the code to get in and out, but I just don't see why the residents' families cannot have a code to come in and out. When I take her out, I have to come back at 10:00. I like the room that Mom has. She's in her own room. They can have animals there too, but there is an extra charge for that. Mom had her animal for probably about two years and then people complained because he barked a lot so they had to make me get that animal out, which I can understand. They have things to do. They take them out on Fridays to different places. They do crafts and stuff there if you want to do it. The nurses and the staff do the best that they can do. So, they do pretty good."

"The one thing I liked about Viva Senior Living at Easley is that they will take reservations. A lot of places won't reserve space for respite care, but they will. That's one reason we picked them. I liked everything about it. They were very personable. They seem to have plenty of help from what I observed when I was there. I like the facility. I like the layout and the cleanliness of it. The staff was very good. The rooms were nice. The atmosphere was comfortable."

"We chose The Willows of Easley for my mom because I like the people there. She has a standard room, the food is average, but the staff was superb, that was the defining factor. They have a whole bunch of activities, but most of the people who are on assisted living aren't able to take advantage of those as much as the independent living. She tells me they have games, readings, concerts, and things like that. The living experience has been fine so far, and we're very pleased."

"I went to Brookstone Terrace of Woodruff. I didn't like it because it had the smell of a retirement home. It's an older facility. It was a gentleman that was the director who gave me the tour of the whole thing. He sat down with me and he went over a lot of things that I hadn't thought about and things that would have to be done. He gave me a lot of useful information. They were all semi-private rooms and they have their own beds, their own dressers. You did not bring any furniture, other than their favorite chair. The dining area was large, and all the furniture looked new. It's in Woodruff, which is about a 45-minute drive for me to go to. They do trips, although typically the trips are just in downtown Woodruff, and Woodruff is just a small town. Upkeep and maintenance were pretty good, and I didn't see any paint on the walls peeling off and there was no evidence of leaks in the roof."

"The Inverness at Spartanburg is a pretty good place, they take care of my grandfather just fine. I was looking for the least expensive community and this is the lowest one I could find, so I'm satisfied where he's at. The staff is pretty good, and hospice would also come in three times a week. They've got stuff and activities for the residents to do. They also have a TV room, puzzle room, and they've also got physical therapy. He's in a shared room there, but if you wanted you can get a private room and pay more money. He has to have his food pureed there."

"We toured The Pines at Greenville Assisted Living & Memory Care. It's family owned and operated, so we feel like they're going to pay more attention to what's going on in the facility. They have a great staff. The dining area is beautiful. It's like a little village inside. They have a nice garden and a front porch. It's a nice facility. I like the staff, too."

"The Gardens At Eastside services all types of people. They have several diferent areas, they're secure and the staff is wonderful. My mothers room is beautiful. It's very pretty and they have several dining areas that were close to people's rooms. They have entertainment, therapy and exercise classes. They also have a beauty salon and they do fieldtrips. They have a car and a bus that takes people to appointments. It is very close to establishments. "

"We chose here for my father more because of the cost. The people seem to care about the residents, but they don't do a whole lot activity-wise. He's been diagnosed with dementia, and they take him out to the common area, and they play bingo and do some word games. He's in the locked side. The menu looked like school lunches. It had meat, vegetables, lasagna, salad, and pancakes, sausage and eggs for breakfast. They do three meals and one or two snacks a day. The people are extremely nice. I just wish the facilities are a little nicer. They provide the bed, dresser, chair, and pretty much everything that he needs. It's not a bad building, but it's not as attractive as the others. It doesn't smell bad, and they seem to keep it fairly clean. He's in diapers now, and they're keeping him clean. We've been very pleased and happy with what we've seen."
