Assisted Living Communities in Happy Valley, OR

"I moved to CherryWood Village and started in their independent living community. I chose it for myself because it's close to my son. It also has everything that I could need. It has a theater, a chapel, a library, physical therapy, a pool, and even a little golf course. The food is excellent, and there's a wide variety of it available. The service and staff are excellent, too. Everybody is friendly, extremely kind, and helpful. I'm in physical therapy, and we have a pool, so I'm also doing water aerobics. Walking all around the area is delightful here, too. It's a safe environment, and it's very easy to walk around in."

"The Courtyard at Mt.Tabor was very nice. I liked it because there was a lot of space. There were two memory care facilities there. I loved them both because there was a lot of room. Activity directors were there and working. It seemed like everybody was enjoying themselves, and they were happy, which was important to me. They looked like they were content and smiling, so they were comfortable. What I liked about this one are the colors, which were green. It looked very nice and was well-kept. I liked the way it was laid out so that the memory care patients couldn't get lost because they just went around a circle. I like the rooms. I like everything about it. Their staff was very attentive. They were all very friendly and had smiles on their faces. They seemed to be doing their job and liking it."

"I've visited Sapphire at Firwood Gardens. The people were really friendly, the place was nice and clean, and the building itself was not rundown. The only thing I didn't like was that where my dad would have been there, he'd have to take an elevator and would have to go all the way outside to smoke. So that wasn't a fit for him. The staff seemed helpful, were nice about showing me around, and answered my questions. It seems like they offer a lot of things that the seniors would need. And they have a side that's memory care, so if they started at assisted living, they can transfer out to memory care, so I like that."

"We went to Gilman Grove unannounced, and I was able to speak to the manager. He was available, and so he gave us a tour. He was very thorough. He took us into a private room, and we talked to him. The community was very clean, remodelled, and very nice. The menu looked good, and the dining area was very nice."

"My grandmother was so well cared for and loved by the Bortes family. We were always so pleased with our visits with the family and their sweet children, we are comforted knowing she was genuinely happy during the final months of her life. "

"I toured McLoughlin Place Senior Living. It seemed nice, and people were very happy. It was nice that my mom could keep her cats because they're important to her. The staff was very friendly. They have a nice little seating area out front for people."

"The best thing about living here is the young man at the desk. I believe his name is Tyler and he is the sweetest young man, he understands us old folks. We just love him, he always try to accommodate me to the best of his knowledge."

"I toured Columbia Place Assisted Living. It's clean and comfortable-looking. I would stay there if I could. It's efficient, and the director who showed me around was very helpful. The apartments and studios that were available at the time were nice and clean. They had a kitchenette, and those were nice. They had a memory care section. They had everything figured out as to the evaluation of the patient, where they should be, and what they should do to keep active. The menu, the cooking, the setup, the activities they had for them, the courtyard, everything just looked wonderful, and the area was great."

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."

"My mom moved into Prestige Senior Living Huntington Terrace. She's been there for 2 weeks under assisted living. I found it very easy to get everything all set up. Every person that we have run into who is an employee has been incredibly kind, caring, and helpful. There just seems to be a good energy in the building. Even residents have been cheerful in greeting us and welcoming Mom so that's been very nice. The staff have been amazing. They're so patient and kind which is exactly what someone needs in this situation. It's obvious they're there to support and care for Mom and that gives me a lot of comfort. I have no complaints with any staff members at this point. She hasn't been eating very well, but it's not the food. For her, the portions are too large but that's her own personal preference. I have seen the menu and it looks like a nice variety. I like that she has options if she doesn't like the main meal. Activities have multiple options every day, and they vary throughout the week. My mom has not participated in anything yet, though. One of the things we liked about it is that it was only assisted living so it's a much smaller facility. I thought it would be easier for Mom to get comfortable and learn her way around. When we toured, we got a lot of feedback from the staff. They introduced themselves, which was very nice. They were very welcoming and hoped we would choose them for mom and that was nice."

"I had a short meeting at Bonaventure of Gresham. I have friends who live there, and we meet with them every month or so. It's really nice. It's well kept and perhaps more modern because it was built not too long ago. I have two people living in assisted living, and one is in memory care. They seem to be happy. I noticed there's an activity room close by, and there were people there sitting, going through a number of physical exercises. It's very clean, very modern, and some of the staff are helping a lot. They're well represented by their people who take part in those activities. If we were to make a move somewhere, we'd probably start with Bonaventure because we have friends there. I like the appearance of the place. My interaction with the staff is excellent. They're good."

"I toured Calaroga Terrace, and I knew immediately it was not the right place for me. The person who took me around was the most vivacious and the most positive person. Debbie was wonderful. I think she was the marketing manager or the sales manager. She really was a dynamite person, but the place wasn't right for me. The sizes of the rooms were OK, but they did not have stoves. While I am 83, I still love to cook. They provide three meals a day, seven days a week. The place is older. It's a renovated hotel, but it looks tired. I wouldn't fit in there. It's the only high-rise that I toured. I noticed that there were birds that were using the windows on the ninth floor, and I wondered how often the windows got cleaned. Inside, the cleanliness was fine though. They had two libraries, a lounge on each floor, and a craft room. They had the typical amenities that almost all of these had."

"When we first started looking for a place for my mom, we were overwhelmed and unsure of what to expect. From the moment we walked into Markham House, something felt different. The staff greeted us with warmth, took time to answer every question, and made my mom feel seen and valued. Now, a few months in, she’s made friends, joined activities, and calls it her “new home.” Watching her smile again has been everything. We’re so thankful we found Markham House."

"Brookdale Mt. Hood was one of my favorite places. It was really nice. I think the best thing about Brookdale was the garden that they have. A bunch of units opened up into this garden area, where they could go out. The facility is sort of built around this big common garden area in the middle, rather than having to go outside. So, the green space was the nicest of all of them. Naomi was really nice. She was great. They also have a beauty shop, a place for exercise, a common area to do arts and crafts, and all of the really nice stuff."
