"We chose Summerfield Estates for my mother because of the atmosphere. We were able to do a tour. The residents don't have to be in their room the whole time. Instead, they're allowed to have meals together and socialize together, and that's an important part for our mother. We were able to afford a one-bedroom apartment, and the pricing fit our budget. Their dining room is still fully functional and all their activities are still happening. We were able to see the calendar of the events, and we saw the dining room, which is right as you walk in the building. We received a full tour of the facility. She likes the food. The staff is very friendly. Right now, they're not allowing visitors in. It's a beautiful facility. She likes the activities she has tried, and she keeps winning in bingo."

"I have Parkinson’s disease and this place is perfect for me. Luckily, I still live in the Independent side of the facility but the staff keep a close eye out for me. Also, the residents here are so friendly and they too help me along during the day. The food in the dining room has been wonderful over the last year. Our chef is a very caring man who want to do the best for everyone. That’s hard to do with so many different tastes, but he tries. The management view this facility as “our home” and do their best to make us comfortable and safe. My favorite activity is beach ball toss. It keeps me moving and is lots of fun."

"I chose herefor myself. It was a lovely tour. I got to see everything I needed to see. I like the people that represented it, and the people that I dealt with. I like the tour that I took and the time that the person spent with me. I like the grounds. I saw a little apartment and that's just exactly what I needed. The meals are all provided. I couldn't find any fault with it and I'm kind of particular. I saw them serving the food and it looked lovely, but I didn't eat there. The staff was excellent. It's very clean and very beautiful. They had all kinds of seating areas, a library, a church, and little places where you can gather and talk and have a little get-together. They had beautiful grounds. They allow pets. My dog is big and he was in there also and they loved him and he loved them, so that's a huge plus for an elderly person."

"We toured Brookdale Newberg. It's very good. They have a very friendly staff. Everything is very clean. The outdoors, the indoors and the dining room, everything is nice. The staff were very helpful. We didn't eat there, but the dining room was very nice. The waitresses and servers were smiling all the time and looked very friendly. They had bingo and an ice cream parlor. Everybody looked really happy."

"Mom is at MorningStar at Laurelhurst. It is very clean. Most of the caregivers are very caring and loving. They enjoy what they do and care for the residents. There were a few issues at the beginning, but things are better now. No place is perfect. I was given a couple of opportunities to have a meal there, and the food is always very fresh because the memory care patients are always served first. It's nutritious and they have a really good chef. There's a good variety. There are a lot of coloring activities (they have adult coloring books). They also play music and then have movies after dinner. They have other activities that I noticed on the board, like going for a walk and trivia things, but Mom's not interested in any of that stuff. She's very picky. She's always just sitting there, totally bored."

"I was very impressed with the facility. The first thing I noticed was how clean and inviting it was. The rooms were large and well laid out. The staff was well educated and very friendly. The ratio of staff to residents was pretty high and they had medical professionals on staff 24 hours a day. They took us on a tour of the lounge and dining rooms which were also clean and very inviting. The kitchen was nice with all of the up to date equipment. They held daily activities for the residents which included bingo, game and movie time. There was a modern library that was free for the residents to use whenever they wanted. They were also allowed to check out books and movies to use in their rooms. We talked to the activities manager who plans outings such as shopping trips and other fun activities. Another thing I likes about this facility was that they were conveniently located near the center of town. When the time comes, I would definitely trust them with my mother. "

"Mom actually lives in the independent living at the Courtyard at Mt. Tabor. She has been there a couple of years now. She is in a very nice room. They have housecleaning. Other than that, we take care of our laundry and stuff. They do offer a lot more things than what my mom is receiving. There are tons of them activities. Right now, my mom is not capable of going anywhere; she has not been involved in activities."

"I love Brookdale. The food, care, and cleaning are good, and they're very attentive. They communicate well with me and the caregiver who is not on-site. They have a lot of other resources that they help me with, and the people are sweet and kind. My dad's happy there, and it's very reasonable. "

"I visited Kamlu Retirement, and I have a friend there. It's an older facility, very comfortable, and their dining facility is very nice, spacious, and attractive. It's nearby and close to things. The dining staff is helpful, thoughtful, and kind. My friend has a 1-bedroom unit, it's a nice size, they all have windows that look out on nice green spaces, the people are friendly, and they seem to be open to doing things together. My friend really liked living there."

"It is quite large and spread out, so unless you're quite mobile, it would be a hard place to get around in. If you're independent living and very mobile, then I think it would work better. They have a lot going on and are very close to the big shopping center, which is a plus. They have transportation available. Most anything you would want, you could get there."

"My friend is happy at Vancouver Pointe. We visited in-person, and we like it almost immediately. It's beautiful inside. I've had several meals there. Some days the food is very good and some days it's mediocre. The rooms that my friend has is a separate bedroom, eating/living room together, and a bath. It's very attractive. It has a refrigerator, a microwave oven, and a stove. It has all the amenities that he would need. The staff members are wonderful. They're all very polite, and they call my friend by name. They say good morning or whatever to him. They always speak to me. They're great. I was just there yesterday, and I had lunch with my friend. With regard to activities, they had a painting class. They had them on display, and it's beautiful. And I know they do cornhole game, they do movies, and they do Bridge. They have a lot of activities. They have a laundry room, and my friend goes and does that. He can get his haircut there. It's almost like living at home without having to drive to those things."

"Cherrywood Village Retirement Community met all of my mom's needs. She loved it as soon as she walked in. It has plenty of things to do, lots of places to be, and the people are very open, welcoming, and friendly. It is a lovely place, but not pretentious. They have a pool, a gym, an art studio, a theater, a chapel, a coffee shop, a hair salon, massage therapists, and they have outings. This place has been really wonderful."
