"I moved into here on 2nd of January. The staff is very caring, attentive, and has a special feeling for seniors. They go out of their way to do extra things. For example, I had a clogged toilet, so they sent somebody up to unclog the toilet, which is probably not in their job description. I love the views here and it's right downtown, so we've got magnificent views of the city, the mountains, and the river. I couldn't be happier. The food is adequate, but not great. I prefer to prepare my own food. I have a 2-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. They post the activities every day, but I have not attended any yet."

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."

"I love Brookdale. The food, care, and cleaning are good, and they're very attentive. They communicate well with me and the caregiver who is not on-site. They have a lot of other resources that they help me with, and the people are sweet and kind. My dad's happy there, and it's very reasonable. "

"This is where my mother-in-law has been in for a few years. It’s very clean and well-decorated, and the staff is very caring toward her. It seems she just has to wait a long time to go to the bathroom. Other than that, it’s been great."

"We ended up putting my mother-in-law at Somerset Lodge Gracious Retirement Living. It is very pretty. The land that it is on is very pretty, and you can see Mount Hood from there. The facility itself is very clean. It is brand new and the rooms are good size. I really like the fact that there are two sets of managers - two sets of husband and wife. They live in the building, so there is always somebody there. They’re really nice. The dining room is set up beautiful. They have fresh baked bread and cookies everyday. They have cookies and coffee out everyday. That’s really nice. The atmosphere is very nice. They have activities too. The only suggestion would be, when someone new comes in, it would be nice if they have a service where the some of the residents or maybe one of the managers would go up and invite them down at dinner or lunch and sit with them. It has been a little hard of an adjustment for my mother-in-law; she doesn’t feel comfortable just walking upto a table and sitting down for a meal. "

"It is beautiful. It's much newer. It's very nice. The manager was very polite and very nice. He showed us everything. It was clean. They have a nice library that everybody can go to. They have a big size room. There were games and stuff; it's kind of like a game room. They got a courtyard, too. It's fairly new and it's gorgeous."

"I like Brookdale Newberg because I have an independent cottage that I love. They have the usual bingo, bus trips, and day trips to the casino, to the doctor, Fred Meyer, and Walmart. They have card games, exercises, and swimming. They serve three meals a day and snacks are included in our rent. In my cottage, I have a washer and dryer, and we have housekeeping once a week. The only thing I pay in-house is my phone and Wi-Fi. Garbage pick-up and lawn care are included in my rent. I don't need a bunch of help, but the staff is very friendly and nice. I am very comfortable here, and my cottage is very homey. "

"We went to Glenmoore Gracious Retirement Living. They have two-bedroom, two-bathroom units, but none are available at this time. They had a very nice dining room. The building and its surroundings were very nice. We had lunch there, which was pretty good. The staff seemed pretty good, too."

"Elms Retirement was very friendly looking and clean, and the atmosphere was nice. They have social events, crafts, music entertainment, and three meals a day. The staff was very friendly, informative, and outgoing. They could have your hair done, exercise program, games, library, and a nice dining room area. "

"I went to Kamlu Retirement Inn-Vancouver. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and answered the questions that I had. We did take a tour of the building and saw some of the people. The facility layout and so forth was fine. There's no big problem getting around or moving from one place to the other. They're basically apartments within a big building. They seem to have a nice eating area, common area for people to get together, share things, and communicate with one another. They seem to have plenty of activities for the people to choose from. It seemed like happy crowd that was there, at least the people that I got to see. There's walking paths mostly around the building, and it looked like places to sit down (if a person were to get too tired of walking). It's a plus because some people are using walkers and things like that. It's nice to get outside and have some place to sit down. The outside facilities seemed well kept. The parking area seemed to be a little bit small. I only parked only in a particular spot. I didn't really drive around the building itself to see if there were other parking spots. It was a small area for such a large number of people."

"Parkrose Chateau was absolutely beautiful, and everyone would probably go out of their way to make you feel very comfortable. I just went and looked at the rooms there, and they were very spacious. "

"Truewood by Merrill, Vancouver was very clean, very nice, and up-to-date. It was a bit large for my mom who has trouble walking, but it was certainly the nicest of the places we visited. The people were all nice, but it was just too large. The staff was all very helpful, but I didn't get to talk to the staff that much."

"Van Mall Retirement was very nice inside and very clean. We just popped in to ask about it, and they said, "We can give you a tour right now," and so she did. My sister loves it. The gal was very helpful. We asked a bunch of questions, and she gave us things to look up to help, maybe with financial help, and just different things that they mentioned. We got a full tour of the second level. The second level was all activities and food, and they've invited us over to buy us a meal. We didn't go at that time, but she said we can come at another time, if we wanted to come visit and check out the meals. They gave us information about downsizing and stuff. It was a little more spendy than we'd like, but my sister really liked the place. The food looked very good. The gal showed us the menu, and as guests, we can come in for $6 a meal. It looks like a high-quality gourmet meal. It was very festive as well. There were a few things on the floor, but other than that, it was pretty well-maintained."
