We looked at Gateway Care and Retirement for a visit. It was an average place, nothing great or terrible. They are not as big on activities as the other places, but they do have occasional visits to places and things going on at the place that you can participate in. They have parking there, but you need to pay $100.

I had to leave in a hurry, leaving behind valuable items because they said they had no control over the residents in the Independent wing over masks and social distancing. I walked past the dining area, one lunchtime, and there were at least twenty people seated at tables no more than three feet apart. None of them were wearing masks. I have had autoimmune diseases could not risk getting Covid-19, fearing my body would not handle it. I left without a 30-day notice and they are charging me for the full month of October. Plus they added on a mysterious $575 sum. AND they have tried to return my valuable MacPro Computer. They insist I get on risky public transportation to come to their risky location to pick up my valuables. My life is worth more than my valuables.

Gateway Retirement was not as professional. You had to go through the rehab center before you get to your room on the other side of the building, and it left a sad feeling. They had a small, dismal meal room. The building didn't seem as bright, and the guide wasn't cheery, but the rooms were large. They were asking me financial information right at the get go, like they wanted to make sure I had enough money to stay there, and that put me off.

Gateway had two different sections across the street from each other and my grandmother didn't want to have to go to two separate places. However, everybody was awesome, really great, really accommodating, very helpful with questions, and very knowledgeable about everything. The rooms were very nice, spacious and clean. Another thing that grandma didn't like was the pricing included three meals a day whether she ate or not, and sometimes she doesn't eat.

We went to Gateway Care and Retirement for our mother. It was very, very good. I could move into this one myself if I was retired. The people with whom we had conversations were extremely helpful. The location was good. I would have moved our mother quite quickly, but it looked at the time as though she had deteriorated to the point where she might have needed somewhat better care, more comprehensive care, than they were set up to provide. Their common dining room was a large open space with round tables. People could sit five or six to a table. It was really clean, and it was very nice. The rooms were spacious and well organized. The bathrooms were excellent. The atmosphere was welcoming, and that was impressive.
Provider Response
We have three levels of care including nursing home and post acute care.

Gateway is OK; it is affordable for me. My room is very small. There were a couple of times I don't think they had near enough for people to eat, but most of the time it is OK though.
Provider Response
We have small studios, large studios, large studios with kitchenette, and one bedroom apartments. We also provide three meals per day, weekly housekeeping, linen laundry services and daily activities starting at $1,050.00per month.
