Independent Living Communities in Sherwood, OR

"My experience living here has been great so far. Two years ago I also came out and stayed for a couple of nights just to see the place and the people, but I wasn't ready to move in then. Right now we're on lockdown. The people are very friendly. I participate in their activities and they have wonderful meals; they have a chef here who is fabulous. I just felt right at home here. They normally have card games, bingo, arts and crafts night, they have all kinds of things going on in the mornings and afternoons, and you just choose which ones to participate in. There's plenty of food, they bring it to our rooms, and put it on a chair outside our rooms because we can't come in and we can't go out. But they knock on the door to tell you that they're leaving food. When we found this place we came out and I stayed to see what it was like. I'm happy."

"I toured MorningStar of Hillsboro. It's so nice. I had lunch there, and it was great. The staff was nice. At times, I had two people helping me."

"We choose Rock Creek for my dad. The place was very nice and clean. The room that my dad is in is very nice and a perfect size for him. The staff is very nice as well. They have a nice dining room, laundry facilities, and walkway outside so you can walk your dog. They have a big room with a big TV. They also have an activities room. "

"My relative has moved into Somerset Lodge, and everything's great. It was probably the friendliest, most active community that we visited. The room that she chose faces a green space, so it has a patio and you feel like you're in the country instead of in the city, which was a big deal. The staff members are just super friendly and accommodating. One of the big things that she liked was they make homemade bread for their main meal every day, which is a big deal for her. There is a group that plays Pinnacle."

"It had a positive atmosphere. They were caring and we were happy to consider moving our mom there. The staff seemed responsive and interested. The room was nice, clean, had a beautiful view, was roomy, and bright. The layout was really good. Everything was close for my mom who doesn't get around very well, including the elevators and the dining room. It seemed manageable for her. They have trips, movies, and different activities for the residents. They were playing bingo when we were there."

"The quality and care here at the Meadows are outstanding. Everything from the maintenance staff, dining room staff, office s taff, and managers are all here to serve all the residents from independent to assisted living. We have many activities to choose from and if needed free medical and shopping transportation. No complaints at all. "

"The one I love is Glenmoore Gracious Retirement Living. It was so beautiful, light, and airy. I think my friend is going to move in there. We saw an apartment and it was beautiful. It has beautiful balconies. The lady who helped us was a five-plus. The lady was very gracious. She brought out all kinds of brochures. She answered all my friend's questions, showed us an apartment, toured us around everything, and introduced us to the bus driver. We talked to her for a while. It was just the most wonderful tour, so if I weren't going to consider the other place, I would consider this one. We had lunch there, and it was just delicious. I thought it was very nice that they not only offered the main course, but they had an alternative main course if you didn't care for that one. They had a vegetarian offering, too, so they catered to all types of palates. They don't have a pool. They have balconies though. It is very nice. "

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."

"I toured Elms Retirement Living Center. There were many things that I like about it. I'm a stranger to that area, I don't know a soul there, but everybody said hello or good morning. They were all friendly, and the people that were working there, were extremely friendly. There's a library, there's an exercise room, and there're many, many things to look at. The apartments were very nice. It had a real refrigerator, not as giant as some of the homes do, but a large refrigerator. They had a small stove, a sink, and a walk-in tub. The carpets were all nice and clean. Everything was clean. It looked like it had just been painted, and it was very nice. They have a lot of things to do. They passed out a menu for us to see what the average month is like, and it didn't look too bad for me. I just really liked it. The staff who toured me around explained and answered all our questions. I took one of my sons, his wife, and their daughter with me, and that meant we had six extra eyes looking and three more people asking questions, and she answered everything that we asked. It is an older facility, but it was clean, and I didn't see anything wrong with it. If you like a brand new facility, then that won't be for you, but I thought it was great."

"It had a very homey type of living situation. We stayed for lunch, and the food was extremely very good. The size of the studio was quite small, but the one-bedroom size would be very good for me. They had a place next door where the residents could transfer to assisted living."

"Parkrose Chateau was very beautiful. It was lovely. The rooms were very clean, roomy and pleasant. The windows were nice. They had a big celebration and they had an Elvis impersonation. Everybody was dressed up in nice casual wear. They had music; it was very good. They had a very nice library, a game room, and a nice sitting room. The staff was above excellent. They were just superb. The circular driveway was very regal, very nice, and very pleasant. The place was clean, nice, and very secured with nice entrance and nice reception when you first walk in."

"My parents are residents of Mt Angel Towers and they have an apartment there. My dad was moved down to assisted living, so the obvious convenience is that they're both staying in the same place and have access to each other. It's an older community, so it's not as contemporary as the ones I've visited. We're still kind of on a trial basis. But overall, the care and the attention that this community provides for their active living residents is the same for the assisted living residents as well. He gets the care that he needs, and we have not had any major issues so far."

"It was a very nice place, and I think he would have been very happy there. He loves the food. The staff was all very nice, courteous, and caring. The rooms and surroundings were very clean and very open for ambulatory purposes. Their units had just walk-in showers, well-equipped for an older person who has some difficulties. I would recommend this community as it’s a very nice place."

"I visited Kamlu Retirement, and I have a friend there. It's an older facility, very comfortable, and their dining facility is very nice, spacious, and attractive. It's nearby and close to things. The dining staff is helpful, thoughtful, and kind. My friend has a 1-bedroom unit, it's a nice size, they all have windows that look out on nice green spaces, the people are friendly, and they seem to be open to doing things together. My friend really liked living there."
