I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is doing rehab at Hillcrest Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. It was the only one that the caseworkers could get him in. We did have an experience with them before, and he's doing very well there. They're kind and caring, and he's progressing well. I don't have any problems with them. We don't see everything that goes on, but all of our dealings with them have been good. He has not had complaints. They have a daily schedule of activities that they post, and they seem to be doing enough of them. The facilities are new, clean, and kept up. The rehab areas are nice. There is a salon, a chapel, and separate rooms for rehab, which he's been pleased with.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am/was a resident of Hillcrest Commons. In all honesty, there are pros& cons, but the cons far outweigh the pros. The pros are some of the staff go far beyond their job discretion for the comfort & needs of the residents. Others not so much, it seems the bad far outweighs the good for example I have been left in wet dirty briefs for as long as twenty-eight hours without being changed. The call light goes sometimes two hours or longer, without being answered. I don't have much interaction with staff, the administration doesn't allow the staff to talk to the residents, During the COVID-19 outbreak, I was never told I tested positive and actually had to ask before I knew. Most of the residents enjoy the Activities Director singing and playing the guitar or piano but that isn't done anymore. WIth the COVID -19 Virus Hillcrest Commons has become a prison without bars, the residents aren't allowed out and visitors aren't allowed in. There was a visiting period of 10 minutes but that has been taken away also. Hillcrest Commons advertises a wide variety of food choices when in truth the residents are offered rice instant potatoes or pasta, and overcooked chicken Hamburg or water-soaked fish, pasta & sauce, and Macaroni & Cheese. Once a month they may offer vegetable lasagna or Rigatoni. These are just a few of the reasons I would not recommend Hillcrest. My suggestion would be clean out the cobwebs & the dirt that goes on with resident care and focus on the happiness of the residents.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I find it shocking is that a facility in the condition that this one is in is allowed to be open. If this were a restaurant or a public venue I suspect that the health department would have closed it due to uncleanliness. There are holes in the walls black mold growing in this facility and just downright fils I have lived here since early December 2019 and have seen the more than I care to describe. There are some very good dedicated employees here. Here are some not-so-good employees here. It has been my experience that upper management here lacks the ability should really properly manage this facility and manage employees so that the place is run effectively. Since the covid-19 virus has become a major health concern I have seen very sporadic efforts 2 adhere to proper cleaning and disinfecting of areas of high contact in this facility which before was non-existent. Now at least they're trying a little bit but as I said before it was absolutely non-existent and some surfaces in the rooms are still not cleaned and disinfected like light switches door handles bathroom door handles things that get touched on a daily basis but for whatever reason administration does not seem to feel that these are of importance. All I can say to anybody who is looking for a health facility for either themselves or a loved one look around do your homework and do not just take the tour that they want to show you gangster tour ask specific questions. Research on various other websites is another great idea as I've seen people give high scores for this place and the apposite is quite obviously true. Exercise and healthy/ quality nutrition are nothing but a fantasy here certainly not a reality. I read another review that the person said that he wouldn't put his dog here and I must concur, the dog kennel probably doesn't have sewer gases backing up into the building nor Black Mold. There's got to be better out there for$7,421.00 per month. What amazes me is that this place is owned by Berkshire Health Systems the very same folks that own BMC, Hillcrest Hospital, and 19 other nursing homes here in Mass. Bottom line is do your homework.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister was a patient in Hillcrest for 13 years and the staff on Unit 3 became family to her. They were very kind and provided excellent care. Some of the staff became friends with my mother and I and always made it a point to let us know how Bev was doing. Shana, Holly and a housekeeping person whose name I forgot stand out. The best was Sarah, on the house keeping staff. She was a wonderful support person and advocate for Beverly during a time after she had a issue with choking. All the staff were wonderful to me as Bev became weaker and eventually passed away.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Unfortunately I have had experiences with this facility for two different family members 7 years apart. The second patient was not my decision, or she NEVER would have been placed there. The first was my mother, and while I thought I was doing the best I could for her, the entire experience was nothing short of a nightmare. I couldn't get her out of there fast enough. While my sisters and I brought the lousy care to the attention of those in charge (management) after she was released, and I received a phone call apologizing to my family and being assured things would be addressed, I found the exact same problems with my cousin 7 years later. There were a few caregivers that were wonderful, but they were few and far between. Place your loved one somewhere (ANYWHERE!) else.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I've no complaints about the quality of care my recently deceased father received. It is that Final Phone Call to which I strongly object. When my father passed away, a Hillcrest Commons staff member did not contact me or any other immediate family member. Instead (s)he notified the person who held the titles of power of attorney and health care proxy. Both of these functions ceased to exist the instant my father passed away. It was hideous and insulting to have to receive the sad news from a third party. Hillcrest Commons: What were you thinking?

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Not having much experience dealing with assisted living homes, I did not know what to expect when my great-grandmother told me she was going to be heading to one. I had heard horror stories about how the patients were treated in many of them; abuse, neglect, theft, so on and so forth so I went in with a negative outlook on my great-grandmother's new living arrangement. Needless to say I was very wrong! The outside of the building was beautiful; healthy lawn and beautiful flowers/landscaping. The inside seemed cozy almost like a home setting. The staff were hard working, dedicated, professional, and very well trained. I know that in many jobs, people just go in for a paycheck. However these folks truly were passionate and cared for the people in their facility. I was fairly young when she passed away, about 12 or so. One of the ladies that worked there whose name escapes me at the moment sat with me after she passed away. She didn't even have to do this, but working with patients for so long you become close to them and their families so it's almost as if they've lost family as well. The facility itself was always clean and tidy. The rooms my great-grandmother were in were always spotless and she was treated with dignity, respect, and professional courtesy. In the 2 or so years she was there, we never had issues with the staff or any sort of neglect. I would suggest Willow Wood to anyone who is look into a nursing home facility for family members or themselves. They were a top notch group that put your mind at ease.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

When we moved my grandmother to this facility I was fairly excited because I knew she would have someone to look over her. Until a couple of months had passed while she was in there and she was complaining about how some of the other patients were quite hostile. Another moment that upset me was while I was visiting her she wasn't wearing clothes that belonged to her and another patient was wearing a sweater that we had just got her. I notified the staff and they seemed to be sorry about the situation but I'm not sure how fast they resolved it.

I visited this facility

I visited this nursing facility with a friend whose grandmother was a patient. He visits her once every week. My thoughts about nursing facilities before I visited were that they are very gloomy and depressing places. However, I was completely wrong about this facility. The staff members are incredibly nice and hard working. They truly put their patients before themselves. The facility was very tidy and very well organized. My friend's grandmother looked very happy to be at a place like this since she had made quite a few friends. Her daily routine included three meals, and physical therapy to keep here active, of course with the aid of staff. They would also take classes which included art, and sewing. Overall, I was pleased that this facility had changed my point of view of nursing homes. I would gladly send one of my own family members knowing they were in a happy, safe, and a comforting place.

I visited this facility

My feelings on Hillcrest Commons assisted living facilty are somewhat mixed. I visited there and observed what went on every day for a few months as part of a requirement for school. The facility is generally very nice and well taken care of in my experience, and definitely looks like a place I would choose if I needed assisted living services. The staff seemed to do their jobs well and were very pleasant to be around. I didn't see any of the rudeness toward guests and patients that I've seen at other facilities. My only complaint is the way the lower staff seemed to be treated by higher-up ones. It does not seem to be a very pleasant place to work for the nurses and CNAs, and especially the kitchen staff. I witnessed multiple incidents of these people being walked all over and verbally abused by their supervisors for seemingly no reason at all, while they were doing their jobs correctly. All in all, Hillcrest Commons does not seem like a nice place to work, but definitely seems to be a nice place to stay if you need the services they provide.
