My mom is staying in Brookstone Terrace of Simpsonville. The facility itself is beautiful. It's clean, nice, and new. We just have a little trouble with the help sometimes. We really don't feel like they're doing everything that they could be doing. We're having to take turns to go up and give my mom a bath and change her clothes because she wore the same clothes for four or five days, and that's kind of frustrating for us. I'm about an hour and 15 minutes away, and even though I don't work, it is time consuming to go up there, and it takes a whole day. Some of the staff members seem like they care, and some of them it's just a job. They have crafts and they try to do activities with them. They don't take them outside as much as I would like them to. I feel like all of them need to go outside when it's pretty. They don't do that a lot, and they don't encourage that a lot. It kind of aggravates my sister and me. I go two or three times a week, and every time I go there, these three or four ladies all they ever do is sleep, they never get up, and they don't go to lunch. When I go and talk to them, they would get up and move around, but nobody really seems to push that. The dining area is fine. The food is good if it is a non-resident eating it. A lot of the people don't have any teeth. They only have a few teeth. We've actually complained about it and had several talks with them, but the managers keep changing. You kind of feel like you're a hamster on a wheel. We get really frustrated with that because they bring like a big piece of ham, but nobody eats it because they can't chew it up and they can't eat it. My sister and I bring a lot of stuff from home and try to keep stuff in my mom's fridge and all, but everybody doesn't have that. I see a lot of them when they bring them their dinner or lunch, they just push it away because they can't eat it, and I feel so bad for them. The place itself, the biggest part of it, is clean and maintained. It's very nice. But I have to go in my mom's room and mop it.
What you can do with Caring
About Brookstone Terrace of Simpsonville in Simpsonville, South Carolina
We are the only Integrated community in the entire area. This will prove to be important to you as we do not segregate our memory care residents. All other communities have segregated standalone memory care which in my opinion is very depressing and isolating. Here all our residents live together whether they are independent, needing assistance or even dealing with mid to late-stage dementia. I assure you; you will not find an atmosphere anywhere like ours and at a very affordable rate. Please let me know what day and time will work best for you. I look forward to helping you better understand the benefits of our Integrated setting. To learn more about this providers license and review other available state reports, please visit: South Carolina Department of Public Health

My sister moved into Brookstone Terrace of Simpsonville. My brother went on a tour first because he lives in that area. And then I went up and we took my sister with us, and she liked it. People were very kind and caring and seemed very professional, but they also seemed fun and I wanted my sister to have fun along with good care. So we went ahead and signed a contract and moved in on March 1st. Their staff has been so good. If I have a question, I call and they get right back to me. They answer my questions. They take very good care of her and they honestly care about her as a person. My sister is enjoying their food. Her room is kept well, and the facility itself is kept well, but I'm just kind of a neat freak. I've seen a lot of their activities because they have a Facebook page and my sister has been involved in just about all of them. But they do crafts, and they do mind stimulating games, and they play bingo, and they've played hot potato to a lot of things where there's physical interaction with the group. They just make it fun. They do a ball toss with a big parachute thing with a group. So she's been participating in almost everything.

My mother is in here. It's a new facility, it's really pretty on the outside when you approach it and the layout is very nice. Scuffletown Road is almost like a country road, so it's like in a country setting. It's set back off the road, you don't hear any of the traffic, and it's really nice. Because of Covid, it's really limited as far as going in, but the staff that I've dealt with, including the director, was very nice and very helpful. Some of the staff that I have dealt with or talked to on the phone, because I can't get in to check on my mother and see how she is, have been very nice and very helpful. They do bingo and some little crafting projects. Those are the only ones that I know of right now that she's been involved in. I haven't talked to my mother since she's been in there. She just went in and there's a transition period, they say, to let them get acquainted. It's probably gonna be another week or so before I speak to her, and that is going to be on the phone right now because of Covid. They have no open visiting. The layout that I've seen at the front, other than seeing the virtual tour was very nice. The price is all inclusive. But then there's all these little packages that are added to it that you need. Whereas in memory care, they're all inclusive, and the cost compared to others may be a little high, but worth it.

My husband is in here. We chose it because we had a good deal with them, it's closer to my home, and the care that they give him. The others were too far from where I live. The staff members are fine; my husband likes it there. He is well cared for. We can't visit it being locked down since March. We did a virtual tour. They showed me the whole facility. I like it. My husband seems to like it. He's comfortable where he is.

My wife was there for two months during her last days. Such a beautiful place to reside! She received excellent care by the loving and caring staff. All of the people there are so friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in need of tender loving care for their loved ones. Kay was in good hands on her journey to heaven.

We found here for my sister. The place is built like a circle, so even if she wanders around, she'll come back into the main dining area. Each hallway where the rooms are set off around the side, had different colors, so she would know which color to go to for her room. They have activities and nurses 24 hours. Even the staff up front used to be nurses and are well trained. They have activity times, movie time, chapel time, and a beauty salon. They're so well taken care of. She has a room all to herself, and her bedroom door is left open most of the time, so she won't get lost in different places. The staff is very good and keeps me well informed, and the doctor goes to her room to see her. There's a library there. They can have hospice come in if she becomes less mobile.
