The Best Independent Living Communities in Marion County, OR

"My mother is in the assisted living community of Heron Pointe Senior Living in Monmouth. We chose it for her because it was near her residence, and she has some friends there from the church. They gave her a beeper that goes around her neck. She presses it, and somebody shows up to help her, like with the bathroom and her showers. They bring her her meals and try to encourage her to eat out in the dining area with other people. They're trying to encourage her to interact with other people within the community. It's a big move for her. She was on her own for eight years after my father died, so she's not used to interacting with other people so much, and they're trying to encourage that. They have services where she can get her nails trimmed and her hair done. They regulate her medications and bring her her pills at the appropriate times throughout the day. They'll take her outside if she wants to go outside. They have group activities such as potting plants, painting, doing puzzles, and others. She hasn't taken any part in any group activities, but they're trying to encourage her to do that. For the food, my mother says the cooks are young, and they're cooking their type of food. She grew up with a lot of meat, potatoes, gravy, farm food, and their food is a lot of pasta and other things that she's not quite used to. Other than that, overall, I think they're doing a very nice job."

"It was a very nice place, and I think he would have been very happy there. He loves the food. The staff was all very nice, courteous, and caring. The rooms and surroundings were very clean and very open for ambulatory purposes. Their units had just walk-in showers, well-equipped for an older person who has some difficulties. I would recommend this community as it’s a very nice place."

"It had a very homey type of living situation. We stayed for lunch, and the food was extremely very good. The size of the studio was quite small, but the one-bedroom size would be very good for me. They had a place next door where the residents could transfer to assisted living."

"We found Bonaventure of Albany for mom, and she has already moved in last month. It's very nice and very clean. Everyone is really nice, and my mom is very comfortable. She said the food is good. They have a salon, a movie theater, a pool table, and a big room with lots of games. They have gathering places, such as kitchen areas, game places set up all around, and puzzles; however there is no gathering with COVID. They have church on Sunday. They have bingo. They just had a mother-daughter tea for Mother's day."

"My dad and I went ahead and interviewed with Brookdale Heritage Plaza, and they seemed to be very receptive to what we planned for right now. It has a bunch of veterans who are just like my dad, and that's what I love about it. And then there's food three times a day. It seems like a very tight-knit community. My dad hasn't stayed there quite yet, but they were very nice and kind. When we passed by other people on the floor, they had nothing but rave reviews. We talked to the veterans, and they had nothing but great things to say about the place, too. It looks like they have a lot of card games going on that my dad would absolutely love and would probably get himself involved in. The building was fantastic. It was beautiful. They had a little birdie there. It smelt very nice. It was very nice and clean. Their rooms are beautiful. They're spacious and nice, too."

"We liked Brookdale Grand Prairie (OR) best. It felt the most personal. It included an emergency pull cord for independent living, and I don't think the others have that option for independent living. They have a refrigerator. They have an oven and dishwasher. I think some of the apartments have a hookup for a washer and dryer. I don't think all of them do, but some of them do. The one-bedroom apartments, I felt like they were larger than most of the one-bedrooms anywhere else because it was like one bedroom plus, kind of an extra area, like half a bedroom. So it was bigger, and I think the price was less. The staff was very personal, he was very interested in my mom, and what she needs so that he could best match her with the right facility. I didn't feel that he was pressuring me in any way to pick their facility, which was nice. It was very clean. I think what I like about that one is that all their apartments were ground level as opposed to having an upstairs, which is nice for older people. They also had apartments that were inside the main big building, but they also had more duplex-type apartments that were outside. And that was a nice option that not many places have for someone that's a little more independent and can be on their own and isn't quite ready for more of a community, apartment living, dorm style. The facility itself was well cared for. It wasn't like the newest facility, but there was nothing not functioning, or broken, or anything, like it, was still a nice facility."

"My mom went to Brookdale Newberg. It was closer. It was fine in every way. My mom stayed there for 2 months. The residents were busy. She did not take part in much, but they had activities going on. "

"I don't have negative feelings about it. The apartment didn't have an oven or cooktop. They had a library, a workout room for physical activities, and a pool for water aerobics."

"Brookdale Wilsonville was very spacious, clean, and inviting. I actually did eat there a couple of different times, and the food was quite good. The staff was very, very nice and helpful. My mother-in-law was in their independent living. It was really great. It was a very nice place. They had lots of activities for my mother-in-law. They did bus outings. They went shopping, and they did a really good job with that."

"I really liked it, but its $500 more a month than I have the funds for. They have a small studio that is $1350 a month, and it’s all inclusive. They do once a week maid service which I wouldn’t need, and you don’t have to pay utilities; there’s cable. The rooms would be perfect for me, it’s beautiful, and the people were wonderful. The residents that I met were just wonderful. We had lunch, and the food was outstanding; it was just as good as any nice restaurant. I felt like I should leave the lady the tip that waited on me. It’s not a cafeteria; it’s like a restaurant setup. I would recommend to anybody."

"Meadowlark Senior Living seems really nice. The people are very good-spirited. We talked about my wife's needs, and then we talked about the living environment, which is pretty nice. They were very, very receptive and very nice. When we were taking our tour, the people around us were very friendly and very helpful, with a lot of smiles. It was very impressive. The rooms are decent for our needs. My wife and I don't really need big homes. We're going to have our private room. We're going to have a bedroom and a little kitchen. It's a sink with a full-size refrigerator, but because we're gonna be eating three meals a day in the facility, we really don't need to have a kitchen. If you get fed well, you're happy, so apparently they are. The dining area is very nice, quiet, very peaceful, and very elegant, more than what we're used to. We're very simple, and anything they have is really nice. I like the ice cream shop that they have. They have a little theater with 20 chairs where people would gather and watch things, a library, a game room, and arts and crafts. The staff was very friendly and very upbeat. It was very clean, very updated, and very modernized. It seemed to be a circle-ish square pentagon type of structure. You can walk around. You can even exercise in the corridors. It had a nice, comfortable seating outside and walkways."

"My mother is doing very well there at Lancaster Village. It's a very nice place. She's being taken care of really well. They're caring people. Her room is small, but it's carpeted and very clean and looks out onto a nice grassy area outside her large window. She has enough of what she needs, and has her bed and pieces of furniture, her favorite chair, a small kitchen, and a refrigerator and a sink. She eats down in the community room with all the other people. She's has a nice, fairly large bathroom with shower. I sat with her one day with lunch and they had potato oyster soup, which looked really good. They had a burrito, cookies afterwards for dessert and Jell-o or a salad with every meal. It has a homey look to it."

"The Springs at Sunnyview has a salad bar, and they serve a variety of sandwiches. The dining room is open between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. They have studios and apartments with kitchenettes. It is a small community and is accessible to shopping centers. The biggest thing for me is that it's about a couple of blocks away from where my sons live with their mother. "

We are five-star caring home our caregivers, very educated and trained. We do have two RNs on call if needed. We are a 24-hour care home. We are experienced with all care. Very nice and clean home. We have a really nice backyard with the fruit trees where our residents can go and walk on a nice day. We have two covered patios. Its good for any weather to be outside. Our residents always do activities if they want too, summer time we have vegetable garden, some of our residents like to work in the garden.
