"Murray Highland Memory Care is a small and very intimate community. The staff are friendly. My father is in a shared room and although it's small for the two people, it's just adequate. It has a nice window looking out into the courtyard and a very good-sized bathroom. They're very good at resident engagement and they do very well with activities. For what we're getting and for what we're paying, it's a great value for our money. The only thing is they're struggling to get staff, just like every other community."

"The place that we found for him is Arbor Terrace, and the people there were just wonderful. The executive director in particular spent a lot of time with me, explained a lot of their processes, how they worked with the clients that lived there, and everything she said just sounded very calm, planned, and organized. It sounded like they very much understood his situation, and dad has been very happy there. Dad is in a memory-care facility, the rooms are single rooms -- he doesn’t have to share with anybody -- but somebody else told me that the wave of the future is that they have to share rooms, and I think that’s a really bad idea. I think having a single room in particular was one of the biggest selling points with this place because many of these people need to be in a room by themselves. It was extremely clean, very caring staff all the time. It wasn’t crowded, it wasn’t dirty, smelled clean, the people were clean, and the dining experience was very nice. They had it all setup where everybody ate family-style, they don’t serve themselves, and the food is good. It didn’t smell, look, or feel like a nursing home. "

"PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING BROOKDALE BEAVERTON: I recognize that when a family is facing the reality of needing residential Alzheimer & Dementia care, there is a lot of emotion and concern surrounding this decision. We didn’t “want” this, and it is overwhelming when you realize it is time to make this choice. We moved my aunt from another Brookdale community where she had lived in assisted living for 7 years. I wont go into specifics on that facility, but I will tell you that we were very unhappy with the lack of care for her there and were hesitant, if not almost totally resistant to continuing to have her in the Brookdale network. However, Brookdale Beaverton has turned out to be an exceptional facility for us. The routine that has been established for residents keeps the day moving, the facility is clean, the communication is clear, the dedicated staff is wonderful. And its furnished beautifully. We randomly drop by to visit, and have seen that it is consistent in its care. I appreciate the fact that the staff tries different ways to engage my aunt, who is non-verbal, and they dance and sing with her. They animate expression to her, and help her get through her day. She has a rare form of dementia, and I can say that she can often be a difficult person to care for. I have witnessed the staff members placed in very hard positions where she becomes defiant, even combative at times, and they handle these instances carefully and professionally. We are so grateful to the staff at Brookdale Beaverton for all of the efforts that they make on behalf of their residents and how they assess individual care. There are some basics that families need to accept when understanding these kind of environments. Things will go missing, because people “shop” around. Things disappear, things return. Thats how it goes. Not all the residents will like each other, and they are all in different states of being, while in the same location. It makes it interesting to witness, and I think the staff is absolutely amazing at being able to manage all of these different personalities and realities. Although we wish in our hearts that we could make my aunts condition improve, she is in a decline from which she will not recover. We are very comforted by the care she is receiving, and know that she feels safe and at home there. Thank you to all the staff, from the people cooking and cleaning, the care taking staff, activity directors, med desk, nurses, visiting doctors, and administrators. You have really made us feel like we are in the right place with you all. We don’t worry constantly. You let us know how she is doing, and offer suggestions for support. You are the voice for her that she does not have, and we could not be more grateful for the care you are providing for her. THANK YOU."

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."

"My grandmother's husband lived at Senior Haven for the last year of his life. Lena and the staff were wonderful--especially given the fact that my grandmother's husband was not the easiest or nicest person to deal with. They were patient and compassionate and he had all of his needs beautifully met. Thank you, Senior Haven. I highly recommend this place! "

"Staff was very caring. It was nice to see even the janitorial staff and kitchen staff interact with my mom. Food was made from scratch and my mom never had a complaint about it. I know that her life was enriched with the activities and ability to interact with other residents. I know her life was extended by the staff's ability to notice when something was off. There seems to be a lot of staff continuity here and not a lot of turnover which is key to developing the personal relationships that enhanced care. This speaks to the management, who even visited my mom in the hospital."

"I visited the assisted living. It was a good tour. They have very nice staff, very clean area, and the place was bright and open. It looked like a nice place, I wish they had an opening. They had all sorts of planned activities. There's a girl there doing some crafts, they have a big community room, they have a little bit of everything I think. The person who gave the tour was great, but she didn't show us the memory care. The facilities were very nice, clean, bright and welcoming. The dining room was basically just an open room, and they had a serving bar. It was like a kitchen with an island, though much bigger, and they were serving from there."

"I toured the home for my loved one and was extremely pleased by the profesional staff that shows such care and compassion to the residents. The facility and rooms wear clean and organized, free of odors and very home like. The ambiance of the home was very welcoming. "

"I have chosen them for my husband because it felt more family-oriented and warmer. The staff that we talked to and the others that were there were very caring. They all seemed to really care about the clients. They had so many activities ongoing, and it looked like they really encouraged the residents to participate. They had scheduled outings, and they let the patients pick what their outings were going to be. It just seemed very homey. I have not tried the food, but I saw the menus. It was all homecooked. The other four that I visited had alert systems, but they were the pull-the-chain type. It was in a couple of rooms. However, this place has a monitoring, where it's with them all the time. I thought that was really a good feature. They had good walk-in showers. They had kitchenette type places, so it was very nice."

"For the month that mom has been here, the staff has been very helpful. They’re very good to her, to me, and to my family. Her room is very nice and a very good size. She has her own bathroom, closet, and bed and I think she’s very comfortable. They try to keep them very busy. They have had visiting bunnies, singers, and musicians come in. They have a craft three or four times a week, movie nights, and gardening that’s getting started. They have exercise in the mornings, and when the weather is nice, they take them out for walks inside the gated community. They have outings on the bus. Their menu seems to be well rounded. Mom has already gained weight. They have snacks for them throughout the day and evening. I’ve been there when she’s finished eating breakfast or lunch where she has cleaned her plate."

"We picked Summerplace for my mother-in-law. She seems to be very happy there. We saw two rooms and told them which one we preferred and that's the one that they put her in. They have a craft room if people who want to do crafts, they have singing on Sundays, and somebody comes in to speak to them. The staff seemed to be very good. The dining area and the food are both very good. Each room has their own door outside with a little cement area. When you walk in the halls, there's no smell of urine or anything like we ran into with some of the other facilities. They have an activities room and another room upstairs where they do the singing. They also have two or three areas where people gather."

"A Place To Call Home IV Andresen Rd is an adult foster home. My wife has only been here a couple of weeks. We are waiting to get set up for physical therapy, so right now, they're just taking care of her meals, showers, and whatever else she needs. I come almost every day to see her. The owner of this place has four of these. I went and visited three of the four and these are very nice homes, much better than I've seen anywhere else. The staff is very friendly. The girl that's here almost all the time, Violet, does a good job of taking care of my wife. Cleanliness is excellent. They do several things. They have entertainers that come in and they've got somebody for yoga that comes in and musicians, much better than you would see anywhere else probably."
