"We toured Mount Carmel Care Center and we were very impressed by it. It was small, it was very clean, the staffs were very engaging, and the director was very informative and answered all of our questions to our satisfaction. And we liked that they have their prayer meetings. It was just very, very nice. The people looked happy, they had a beautiful place outside where you could go. They said I could bring my dog if she wanted to visit with my mother. It just had a very nice atmosphere there. I saw the employees working with the residents, and they were very kind, very supportive, and seemed to know what they were doing. Everybody seemed to know what they were doing. I also got some referrals from people in the community who had family members there, and they said the same thing. They have double rooms, and the single rooms were also nice, but the cleanliness, organization, and everything were very good."

"My dad is currently in a nursing home now at Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The staff is extremely dedicated, patient, and caring. They've worked very well with me and my family to make sure my dad was comfortable. The outside is dated, but the inside has been remodeled within the last few years. It's clean, friendly, and it's small. It's based on three different wings, so he primarily just stays on one wing, which is good for him since he's a memory patient. I know that they have a memory wing that doesn't have great reviews, but he's on the rehab wing that has excellent reviews. They do different arts and crafts. They have music come in, church services, and a coffee cart daily. They do like shopping experiences and stuff, but he's not able to go. Their food is very good. It is a nursing home, so it's very expensive. But on his wing, I feel like he's been very well taken care of."

"I have been in Springside Rehab & Nursing Center for 3 weeks now. I think it's very nice. They have mostly caring and very informative people. I have a nice little room all by myself, and I've only been eating here. I haven't gone out to eat but they do have a dining area and the food is pretty good and nutritious. The cleaning people are in and out of here a lot to keep the place pretty clean. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. When you see somebody, they ask you if you need anything or if they could get anything for you. They are very professional."

"My dad stayed at Berkshire Place for a couple of months. They didn't listen when there were complaints. They did not do anything. They would leave my dad, and when he pressed the button, they never came. They wouldn't let him walk, yet they wouldn't come in to help him go to the restroom. The food was horrible. My dad lost 23 pounds because it was so bad. He wouldn't eat it. They put sauce on everything, and he was not a fan of that. I had to call and complain all the time. The place looked great. It looked beautiful. However, I would never send him there again, ever. The inside and outside of the building looked beautiful. They had activities. The activities director was good. She had a whole calendar full of activities, but my dad didn't want to participate. They need to improve their food. They were understaffed. They needed better communication amongst themselves. One nurse would tell my dad he couldn't go to the bathroom alone, and another nurse would tell him he could."

"We chose Ghent Assisted Living for my friend because it was closest to where she lived so her friends could visit. We've also known about this assisted living for many years and it looked like a decent place so that's why we said she would go there. She moved in last month and she's in assisted living. She seems to be doing well and I think her medical care has improved since she went there. All of her doctors are saying that she's doing better. She's not completely happy, of course, because she wants to be home but she understands that's not possible right now. For the most part, they're taking good care of her. The staff seems to be nice, my friend says they are very nice to her. I've had dealings with them too because I go and visit sometimes and they all seem to be helpful. I don't have any complaints there. She says that the meals are good although sometimes they're not that great. They have activities but she doesn't participate in them, unfortunately. They have an activity department and they do things but I don't think she's interested in that. The place could do some updating as it's a little old-looking. It's hard to tell because it's winter but they seem to have some patios and stuff outside. Of course, nobody can go out there right now."

"My feelings on Hillcrest Commons assisted living facilty are somewhat mixed. I visited there and observed what went on every day for a few months as part of a requirement for school. The facility is generally very nice and well taken care of in my experience, and definitely looks like a place I would choose if I needed assisted living services. The staff seemed to do their jobs well and were very pleasant to be around. I didn't see any of the rudeness toward guests and patients that I've seen at other facilities. My only complaint is the way the lower staff seemed to be treated by higher-up ones. It does not seem to be a very pleasant place to work for the nurses and CNAs, and especially the kitchen staff. I witnessed multiple incidents of these people being walked all over and verbally abused by their supervisors for seemingly no reason at all, while they were doing their jobs correctly. All in all, Hillcrest Commons does not seem like a nice place to work, but definitely seems to be a nice place to stay if you need the services they provide. "

"My mom-in-law needs to be in a nursing home because she has diabetes and she cannot regulate her medications at home. She is at Mt. Greylock Extended Care. The staff have been very nice to her, but it’s just very depressing compared to an assisted living area, to walk down the hall to see these people hanging out in wheelchairs. "

"I went to The FASNY Firemen's Home. It's more of a skilled nursing facility and my aunt is not ready for that yet and that's a lot more expensive. It was originally started for retired firemen. It was a very good experience. The problem with that place is there's a waiting list. It's like 9-12 months to get in. I like the location, the care, it's small, and the staff. I didn't check out the food, but I've known other people that have sent their loved ones there and they loved it as well. The staff was very friendly and very informative. The building was very nice. It's been remodeled, so it's nice and clean. The outdoor was nice. It's in a very nice setting and The Firemen's Museum is attached to it, so a lot of people visit there. They're very accommodating."

"The rooms are very clean in the four years that my father lived there. The food was prepared with a great deal of thought for each individual resident. My father could not chew easily for the last two years of his life even though they tried with outside professional dental help. But, they always made sure he had variety and nutritious meals they were built around what he could eat. I can't not stress enough that this modern Nursing Home, set in the most beautiful New York country area, is one of the best I've ever seen. None of them have perfection but, they will work on problem areas and they really care!"

"Craneville Place in Dalton is a nice nursing home with great caregivers. I had went to visit a grandmother of my best friend a month or two ago and she seemed very happy. The facility was clean and most of the residents had smiles on their faces and happy to see visitors. My friends grandma likes it there and says she is well taken care of which is great! It makes it a little easier sending them to a nursing home when they like it especially because you dont know how they are treated once you leave. They residents are able to hang out in their rooms and watch tv or go to the common room, where we spent most of our time during the visit. The staff even offered us a snack while we were there and came over to chat with us. It was very homey and comforting. I would choose this nursing home for a family member of mine if the time comes and they need somewhere to go. I think it all really depends on the staffing taking care of the residents. "
