"Holladay Park Plaza was my sister-in-law's second choice. It's an urban environment. They have a parking garage, but the parking is quite limited. She really wanted to go there several years ago and then they didn't do that, and now her situation has changed enough that she just wasn't interested in the urban aspect. Someone who likes more urban type living would really enjoy that. The staff was very personable. We didn't interact with as many staff there, just the marketing person mainly. Interestingly, they didn't have very much air-conditioning going, and it was a hot day, so that was not good, and the marketing person's office was hot. She does not get air-conditioning and I would have to say she is doing five plus work putting up with that condition. I don't know why they don't provide air-conditioning in that room, maybe it's just because it's never been needed before, but it was way too hot to be making a good impression. They have great views though, and they're a little bigger than some of the other places. They have pretty much the same amenities that everyone offers. They have a gym. They have quite a lot of resident participation."

"I love Mirabella, but it was very expensive. I'd love to go in this facility. Everything about it was fantastic. Their rooms were very good. Their location is also wonderful. "

"Terwilliger Plaza is one of the places we looked at and was considering it during our search. It's a high rise near downtown Portland. They have a lot of activities scheduled in a monthly calendar which I think is very exciting. They have bus tours to museums, going out to lunch or shopping. It's a very nice place but my wife wants a place with grass and garden around. "

"The Willamette View is very nice, but it's across the river and not very accessible to me. We toured there and we even ate there. We saw the independent living but they also have other levels of care options. The food wasn't quite as good as the other place I toured, but it's still quite good, I had their fish and chips. The appearance of the facility was very nice, and it's on the river, but it's in the middle of nowhere. They have walking paths along the river, they have a beauty salon, and a pool, they have workshops like a woodworking shop, they have a craft room, and they have a place where you can watch movies. It's a little city all in itself and you can go from one building to the other underground, so you don't have to go out in the weather. And it's got very, very nice facilities, it's just that to me, it's in the wrong place."

"I'm getting on the waiting list of the Rose Villa. Most of the buildings are cottages, mostly not apartments. It has a lot of outdoor areas with no steps. It's got a lot of sidewalks, but it's all flat. I like that there is a lot of access to the outdoors. The problem is that it is expensive if you want an apartment instead of a cottage, so the cottages are the cheaper alternatives. They have a swimming pool. They actually have an art studio, and it's in a separate building for artists to do their work. There's a whole separate garden area. They actually let the residents organize their own activities, so it's resident-led rather than some activities director. I'm hearing from local people that all the residents there really like it. The marketing people I met were attentive. Their system is that they give you credit for meals each month, and it's in a separate restaurant-like setting that you have to walk to."

"Mary's Woods was buy-in. It was a very nice facility but we didn't like the concept of buy-in. There were a lot of amenities. What attracted us is that it's right on the Marylhurst campus and if you live in Mary's Woods you're allowed to audit any of the college classes that you went to and that appealed to us a great deal. The dining area is very good. We had lunch there and it was excellent. The staff was really nice, caring, concerned and excellent. "

"We have been here at The Stafford for six years now. We chose this one because it is near where my husband's children live. Also, it has a good setting, as it is close to shopping centers and so forth. We also chose this because the year we moved in, it was new. We have a one-bedroom apartment. They also have two-bedroom apartments. Overall, this is a wonderful place. We like everything about it. The staff is excellent. They have activities of all kinds, like exercise. They have access to the grounds and whatnot. They also have transportation for people who don't drive. We find it easy to have activities of our choice, and we find it easy to meet people here. "

"Cherry Park Plaza is very beautiful and very clean. It's about the same size as the other community, but their bedrooms are actually the nicest. We were looking at a 1-bedroom, and it was like the nicest and the biggest bedroom that we saw. It has a better layout, and it is not as expensive. Activities are fine too."

"I had visited Avamere (Avamere at Hillsboro) -- not most recently -- but like when I was first moving Mom up here. I like that place also. The one thing I didn’t like was that they charge a flat rate for meals whether you went or not, but that was not the assisted living. I was looking at the independent living there. "

"Friendsview is a Christian community and we liked that. We liked the atmosphere of the facility. I've eaten there several times and we liked the food. There wasn’t much that we didn’t like about this facility. They have a variety of different size homes or apartments to select. Their prices were reasonable than some others that we had looked at and they have the ongoing care. "
