I came to Highfield Garden Care Center after a long hospital stay. I had fallen in my apartment and was stuck there for a couple of days. Needless to say, I was pretty out of condition when I got to Highfield Gardens. The cracker-jack physical therapy team helped and pushed me; I am walking out of here today. Although I am happy to be going home and back to work. There are things about Highfield Gardens that I may miss. Most everyone I met was genuinely kind. The nurses were helpful and capable, the aids friendly and attentive, my room was pretty nice and even the food was good. I will certainly try to be more careful, but should I ever have to go back to a care facility, I will go back to Highfield Gardens.

Highfield has the best staff! they take such good care of my mom. i appreciate everything they are doing. the family wants to thank you Charlene the aide and nurse Josephine from 2N. We like the morning and afternoon staff very much. They take great care of my mom 100%. The rooms are clean and renovations are taking place on her floor to give upgraded look. the staff i cant say anymore good things about the love and care they show for my mom. My mom enjoys the card games and bingo with Kelly and Leo. The cooking class with Sherry is also one she waits all week for. The service and prayer is also heartfelt and sincere. The meat meals are nutritious and tasty. The BBQ meat loaf and rice is one meal she can eat all day happily!

I would like to express gratitude to Esther my occupational therapist who not only was able to converse with my fluently with me because of the Russian speaking program but helped me get stronger so I could go home. I also want to recognize Riva the nurse from my unit who was also a big help speaking my language and giving me good care. Therapy room has plenty of machines, clean, spacious and a happy atmosphere conducive to helping me build up strength in upper and lower body.

I am writing this note in regards to the good performance and treatment I received from the social worker Kameca. My daily care and medicaid questions were answered and worked out my Maria, Kameca & Spencer. My nurse Sissy helped me out alot and I am thankful for her kindness and good heart. My rooms are large and accommodating with a large dresser and nightstand. Overall staff are friendly caring and attentive. The wound Care nurse Pat is fantastic and knowledgeable. My favorite activity is the Persian entertainment and video hour while we eat our cultural food and have our music. The facility has Shadi the concierge at nights who speaks Persian and visits all the residents and helps me facetime my grandchildren and family members. They have full translation services and shuttle service all around queens long island area.

I enjoyed and improved myself from the treatment and help from the medical and therapy team. I am always thankful to the highfield gardens center. the decor is modern is inviting. the rooms are spacious and clean with quality lighting for my reading of magazines and novels. the maintenance staff James is always smiling and happy to assist. Emerald from recreation is heaven sent and will help with anything. bingo, giving water, helping work my tv she will do it all. my favorite activities is when Latoya has the squeaky clean group sing with an ice cream social with it. Ball toss and stretch a word are my favorite activities. The Highfield offers free guest trays, wifi, cable, internet, phone service and parking is always available. The baked chicken is consistently good.

such a nice clean facility and warm environment from all the staff. the housekeeper Miguel cleans with such pride its so nice to see! Annie the dietician comes to check in on me and make sure my food preferences are met. Nurse Riva is always on her toes and making sure all meds and treatments are done timely. The facility is newly renovated and you do not get an institutional feeling at all when you are here. The showers are nicer then my own house. The rooms are spacious with ample closet space for my dresses and outfits. Peggy from admissions make you feel so warm and welcomed you can call and she always answers! the activities department engages me. we do painting entertainment and ice cream socials on the front patio which i enjoy especially during the summer time.

I am writing this note to recognize two specific shining stars from this institution. Jillian the front desk receptionist and Spencer the head nurse from the 1N unit. They are both outstanding people and workers. Jillian greets you with a big smile and in a friendly manner. You can see her big smile behind her mask. The smile can be seen from her eyes. Spencer can be juggling so many tasks and responsibilities but still makes you feel like you are his most important task at hand. They both have patience of a saint dealing with all the residents, guests, phone calls and regular matters at hand. The staff were so kind and helpful. Rehab staff Ashley and Humberto were fantastic as well. The rooms are extremely clean. You can smell the cleaning materials which is so important. Emerald and Shauntel from activities were wonderful. They assist with visits, candy carts & arcade room. I toured several facilities and Highfield offered free parking, wifi, phone service and cable. free guest trays on the house which is nice when the grandkids come to visit. They both show professionalism and customer service.

I was nervous when we had to transition my dad to a nursing home. However, Highfield made the transition as smooth as possible. They walked me through all the steps of treatment, care, and costs. They told us about the covid precautions they are taking and the options for my dad to interact with family under these trying times. Most of all they offered to send me pictures and videos anytime I wanted so I can see my dad's progress even if I couldn't physically come in. My dad's happy and that's what is most important.

A year ago my husband went through a 7 hour whipple surgery that kept him in the hospital for almost 2 weeks. Following surgery he was unable to walk and take care of simple personal tasks. We had heard wonderful things about Highfield Gardens and were grateful that he was put into their care for recuperation and rehabilitation. Their staff is kind, considerate and conscientious and were always willing to help him. They helped get him medically on the right track and it followed with a great and encouraging Physical Therapy staff. He still remarks how proud they would be of him and all he has accomplished! The food was tasty and the building unbelievably clean and restful looking with the rooms having a feeling of home. Most of all, he was there as COVID descended upon us and their protocols were ahead of other places and always on target. Thank you to the staff and administration for taking such good care of my husband!

I am a resident on the third floor long term unit. Ronald and Sue do a good job making sure my room is always clean. Sue is friendly and polite and buffs and shines my floor. Diane is my favorite. She does an outstanding job with activities. I enjoy the book reading club and stretch a word and bingo. The grandma's cookies are the best part of the meal in additional to Earl's home made ice cream sundaes. Pat is the best nurse in the facility and goes above and beyond every day. the rooms are clean and large. i have a nice roommate i have become good friends with. I enjoy when Sam comes to give me therapy. Staff are caring and helpful. Olio and Jessica are the best aides they give me haircuts and trims.

I have been a resident here at Highfield for over 10 years. I love the staff. My nurse Pat Dougan the head nurse is heaven sent. She is by far the main reason I am such great condition ten years later. Diane from recreation is a nice person and cares for me with her room visits and daily current events. my favorite meal is the oatmeal its " a lewis special". Houskeeping does a great job cleaning daily my floor is always buffed and shining. My best aide is Marvin he is all business and gets the job done. he cares for me with dignity and respect. my room is spacious, clean and large with my own bathroom. the staff are caring and courteous especially Pat Dougan. Humberto is an excellent therapist. he keeps my arms and legs strong with PT and OT. Janel from PT also works with me and does walking routines. I am thankful that staff offered to help and give me haircuts during the pandemic. I take pride in how my hair looks and they keep me well groomed and looking clean. Latoya activities staff comes around on weekends and offers additional programming. Mr. Jack is the head staff nurse and is pleasant and smart. its been a great 10 years i am looking forward to many more in good health and happiness.

My mother came here for short term rehab after a bad fall. She has a variety of chronic conditions and needed subacute rehab and wound care. I cannot say enough good things about this place. They are MIRACLE WORKERS. We were in another nursing home in the past and it does not compare to this place. The staff are very warm and encouraging. My mother can be very stubborn but they got her to engage. We thought we may need to place her long term but after about 2 months SHE WAS WALKING INDEPENDENTLTY! I would highly recommend this place to anyone!!

Checked out this facility for a loved one. Staff seems excellent, trustworthy and caring. Also, the facility is taking COVID protocol seriously.

If you don't need a lot of help and you can eat and drink by yourself, I guess this place is OK and won't hurt you. The food is terrible but not as bad as the people serving it. The therapists are mediocre at best. They give too many unnecessary tests for their own profit which will have no benefit for the patient. If you just need physical therapy after surgery then Highfield Gardens is OK. But if you are truly ill and need help with eating, drinking, and cannot walk it is not a good place to be. The staff if unresponsive to requests and uncaring about the patients in their care.

My Mom spent about 8 weeks at this facility. We would never put her here again, it was horrible ! I have nothing positve to say about her experience at Highfield, except the PT rehab. people who came to assist with her rehabilitation were very good. Everything else about this facility, Mom would rate poor from the food to the staff. My family toured this facility prior to her stay and nothing could have prepared them more for the disappointment that would follow. Good luck in your search.

My mother was housed here after a major surgery. Possibly the worst place to put a loved one. It was unbeknownst to us at the time and we moved her out after a week of battling with insurance. If we had to leave my mom there she certainly would’ve died. They never changed her wound packing, she developed three bed sores, the staff was nasty and uncaring, often yelling at patients at their most vulnerable moments. My mother couldn’t walk at the time and a staff member told her she was faking and should just get up. They leave patients in the hallway asking for help to use the bathroom for so long that the patients would soil themselves. This place is a disgrace and should be shuttered. DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! Unless you want them dead or hurt.

This place is filthy and run down. The stench of feces is additionally disturbing. The nurses and aids are rude and not helpful. Patients scream and beg for help endlessly with no response. The only positive aspect was the music at 2PM daily.

The staff is poorly trained and lack in supervision. I do not recommend this facility if patient needs medical care.

My mother is a resident at Highfield Gardens Care Center. Over the past several years, they have made a number of improvements. They've made physical improvements and kept it better. Overall, it has been upgraded. The staff is very friendly, and I know them because I have been visiting over the years. The staff seems to be very stable; they don’t have a lot of new people. They provide very good care. They are familiar, and I appreciate that. The rooms are comfortable. Initially, she had her own room, but she now shares a room with another person. It's well-kept and clean. They seemed in good condition. I would say they provide activities that are appropriate. They have television, music from time to time, and people come in and talk on different topics. Overall, I think it is a pretty good situation for my mother.

I was very impressed with the rehab department. My mom came in on a feeding tube and was unable to swallow. The speech therapist did a great job of educating us about swallowing disorders and worked with my mom on all appropriate swallow exercises. My mom slowly improved and was able to come off the feeding tube. The physical therapists and occupational therapists were very patient and helped my mom to become as mobile as possible. I highly recommend the rehab department! The nurses are very caring, I think they are overworked and could use more staff.

Do NOT send a loved one here if they are recovering from a brain stem stroke. I wouldn't send a loved one here after any type of stroke. Speech services are TERRIBLE!!! My parent was never taught the "K" type exercises and others which are essential to regaining the ability to swallow. As for the physical therapy department, I was frequently told that my parent wasn't cooperative because of not following directions. This was not my first experience with rehab for a stroke patient. The physical therapy department staff should have recognized that a stroke is a brain and that my parent wasn't being uncooperative but was incapable of following their directions. There are some very, caring nursing staff but that isn't enough to compensate for the inability to properly rehabilitate their residents.

Highfield Gardens is a terrible place. It was filthy, it was dirty. That was the worst place my husband was at. The staff was not helpful. It’s depressing. They put him in a room where above him, the radio would blast all day long and they wouldn’t do anything about it. He had gotten to a stage where he didn’t eat that much. They did have activities but he couldn’t really take part. They’d have to revamp the whole thing.
