"Edgewood Point Assisted Living was bright and clean. The person who gave us the tour was great. She could answer all of our questions and didn't ever seem hurried. They treat their residents like family, which is important when you're putting a family member in a care facility. She was very knowledgeable and personable. They had three chefs there for meals and that's kind of amazing. They had a hair salon where you could make appointments. They didn't have as good of a recreation room with exercise equipment, which would have been important. The only reason we were a little leery about that one was because it's right across the street from a golf course and my husband was a golfer and I wouldn't want him wandering out and deciding he'd like to go do golf. So, we kind of had to rule that one out just because of location, but all the other stuff was great. They had single apartments that had separate bedrooms, but then they had just like studios, too. The facility, the meal preparation, all that kind of stuff, were excellent. It was very nice. It didn't have as homey a feeling as the other facility we went to, but that doesn't make it a bad thing. Some people prefer it to not look homey."

"Today is my father's first day in Murray Highland Memory Care. It's a small community, and they have good one-on-one care with the residents. They're very responsive to requests through email or phone calls. So far, it's been a good experience. He has a private room. They have an activity director, and they have a variety of things that they do including music, games, puzzles, exercises, and that sort of thing. They provide three meals a day and snacks any time the residents wanted them. It's his first day, so I'm still figuring out everything that they have today. There's no problem moving him in. We just brought him in, and they were very helpful."

"I toured Silver Creek Senior Living. It was very, very nice, but they had very limited Medicaid apartment availability. The tour was really good. The community looked like it had a great atmosphere, and there were lots of activities and things to keep people busy. The staff who gave the tour was amazing. Super nice. She was ready for me and called me by name as soon as I walked in. She gave me literature, too. The apartments were very beautiful, friendly, and comfortable. Everything was accessible. The dining area looked really good, too. There were a lot of people eating at that time, and they all seemed to be very jovial. I noticed that they had a movie room, an activity room, a game room, and an area where people were doing jigsaw puzzles and card games and stuff like that. "

"I thought that Clare Bridge was a lovely facility. We had lunch there, and I was able to taste some of the food. The gal who showed us around was very personable, and from what I could tell, all the residents loved her. I didn't actually see a room there, but the rest of the facility was really nice. It was kind of unique because it was like a little town hall. When you first walked in, they had an area where people had benches and stuff. All of the offices looked like shops. So it looked like a little village, and it was kind of cool. I didn't see anything that wasn't in really in good shape. "

"I visited Pheasant Pointe Assisted Living & Memory Care. I was lead custodian and janitor at work for a long time, and this place was immaculate. The people were wonderful. They helped and answered all the questions I'd ever wanted. They talked to my sister over the phone in a kind of a conference-type thing. It was amazing. I was pleased by the help I got from the people. When I walked into the place, it was beautiful and wide open. All the memory care people and the other people are all working together, talking and visiting. It was just a great atmosphere. The room that I have seen is just now being remodeled. It will have two people in it, and it was nice. They had a pop machine and coffee machines. They had drinks everywhere in the dining room area that people could help themselves to. They had nice areas for the people to get together and group together, visit, and talk. It was just a comfortable atmosphere. I don't know if anybody will beat this place as far as pricing, as far as cleanliness, and everything else. But this will probably be the place we put my mother."

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."

"Sapphire at Firwood Gardens looked OK. When I was referred there they were not actually giving tours because they're in the process of converting a section of the complex and they were not going to have any vacancies for quite some time, but they took time to give me at least a brief tour. I thought that was somewhat exceptional. I saw a room that was empty and it looked OK."

"We really felt welcomed when we first went, and they have been very, very helpful, helping us get everything done for my mother-in-law to be able to move in there. It is a smaller place; it may not be as big as some of the newer ones, but it is a very homey and comfortable feeling and I think it would be a good fit for her. The last time that we were over there, some of the residents were actually baking with someone helping them, and at another time, they were listening to a radio program. They have tables around where they can work on puzzles and they have sitting areas where they can sit together, and they do. They did have a lot of good things going, and every week they take a country drive if any of the residents would want to go. They also plan special events every once in a while -- like go out to lunch or stuff like that -- that the residents are able to sign up for. Their memory care part is kind of small and it is understandable because they don't have many people there, but it would be nicer if the outdoor area had some greenery to it, like maybe some grass and a little more outside scenery."
