"It was a wonderful place, and we love it. Brookdale Wilsonville (Formerly Emeritus at Windfield Village) wasn't our first choice because it was a little more expensive, but we would've chosen them. They were very nice there, the food was excellent, and they had activities on every level. "

"The one I love is Glenmoore Gracious Retirement Living. It was so beautiful, light, and airy. I think my friend is going to move in there. We saw an apartment and it was beautiful. It has beautiful balconies. The lady who helped us was a five-plus. The lady was very gracious. She brought out all kinds of brochures. She answered all my friend's questions, showed us an apartment, toured us around everything, and introduced us to the bus driver. We talked to her for a while. It was just the most wonderful tour, so if I weren't going to consider the other place, I would consider this one. We had lunch there, and it was just delicious. I thought it was very nice that they not only offered the main course, but they had an alternative main course if you didn't care for that one. They had a vegetarian offering, too, so they catered to all types of palates. They don't have a pool. They have balconies though. It is very nice. "

"I toured Courtyard at Mt. Tabor. The woman who showed us around was very good. The facility seemed nice. I liked the location because it's close to my wife's daughter. It looked like they had a refrigerator and a stove in the units. However, they said it depends on the size of the apartment whether they get a microwave or not."

"A prime consideration in choosing Senior Independent Living at Calaroga Terrace was its central location and easy access to Portland's great Public Transit System(Street Car, MAX train and Bus).But more importantly I made the choice because of Calaroga's reputation of providing a supportive community environment including a dedicated and professional staff. Oh yes, and I do enjoy a panoramic view of the city from my apartment and balcony. Duane"

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."

"I toured MorningStar of Hillsboro. The facility is way too big. It looks like you're in a hotel, which is nice, and I've toured the apartments. They're nice and bright, and that's what I'm looking for. The staff member who helped with the tour was a sweetie and knowledgeable. They've got everything going on in there. They play card games, go on tours as far as getting out of Morningstar, and go on shopping trips. It's more of a fit for me. The view was beautiful. The facility was clean and solid; however, the apartments are a little small for me."

"Rock Creek is very nice. They were very plain and simple -- not a lot of bells and whistles -- which is fine. It's very easy for a senior to be able to get around the facility without bumping into corners. It's an independent living only, and it's pretty much independent care. There wouldn't be any issue with wheelchairs getting through the door. They had a very nice menu, and they have home-cooked meals. The facility is very well-maintained, but it's a bit dated. However, they are going through now in updating the rooms, and I think once they get it done it's going to look pretty fancy. "

"I don't have negative feelings about it. The apartment didn't have an oven or cooktop. They had a library, a workout room for physical activities, and a pool for water aerobics."

"My mom went to Brookdale Newberg. It was closer. It was fine in every way. My mom stayed there for 2 months. The residents were busy. She did not take part in much, but they had activities going on. "

"I'm at Parkrose Chateau. They only have independent living here. I like my room the best because it's big and it has storage. They have a lot of activities. I mainly only go on outings like this week we're going to the art museum. They have three meals. The dining room is quite nice. The staff is very cordial."

"We liked the amenities here and the food was fantastic compared to what we had at other places. I really liked Kevin, the staff. He was very down-to-earth and very helpful in some of the stuff and explained the amenities really well. He showed us several apartments and he was really gracious and we really enjoyed him. We liked the size of the apartment, the amenities were more but the cost was less than the other places. They do cleaning twice a week to make sure that the place was clean. They have three meals a day and there are snacks around. They have buses that go out on Wednesdays and do different things, so you are able to go to the bank or your appointments with their provided service. We watched the residents Wii Bowling, they had a computer room, and mom won't be cooking or cleaning or any of that. I tried a meal and it was very good. I also thought that the layout is pretty good because there's less walking for the residents."

"My mother currently lives in Kamlu. It is fine. It is a nice place to live. However, I just want to get my mother in a facility where she can transition to assisted living, and Kamlu does not have that capability; that's why we're looking somewhere else. She likes Kamlu; there is nothing wrong with it other than the food. Food is pretty restricted. A lot of people complained about the food. However, everything else is fine. The rooms are OK. They have little kitchenette and what-have-you. They have different sizes for different places. The facility is older. My mother is OK there. She likes it. What they could improve on the selection of food and cleaning the floors. They have housekeeping provided in their rent, but they don't really clean the floors. "

"I toured Truewood by Merrill, Vancouver. I like their rooms. The staff were fine. They have a swimming pool, which is nice. The upkeep is alright. It's older though. With regards to location, it's near school and shopping."

"I went to Springwood Landing. It was very nice. It's a beautiful community. It was gorgeous actually. They had a lot of amenities, and it looked fairly new. Michelle took us around. She was wonderful, and she was very informative. We had lunch there also, which was very good. We had chicken fried steak. There were lots of food. I only got half done and I said, I can't eat anymore, and the little lady at the other table says, 'Oh, you should have ordered only a half,' and I said, 'We didn't know we could have a half.' The dining area was beautiful. It was very open, it had lots of windows, and it was bright. It is like going into a restaurant. We sat down with a menu, and they had several choices, so it was very nice. They had crafts, they had a billiards room, and they had patios and I like that. The utilities were all paid, and that was great. They have a beauty shop on campus there. They have buses to take you to grocery shopping and doctor's appointments. They had a gym, a craft center, a hobby place, a computer center, and all that. They had raised gardens. It's very nice. The people were very friendly. The staff who gave me the tour was very informative and very friendly. She just let us kind of roam around, too, and we could ask people questions ourselves. It's very nice. The only thing I don't like is that I have to pay for three meals a day, and I'd rather do my own breakfast and lunch and just have dinner. I like cooking and stuff, so that was the only drawback for me. It's pricey but it's brand new, too. The chef even came out and talked to us. He asked how we like the food. He didn't know we were visiting, I don't think, so it's very nice."
