I love the Holiday Rock Creek location. The building itself is well-maintained. It is very pleasant inside. The rooms are configured really great for seniors. I looked at three different styles of rooms and they were all very pleasant and very easy to get around in. A couple of the bathrooms were iffy about wheelchairs, but they probably could work. I just looked in at the dining area. I wasn't there during a mealtime. The snack area didn't have much in it, but it's a very pretty place. The people living there seemed to be happy. In fact, they wanted to interact with me. The staff member during the tour was very informative.

My aunt has moved into Holiday Rock Creek. I love the community spaces. It's very accommodating for her needs with the fresh entrees that they provide, three meals a day. It's very cozy inside the space. The only thing I don't like is the long hallways. It could be challenging for her to walk from one space to another at one time, but they have wall railings to accommodate assistance in guiding them throughout the hallways. The staff has been wonderful. We've eaten there three times. We had marinated roasted pork with cheesy polenta and glazed carrots with homemade rolls. We had orange pound cake. It was delicious. Another time we were there, we had fish and chips. Another lunch we were there, we had a turkey bacon club sandwich with a side salad, and it was great. It was very clean. There were updates throughout the facility, so I like that. The amenities have been upgraded. They have one elevator currently. It'd be nice to have an additional elevator. My aunt already went to bingo. She went shopping. They took a field trip to go shopping at the local Fred Meyer, which has home goods and groceries. They had a movie night. They had a game night. She's been engaged. She's happy. It's comfortable, peaceful, and friendly.

Holiday Rock Creek is my second favorite. Really great staff, and a really nice place. Really great staff and a really nice, nice place. The reason they're my second was they're one of the places that has a general use washing and dryer, and there's no kitchen, but their rooms are really nice and the facilities were really nice. It's open; I think they just went through a remodel. And so the kitchen area, it looked like a nice restaurant. All the facilities, the arts area, the exercise rooms, the pool tables, and the general meeting area all really clean and it looks like they really cared. I worked with Megan, and she was super cute. When I walked in she already had a little sign on the little kiosk that said, "Welcome, Brian, to your tour." Just those little extra touches, I thought were fun, right? She personalized my appointment meeting, so an appointment with her was super easy, very communicative. She was great.

I toured Holiday Rock Creek. The community is nice. It's a little on the city side, but other than that, I like it a lot. I like the space. They had a lot of upgrades, so it was nice. The location is good. The apartments are good sizes and layouts. They have a lot of good windows. What I liked best about them was that almost all of the rooms had either a balcony or a little patio space. Also, most of the people were doing activities when we visited. The staff were very friendly. The facility was very nice. We couldn't see some of the common areas because they were dealing with some water damage due to the construction. The gym could use a little bit more stuff in my opinion. It didn't have very much equipment. It just had two little riding bikes and some chairs to do sit-down exercises. I know that's what most people that age do, but it seems like they could have had a little bit more for strength training and stuff.

My Mother lived at the Rock Creek Holiday Independent retirement home for aprox 5 years. She loved it there up until Atria took over ownership. Everything changed for the worse. The quality of customer service went down so significantly that she and over 20 other residents moved and went elsewhere. Don't be fooled by the shiny remodel. Yes it looks really nice! We found that there are other places out there that may not be freshly remodeled, but the quality of life is so much better. It was not an easy move at age 89 but my Mother is so much happier leaving Rock Creek. The Atria Senior management was also terrible to work with. Based on our experience we would never use an Atria facility again.

I chose to live here in Holiday Rock Creek because it's close to my doctor and my grandson. So, it is a convenient area. It was very expensive, but my room is very nice. The staff, at this point, seems to bend over backward to help everybody. So, I like them. The dining area is very nice. They have a lot of activities. I just haven't participated in any of them yet.

Holiday Rock Creek was absolutely wonderful. The staff I met was very professional and very, very nice. It would be a nice spot to live. It's a nice walk- through, very clean, if you drive by it, it looks like a hotel. It did not look like a care center. It's very nice. Very impressed. Everybody that walked by said hello. Very, very personable. The room was very clean and very kept up nice. I'd feel comfortable there. They had a lot of common areas.

Holiday Rock Creek was being remodeled, so there were different parts that they showed us that weren't quite finished. The rooms looked not quite as homey as I was hoping they would be, but there were a lot of nice places that we could enjoy with the people and playing games. When we walked into the foyer, it was very large. So, it just seemed more like a hotel and we had a hard time walking already. The person that took us around was very friendly and knowledgeable. They showed us the room with equipment where you can do exercises and a library room with a large TV. Their dining room was very nice. We thought that was very pretty.

I went to Rock Creek. The tour was thorough and good. We understood everything. The staff was very cordial. We didn't see any of the people who lived there. It was like going through an unoccupied place, but the tour was fine. We went through a room, and it was fine. They had a parking lot. From what we could see, everything was fine. It's only independent living. They have plenty of activities, but there weren't any right then because of the lockdown. I just noticed it up on the board. They had a Cinco De Mayo special party and excursions to different places. It's close to a healthcare facility. Where it is, is a very advantageous situation. They had a library and several of the people there are good artists. They have a showing of their artwork on one of the floors. Because of the lockdown situation, they weren't serving food.

We took a tour of Rock Creek, and we were we were impressed with it. We thought it was a good place, it had some nice things about it, but there are a few things that we thought were questionable. The staff is excellent; they were very good, very friendly, very courteous, and very pleasant to spend time with. We liked the place, it was pleasant, and it was laid out nicely. The apartment seemed clean and well maintained. The location was OK. It is in a busy area just off a busy street, so having a little less traffic would be my preference.

Be wary of the management of this facility. Our parents who both have Alzheimer’s/Dementia signed an agreement and paid a nearly $5000 deposit for an independent living unit. THIS WAS AFTER we had called the manager of the facility to let him know that us daughter’s were concerned they were not mentally and physically able to reside in an independent living facility. The manager said he would let us know if our parents contacted him. We asked him to call us before accepting an agreement or a deposit since we did not think they were mentally able to make this decision. They took our parent’s money. Our parents never moved in because they forget that they signed and paid this money. We only found out once we became conservators. They have since not returned our calls and messages! They have taken advantage of our parents and I consider this theft of their money.

Provider Response

Hello, we are disappointed to hear that this was your parent's experience with our community leaders. We are an independent senior living community, however, we do provide on-site external resources for memory care and assisted living for those residents who in need of them. We apologize about this situation and would like to continue this conversation further with you. Please contact the local community leader directly as soon as possible. Thank you!

I went to Rock Creek Independent Living. I found them to be friendly, open, and it seemed like a nice place. The staff who assisted me was friendly and knowledgeable, he took me to lunch, and showed me a couple of places that I was interested in. Somebody was playing a piano, they had some kind of entertainment, and it was just wrapping up when I got there. It's in a good location in terms of access to stores, and I think it's a good facility.

We moved my grandmother into Hillsboro Senior Living at Rock Creek two weeks ago; she loves it. The food is wonderful with lots of options. The residents are delightful, very friendly, and amazing. They're so kind and so sweet; my grandmother is happy. Food is very good. My grandmother is very picky, but they make sure to accommodate what she is asking for. She wasn't feeling well one day, so they brought the food to her, which was very nice.

I thought Rock Creek is a great place, and if I decide to move, that's the place I would move to. It felt like home when I walked in, the apartments were very nice, it was a little expensive, but the food was good. They have all kinds of things to do. They have Bingo, and they take the residents outside on a shuttle bus to different places.

Rock Creek is smaller, with not enough rooms available, but highly clean and accessible. The staff answered my questions, and seemed to respond well. They have a pool table, exercise area, a theater area for watching movies, and an area for doing puzzles. The dining room provided easy access, and the food was good.

Rock Creek was very nice, and the fellow who took us around did an extremely nice job. We had a very nice lunch, but they didn’t have a kitchen, just a kitchenette with no stove. We liked the 2-bedroom we saw which was nice since you didn't have to always go out on the hallway, and it was on the first floor and you could right out front to where the cars where and go walking around. It was close to grocery stores and shops.

We choose Rock Creek for my dad. The place was very nice and clean. The room that my dad is in is very nice and a perfect size for him. The staff is very nice as well. They have a nice dining room, laundry facilities, and walkway outside so you can walk your dog. They have a big room with a big TV. They also have an activities room.

My mom is in Rock Creek. It's a great place, and it's a really nice facility. They're very caring people. When you first walk in, it’s very light and airy inside. It doesn't feel like the walls are coming in around you, so it doesn't feel institutional. They have a 3-story opening in the front, so when you come in to their living area, it goes 3 stories up with these big skylights, and it's just awesome because all the light comes in from outside.

We lived at Rock Creek and we didn?t like having to have the 3 meals a day. It has changed considerably since we first moved there. The food has declined, the corporate management has made many changes, and the local managers are good, but are pressured beyond belief. The apartments are nice and have a variety of different sizes and shapes. The maintenance is not good; they have only one maintenance person, and he is overworked. Parking for residents is very limited. They have a walking area around the building, but there's not much there. Its main advantage is its location to grocery shopping and to one of the nicer shopping areas. It's quite expensive. We had a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment, and we're paying a thousand dollars more a month than what we're paying now where we live.

I am living in Rock Creek. I am really fond of the management here. They take care of questions. They get things easily done. Most of the people here are pretty friendly too. I play carpet bowling. There are available outdoor activities. They have fishing trip in summer. Every Wednesday, the go someplace whether it is just to see a museum. They went to the beach once. Once every year, they invite one of the other facilities that is run by Holiday to participate in an outdoor game of bean bag baseball or just have a picnic between two places. They serve three meals a day. They have a little cabinet right by the coffee bar, and it has various sweet treats.

Rock Creek is very nice. They were very plain and simple -- not a lot of bells and whistles -- which is fine. It's very easy for a senior to be able to get around the facility without bumping into corners. It's an independent living only, and it's pretty much independent care. There wouldn't be any issue with wheelchairs getting through the door. They had a very nice menu, and they have home-cooked meals. The facility is very well-maintained, but it's a bit dated. However, they are going through now in updating the rooms, and I think once they get it done it's going to look pretty fancy.

Rock Creek was one of the best places that I really wanted to get into, but after our visit, I found out that the expenses would be too much for me. The place was terrific as far as convenience because it's near Kaiser Hospital and shopping places. I could walk to a lot of places. Basically, the food was good, and the rooms were OK as far as size. I tried the food, and it was good. The dining room was nice, too.

My mother-in-law is in Rock Creek. The staff is very helpful, very knowledgeable, and very caring. They really care about every single resident there and give them a lot of attention. Everything is great and top notch. All of the rooms are very nice. The dining room has white linens, and the food is pretty good. They have a new chef, so it's really gourmet, more than I think is necessary for the seniors. She said sometimes it's a little over the top, but otherwise, the breakfast and lunch are pretty good. Some of the menu selections are just a little too fancy, but everything else is great.

Rock Creek was very formal, and I wasn’t impressed. The dinner was very formal, not something that a country boy would like whatsoever. The staff that showed us around was very condescending, and she didn’t have a good demeanor at all. They had places to play games, and during dinner, they hired groups to come in and sing. I wasn’t impressed with that because then you couldn’t even talk. They had a place to watch TV, and no one was there. The people were not really welcoming at all.

The people were friendly and not only that, some of the people who were running the place lived there. They were residents, which impressed me. The staff just seemed very happy. They laughed and joked, and it just created a pleasant place. The food was good, but not incredible. It just seemed like a fun place to be. I really almost went there.

He's very happy at Rock Creek. He likes the people in charge; he thinks they're very good. The only bad thing is that he has white carpet, which he can't keep clean. He's supposed to be on a no-salt diet, and that would not be something they could do, which is to provide a special diet for people.

The people who live at Rock Creek are very friendly. They approached me knowing I was a visitor and saying they hope I move in with them and they?re a fun group. The staff is very heart-warming and very people-oriented. They sent me a bouquet when I was going to have surgery and they invited me to activities. I?m invited to one next week and they know I love singing and music and so they invite me to all the music stuff and then stay for dinner or lunch whichever the time is. The rooms are lovely. They?re very bright and open and as far as square footage, theirs is a little higher and it is a newer facility. It?s one of my top two contenders. They could be a 5 just by how the system works, the food is great, the chefs are great. Everybody including the residents were very, very pleasant.

Rock Creek is one of communities that would allow large dogs. I have a 50-lb. English Cream Golden Retriever. That was a major factor finding a place who would keep my dog. It's closer to the beach. They had an apartment for me on the first level where I have a backdoor that opens out on a grassy area, which is very convenient for my dog. I was really pleased with the staff. They were just wonderful folks. The meals are very good. All the meals are planned by a dietician and prepared from scratch, 3 times a day by their chef. I'm diabetic. They keep track of you. If you don't show up for something, they'll come and check on you. The apartment that I'm in was previously 2 studio apartments. They tore down the wall and turned it into 1 apartment with a large bedroom and large living room. I have a pool table. I'm 90% disabled Vietnam veteran. I get all my medication and therapy with VA, and there's a VA outpatient clinic right across the street. The people here are great. There are 110 residents, and all of them are just so friendly. I'm 73 years old and I'm one of the youngest ones here.

The workout room at Rock Creek was very minimal. It was situated near a community center and that's where they go for exercise or a pool. I've been doing that for 15 years trying to make community centers work for me and they don't always. They had a little patio but it's a congested area. It's like a hub, there's a park across the street but it would be hard to walk there. The best part was that it was very near my niece and her family like 15 minutes away or 10 minutes away. The staff was very friendly, very informative. They kept asking questions and they're very up on things but I wasn't really impressed.
